Zack Snyder's long-awaited cinematic mind-trip "Sucker Punch" finally hits theaters this Friday. At the center of the story are five women, all of them inmates at the fictional Lennox House for the Mentally Insane. They're also exotic dancers, and ass-kicking warriors as well. The film's most intense action unfolds in a sort of fantasy reality. The less said about it here, the better; what you need to know is that each of the five Lennox inmates get to show off their particular talents during these sequences.
To get you in the mood for Friday's release, we're profiling each one right here on MTV Movies Blog all week. We've already highlighted Amber (Jamie Chung) and Rocket (Jena Malone), and today we're showcasing Rocket's big sister, Sweet Pea, played by Abbie Cornish.
Cornish is a fairly well-established actress in her home country of Australia, but she's still something of a newcomer here with U.S. audiences. Some of you may remember her 2009 starring role in "Bright Star," as poet John Keats' lover Fanny Brawne. Cornish has also worked with Snyder before, though you've admittedly never seen her in person in one of his movies until now. She lent her voice to last year's "Legend of the Guardians: Owls of Ga'Hoole," as the vain owl Otulissa.
General ass-kickery and leadership. While Emily Browning's Baby Doll is the girl with the plan, Sweet Pea is older and wiser than her fellow inmates -- or at least, that's how she puts herself out there -- and she falls naturally into a leader role. She also knows her way around weaponry of various shapes and sizes, which she won't hesitate to use in decimating anyone who stands in her way.
Sweet Pea is stubborn and, more than that, she has grown comfortable with her life at Lennox House. She is very protective of her sister Rocket, almost to a fault, and she would much rather stick to her comfortable captivity than take a risk on the outside world with Baby Doll's plan. Sweet Pea is also quite strong and perhaps the most sane of the bunch, two assets which will hopefully allow her to get past her shortcoming.
Sweet Pea shines brightly in the trenches of the movie's alternate World War I setting. She spins, she kicks, she shoots, she throws, all in the name of bringing down those creepy clockwork German soldiers.
