We've known for a while now that Warner Bros. is turning the UK-based Leavesden Studios into a museum dedicated to "Harry Potter," but knowing it's an idea and finding out its an actuality are two entirely different things.
Our friends over at MuggleNet have posted a press release for the Warner Bros. Studio Tour London - The Making of Harry Potter, as well as the first official poster for the museum. The long suspected release date of spring 2012 has been confirmed as well, so it's time to start planning next year's vacation to the United Kingdom!
If you need a quick refresher on the planned museum, The Making of Harry Potter will allow fans to visit the studio where all eight "Potter" movies were filmed, with full access to authentic sets, two of which were announced today.
The Great Hall set was originally built in 2000 and is one of the most iconic sets in the "Potter" repertoire. According to the press release, the set fans will visit is 40 feet wide and 120 feet long, and will include the solid stone floor and tables and benches used in the film. Hopefully they'll find a way to incorporate the magicked ceiling by the time the museum opens.
The second set is one that has already been recreated within the past year: Dumbledore's office. We imagine that the one at Leavesden will be similar to the version at The Wizarding World of Harry Potter in Orlando, but it'll be nice to not be restrained by a queue and actually have room to explore.
More sets will be revealed as the official opening date gets closer, but what's nice about this museum is that, unlike Wizarding World, we aren't restrained to the Hogwarts sets -- with any luck, we could have visits to 4 Privet Drive, the Shrieking Shack, the Ministry of Magic and the Burrow in our future. The possibilities are endless!
