Ever since modern day Renaissance man James Franco registered his own Twitter account last week, he’s been keeping us entertained with his frequently random and sometimes bizarre postings.
Franco's Twitter feed got all of us buzzing with extra excitement yesterday for a very Oscar-related reason: the actor, student and whole-bunch-of-other-things posted a short YouTube video of himself and his Academy Awards co-host Anne Hathaway sporting all-black skin-tight leather and teased-up big hair.
Yes, we’re talking about Danny and Sandy from “Grease,” which the duo appear to be paying homage to. Check out the video after the jump!
True to Franco’s indie leanings, the 19-second clip is hipster cool with its whimsical music and vintage look. James and Anne recreate the carnival scene from “Grease” and also seem to be getting their dance on in the clip. Could this be a preview of the Oscars' opening performance? Or was this just something our esteemed hosts came up with when they got bored during rehearsals? Given Franco's boundless energy and creativity, we wouldn’t put it past him!
If it’s the former, then consider us excited! We know Hathaway can sing -- she wowed us at the 2009 Oscars dueting with Hugh Jackman and she’s going to pop up on "Glee" soon. As for Franco, the man acts, writes, paints and directs, so we doubt a little song and dance is going to trouble him -- although he did post a clip of himself singing Cher’s "You Haven’t Seen the Last of Me" from “Burlesque” on his Twitter account, and, uh, you can be the judge of his singing skills.
When Oscar night rolls around, we’re hoping for a "You’re The One That I Want” music number from the duo, something that stays true to Franco's postmodern style. The performance, we’re sure, would mark a win-win for the Academy: the jaded youth demographic gets drawn in by cool kids James and Anne, and baby boomers get to bask in “Grease” nostalgia!
Excited about Franco and Hathaway possibly doing “Grease” at the Oscars? Tell us what you think in the comments section and on Twitter!
