Logan's RunWe're not always wild about the idea of remaking classic pictures, but there are a few exceptions. We're excited about "The Thing," for example, if only because it promises to elaborate on the story that precedes the John Carpenter horror flick -- which itself was a remake, so there!

Another remake we're psyched for is "Logan's Run." Not to take anything away from the 1976 Michael York-starring adaptation, but this is a compelling story with a rich science fiction world that could absolutely blow the roof off given today's filmmaking capabilities. But development on the remake has been difficult, to say the least. Numerous attempts have been made to bring "Logan's Run" back to theaters, with directors like Bryan Singer and, most recently, Carl Rinsch attached to the project at various points.

Right now, the film is without a director. But that doesn't mean it isn't still coming together. Speaking with MTV News, superstar producer Joel Silver was quite confident that "Logan's Run" still has a good chance of becoming a reality "soon."

Christian BaleFew actors are as physically dedicated to their craft as Christian Bale. I mean, you've seen the man, haven't you? He's gone from sickly thin in "The Machinist" to total beefcake in Chris Nolan's "Batman" movies, and there and back again numerous times.

With that kind of weight fluctuation, you would think Bale might be tired of those physical demands. Not necessarily, it seems, certainly not enough to get Bale away from some of his past collaborators. Like Brad Anderson, for instance; Bale worked with the filmmaker previously on "The Machinist," which saw the Oscar-nominated star's weight plummet to an astonishing 120 pounds. Doubtful that he's going to get that low again, but he is nonetheless reuniting with Anderson on a new project that could take its toll: a little film called "Concrete Island."

We Got This Covered and Shock Till You Drop both spoke with the director about his plans for "Concrete Island," based on the J.G. Ballard novel that's described as "Robinson Crusoe" in an urban landscape.

Little Miss SunshineFor those of you out there hoping that the next film "Little Miss Sunshine" directors Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris will make after their 2006 indie darling will be its sequel, continue holding your breath. But they're bringing us the next best thing.

The Los Angeles Times reports that Dayton and Faris are reteaming with "Little Miss Sunshine" star Paul Dano to headline their new dramedy, and producers Albert Berger and Ron Yerxa are back for more as well. The film, "He Loves Me," is written by and will costar Dano's real-life girlfriend, Zoe Kazan, and is described as "Adaptation" meets "Weird Science."

Berger told the Times that "the plot couldn't be more different than 'Little Miss Sunshine,' but in terms of a movie with comedy, with heart and with strong characters, I think it's very similar."

This is far from the first time directors have reteamed with some of their favorite actors for great results -- click past the jump for some other notable examples -- and we hope that "He Loves Me" can rank up there with them.

When it comes to "Big Mommas: Like Father, Like Son," some things are changing, and some things are staying the same. Funny dudes dressing up as massively overweight and strangely eccentric women? Check. But Martin Lawrence isn't the only cross-dressing undercover cop this time around: comedian Brandon T. Jackson has joined the cast as Trent Pierce, the stepson of Lawrence's Malcolm Turner, replacing outgoing actor Jascha Washington in the role.

Jackson isn't just acting in the movie, too; he's rapping and dancing as well, lending his talents to the music video for "Ima Do It Big," featuring T. Pain and One Chance. Check out the video right here on Movies Blog!

Kevin Smith knows what it's like to come under fire, as he so eloquently explained during our "First Take: Live With Kevin Smith" interview earlier in the week: once every mainstream media outlet has called you "fat" in their headlines, there are very few insults remaining that can really make a dent on the psyche.

Which is probably why Smith remains undeterred by the legion of film fans and commentators who have taken him to task over his decision to distribute "Red State" all on his own. After indicating on Twitter that he'd be awarding distribution rights for his new horror flick in a live auction following the Sundance premiere of "Red State," Smith abruptly made the solitary bid on the film and awarded it to himself. Some bloggers and fans felt cheated by Smith's actions. But Smith doesn't see it that way.

