"Rise of the Planet of the Apes." On paper, it's hard not to feel skeptical about another "Apes" movie, particularly after Tim Burton's poorly received 2001 effort. But in motion — well, that's another story altogether, isn't it?
The first official "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" trailer landed online earlier today and the response has been huge, for better or for worse. Many fans have had their misgivings towards the franchise reboot, but a lot of those same naysayers saw their opinions flipped upside down with this morning's trailer release.

Honestly, I didn't have much of an opinion on the "Apes" overhaul until just this past week. I don't have as strong an attachment to the property as some fans do, I certainly wasn't wild about Burton and Mark Wahlberg's flick, and the constant release and title changes — especially this last one — left me feeling that this wasn't a movie to get overly excited about, particularly given how crowded the summer blockbuster season already is.
The trailer changed all of that. Forget James Franco, Tom Felton, Brian Cox and the vast array of other wonderful actors on display in this trailer. They're great and I'm excited to see what they're bringing to the table and all that good stuff, but WETA Workshop is the real star of the show. The VFX on display in the "Apes" trailer are top notch. True, we only get one really good look at Andy Serkis' Caesar, but it was enough to sell me. "Apes" still isn't my most anticipated movie of the summer, but the trailer certainly sharpened my enthusiasm significantly.
