The most pressing big-ticket item on Ridley Scott's to-do list is "Prometheus," the science fiction kinda-sorta prequel to "Alien" he's set to start directing in just a few weeks. But that's far from the only project he's got in the pipeline.
Scott's name is still attached to a variety of developing flicks, including "Monopoly," based on the mega popular Hasbro board game of the same name. The filmmaker's investment in that particular property remained firmly intact as recently as a year ago, and according to Hasbro CEO Brian Goldner, he's still holding strong.
"'Monoploy' is still happening, and we're developing a great story," Goldner told MTV News during a recent interview. "It's a very fun take. Ridley is still the perfect creative steward, because he creates these great, fictionalized worlds. It's going to be a very fun story to tell."
Last year, Goldner told us that Scott was aiming for a 2012 or 2013 production start. He didn't provide a time table during our latest chat, but Goldner insisted that there's no pressure to get a "Monopoly" movie in development to tie in with the world's current financial climate — according to the Hasbro exec, "Monopoly" is "more of a timeless story."
"It's a very human and personal story. It's not really 'Wall Street,' not at all," he explained. "It's a fictionalized story of a family, and there's a lot of intrigue in the story. Suffice it to say, it's a story about a family with a history, and we're projecting that into current times. But it's not 'Wall Street.' It's more about property ownership and of the play-pattern of the game."
