Taylor Lautner's new movie is called "Abduction," but if you've ever seen the 19-year-old "Twilight" star without his shirt off, you know they probably just could have called it "Ab-duction." (See what we did there?)
If you're a fan of Taylor and his famous physique, then you'll most certainly want to tune in for "MTV First: Taylor Lautner," a sit-down interview on Wednesday, April 13, with the actor in which he'll answer fan questions and premiere the first trailer for his latest, "Abduction."
We'll be counting down to the big event by looking back at our top five all-time favorite MTV moments with Taylor. Yesterday we reminisced about his run-in with Les Grossman in our #5 moment and today we'll reflect on the "New Moon" red carpet interview in which Taylor compared his famous abs to those of his equally-adored co-star Robert Pattinson.
Here's to hoping his statements, even almost two years later, don't spark a Team Jacob and Team Edward-fueled riot. Those folks take their ab adoration seriously.
In 2009, when MTV News asked Taylor how fans might react when they saw him sans shirt in "New Moon," the oh-so-modest star thought "they might start crying" because he looks "bad." Taylor, they cried all right, but for very different reasons.
Taylor even went so far as to say that his on-screen rival Robert Pattinson rivaled him in the abdominal department. "Rob, he's getting some muscle," Taylor admitted, "Some good competition." In fact, Taylor didn't even feel the need to give any tips on how to get buff -- or it could have been one very smart sabotage plan! "He definitely doesn't need any pointers, at all," he said of his co-star.
But surprisingly enough, it wasn't all talk of six packs and crying girls at the "New Moon" premiere. At this point the "Twilight" gang had been a "month in" to filming "Eclipse," and it seems even early on, the cast was aware of what the third installment, and its director David Slade, was bringing to the table.
"It's been good [working with Slade]", Lautner said at the time, adding, "He's a lot different. I think he's going to add a cool taste to the movie. Might be a little darker."
So, not only was Taylor spot-on about the observation that Slade would give the series a new edge, but that the action and fight scenes would be getting a boost, too. As Lautner explained to MTV: "I feel like the action level is stepping up each and every movie. 'New Moon' has a lot more than 'Twilight' and I feel like 'Eclipse' is even bumping it up another level."