"What is so wrong with being entertaining in your presentation? What gives people the right to be like, 'He's a liar!' Are you kidding me?" Smith told MTV News when the topic of the "Red State" auction came up. "People instead look for something to be mad about. They don't want to tell the story. No, the story they want to tell instead is like, 'He said he was gonna sell it and he didn't! What a jerk he is!'"

Famke JanssenIt was only last month that Hansel landed his Gretel, and now Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton have a witch to hunt as well.

Deadline is reporting that "X-Men's" Famke Janssen has come onboard as the leader of the witches in the film "Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters." The film follows the titular Hansel and Gretel 15 years after they narrowly escaped sugary death at the hands of a witch in a gingerbread house, and now they're lean, mean, witch-killing machines. Their mission: to hunt down the witches that nearly killed them.

Janssen is perfectly suited for the role, and that's largely because she's mastered the art of the beautiful but deadly villainess. We run down our favorite times she's turned to the dark side after the jump.

Leonardo DiCaprioWe're getting excited for "J. Edgar." Really excited. Not only does the controversial FBI director have one of the most intriguing stories to tell of any recent historical figure, but just look at the talent lined up for this film: Clint Eastwood directing, Leonardo DiCaprio in the title role, actors like Armie Hammer and Naomi Watts among the supporting cast… without having seen a single shred of footage or set photography, we're already hooked.

But we're not without physical evidence for long. We've got a first look at DiCaprio in action as J. Edgar Hoover himself thanks to photographer Eric Ford (On Location News). Check out the full photo past the jump!

Brendan GleesonProgress on "Safe House" evokes mixed emotions. On the one hand, the idea of Ryan Reynolds and Denzel Washington together in a CIA thriller is very exciting. On the other, it's just one more movie standing between Reynolds and "Deadpool," and we're starting to wonder whether or not he'll ever have the chance to do the Merc with the Mouth justice.

But while "Deadpool" remains in development limbo, the show must go on. And it's certainly going, as "Safe House" has roped in a quartet of fantastic actors for the forthcoming action flick.

The Wrap reports that "Harry Potter" actor Brendan Gleeson, "Black Hawk Down" star Sam Shepard, "Clash of the Titans'" Liam Cunningham and the T-1000 himself, Robert Patrick, are all on board for "Safe House," the Universal thriller from director Daniel Espinosa and writer David Guggenheim.

Rosamund PikePerseus is getting ready to lift his sword and shield for another round of Titan-smashing mayhem, as the stars are most assuredly aligning for the "Clash of the Titans" sequel.

Rumored to be called "Wrath of the Titans," the sequel has already recruited "Carlos" actor Edgar Ramirez for warmongering god Ares, "Sorcerer's Apprentice" baddie Toby Kebbell for King Agenor and Bill Nighy for technological deity Hephaestus.

Now, add another piece to the puzzle: Rosamund Pike, best known as the Bond girl in "Die Another Day" plus a slew of indie movies including "Barney's Version," has been cast in the pivotal role of Andromeda for "Wrath of the Titans." She's taking over the role from Alexa Davalos, who played Andromeda in the 2010 action flick but couldn't line her schedule up for the Jonathan Liebesman-directed sequel.

Pride and Prejudice and ZombiesIt was a very sad day indeed when director Mike White said he was backing out of the intended adaptation of "Pride and Prejudice and Zombies," especially since that meant it left the horror comedy spoof without an Elizabeth Bennett, Mr. Darcy or a man behind the camera.

But all that might be resolved soon, as Vulture is reporting that "Lars and the Real Girl" director Craig Gillespie is headed to the helm. Deadline adds to the report, saying it's not a done deal yet, but the "Fright Night" filmmaker is supposedly the front runner for the job.

After David O. Russell passed on the film in favor of adapting "Uncharted: Drake's Fortune," the first three directors shortlisted for the film back in November -- White, Neil Marshall and Jeffery Blitz -- all seemed a bit out of place on the adaptation of Seth Grahame-Smith's parody novel. At least White dropping out of "Pride and Prejudice and Zombies" had the silver lining of the well-suited Gillespie possibly coming on board to balance it off.
