Once he's finished with "Red State" and "Hit Somebody," Kevin Smith intends to retire as a film director. But that doesn't mean his days as a storyteller are over. Having already oscillated between the film and comic book mediums at multiple points throughout his career, Smith says there's another place where his stories could exist: television.

"Someone asked me on Twitter about 'Clerks 3,' and I said I'd rather live 'Clerks 3' than make 'Clerks 3.' But when somebody asked me, 'What if you do have a Dante and Randal story to tell in your 40s and 50s?' I'll go to TV!" Smith told MTV News during our interview with him earlier this week. "At the end of the day, when I started in film, you couldn't do the things we were doing and saying [on television]. Now, you can."

Houdini and DoyleThe greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist. That's nothing compared to the works of expert magician Harry Houdini, however, and it's certainly nothing that Sherlock Holmes couldn't puzzle out on his own.

We'll get the chance to see Houdini and Holmes creator Arthur Conan Doyle put their heads together in "Voices From the Dead," an original screenplay written by "Changeling" and "Thor" writer J. Michael Straczynski.

Heat Vision reports that DreamWorks has purchased the script, which tells a fictional account of Houdini and Doyle investigating a set of murders in 1920s New York.

Goran VisnjicIs it cool to get excited about David Fincher's "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" adaptation yet? I know many fans are still up in arms over the very existence of an American take on the material when the Swedish films were so expertly put together, but really, look at the talent attached to Fincher's latest; some of these names by themselves, let alone combined together, should put those criticisms to bed.

Case in point: with a cast that already features Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara in the pivotal roles of crusading journalist Mikhail Blomkvist and antisocial computer hacker Lisbeth Salander, another crucial character has secured a compelling actor. Goran Visnjic is Fincher's man for Dragan Armansky, a critical supporting player in the Millennium trilogy. Visnjic is signed for all three films.

HighlanderSome time has passed since the last "Highlander" remake update. Over a year, in fact – last we'd heard, "Fast Five" director Justin Lin was attached to direct with Neal Moritz producing for Summit Entertainment. "Iron Man" screenwriters Art Marcum and Matt Holloway were working on the script.

But as the old "Highlander" adage goes, there can be only one… and as of right now, it's neither Marcum nor Holloway who will be writing the screenplay.

Instead of sticking with the "Iron Man" duo, the "Highlander" screenwriting gig is staying in the Summit family. Heat Vision reports that "Twilight" writer Melissa Rosenberg is in negotiations for the remake, with Moritz and Lin both still attached to the project and Peter Davis also on board as a producer.

Iron ManPotentially big news on the superhero front today, guys. Although we're still reeling from the news that Jon Favreau won't be returning to direct "Iron Man 3" for Marvel Studios, the comic book franchise may be in very good hands in the form of Shane Black.

Heat Vision reports that Black is one of several writers and directors who has met with Marvel about possibly taking Ol' Shellhead back to the big screen for a third solo outing. Nothing is official yet, but he is "being considered," despite the fact that others are also in contention.

Now, this is very good news. If you don't agree, you're probably not familiar with Black. After the jump, we've got a primer on his career highlights, and you'll see for yourself why Black is the right man for the "Iron Man" gig.

It's sad but true, folks: Kevin Smith is leaving the game once he's finished with "Hit Somebody."

At the very least, the hockey film will be Smith's last turn as a director, according to the filmmaker himself. Smith reaffirmed his decision to stop directing movies after "Hit Somebody" during his appearance on MTV News earlier this week, and his reasoning is certainly solid: according to Smith, this is going to be the movie that sums up his entire career.

"This is going to sum it all up, everything I've done," he explained. "I'll try and put everyone who's worked with us over the years in the flick."

So, just who is everyone? To quote Gary Oldmaneveryone!

What we've seen so far of Russell Brand's upcoming flick "Arthur" is intriguing to say the least. Batman and Robin onscreen costumes, nipples included? Check. Helen Mirren as his newly female sidekick? Check. Planning on winning his first Academy Award just by copying Dudley Moore's Oscar winning performance from two decades ago? Oh, that's a check.

"I am hoping that I too will get an Oscar nomination," he told MTV News when we visited the "Arthur" set. "What I did is, I've pretended to be Dudley Moore for a lot of this film, because I was thinking perhaps they just might think, 'He's almost the exact same as him. Let's nominate him for an Oscar.'"

That might not be enough to convince the Academy to give him an Oscar, but judging by the way his costars respond to him it, he might be able to get it on his own merit.

Coen BrothersIf there's one thing that Joel and Ethan Coen are the masters of, it's keeping their viewers on the edges of their seats. They're the masters of many things, of course, but just think of the countless suspenseful scenes we've already seen in their body of work: Brad Pitt in the closet in "Burn After Reading," Frances McDormand stumbling upon a not-so-conspicuous wood chipper in "Fargo," any scene with Javier Bardem in "No Country For Old Men." The list of horrific moments is looooong, folks.

With all of those scares fresh in your minds, consider the following: according to the Coen Bros. themselves, the dynamic directing duo are eyeballing what they've described as "a full-on horror movie." Say it with us now: yikes.

Guy PearceAdd "The Wettest County in the World" to our list of movies we're enormously excited about. Based on Matt Bondurant's novel about his grandfather and two great-uncles' bootlegging activities in Prohibition-era Virginia, the John Hillcoat-directed and Nick Cave-written gangster movie has already secured top-flight talents Shia LaBeouf and Tom Hardy for the two lead roles as the Bondurant boys.

Now, add four more stars to the cast: Guy Pearce, Gary Oldman, Mia Wasikowska and Jason Clarke are all on board for "The Wettest County in the World," which starts lensing in Georgia on February 28.

Stanley TucciThe search remains underway for "Jack the Giant Killer," but just because Bryan Singer hasn't selected his beanstalk climber just yet doesn't mean he hasn't filled out some other key roles.

The Hollywood Reporter informs us that two pivotal roles – the film's main villains, by the sound of it – have been cast. The catch? There are three actors occupying the two roles. The inimitable Stanley Tucci has nabbed one of them, while Bill Nighy and John Kassir (you know, The Crypt Keeper!) are putting their heads together for the second.

"Jack the Giant Killer" sports a familiar premise: a human princess is kidnapped by giants, threatening the long-standing peace between the towering titans and the ground-dwelling mankind. Jack, a young farmer, leads the charge against the giants and heads into enemy territory to rescue the princess.
