Another week, another "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides" trailer washes ashore. While we won't object to seeing more of Johnny Depp and crew hitting the high seas in search of the Fountain of Youth, it's certainly making the wait until the film's May 20 release date that much harder.
From the teaser trailer which premiered during this year's Super Bowl to Disney's video pod, "Pirates" fans have had a chance to see who -- and what -- Captain Jack Sparrow is facing in the fourth installment (mermaids, an ex, and the dreaded Blackbeard, among other things). And over the weekend, a new one-minute "Pirates" TV spot hit the web that we watched over and over again to pick out the key blink-and-you'll-miss-it moments worth paying attention to. Mermaids: The Real Caribbean Queens
If Captain Jack, Barbossa, or Blackbeard thought they'd just be able to stroll into the Fountain of Youth as is, they had another thing coming. As Angelica (newbie Penelope Cruz) explains, a mermaid (or mermaids, as there are scads of them in one scene) is the key to getting into the wondrous destination. Of course, things look like they start to take a turn for the worse when Blackbeard, who boasts "I am a bad man," kidnaps Jack's mermaid and attempts to kill her (from the looks of the clip, she's in a glass tank, with a diminishing water supply.) Don't worry merlady, Captain Jack tends to find a way, albeit a rather unorthodox one, of getting things done.
A Battle Rages
With Barbossa fighting alongside the enemy and Blackbeard (whom Jack describes as "the pirate all pirates fear") fighting dirty (see above), there's quite the conflict going on between our hero and the baddies in the race to the Fountain of Youth. A "fight to the bitter end" as Captain Jack declares in the clip, while Barbossa worries that "we've fallen behind" in another moment. From sword fights to explosions galore, it looks like "On Stranger Tides" will up the ante when it comes to battle sequences.
It's Getting All Sexy Up In Here
Disney, Schmisney. If this latest clip reveals anything, it's that there's going to be some serious sexiness going on in the midst of all that swashbuckling. From the flirtatious banter between former flames Jack and Angelica ("Jack, have you ever seen, with your own eyes, the Fountain of Youth?" she coos to him at the beginning of the trailer) to mermaid-on-human smooches (check it out at the 56-second mark) to a shirtless Sam Clafin, we're starting to think there's going to be action, in more ways than one, in "On Stranger Tides."
