Without knowing much about it at all, "Prometheus" is already one of the most exciting films on the horizon in 2012. What was once considered an "Alien" prequel, "Prometheus" was ultimately announced as a new original idea from director Ridley Scott and screenwriter Damon Lindelof – until leading man Michael Fassbender cleared the air and informed us that "Prometheus" absolutely has direct ties to the "Alien" franchise.
Now, another piece of the murky puzzle has fallen into place: "Prometheus," which already stars "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" actress Noomi Rapace and the aforementioned "Inglourious Basterds" actor, has landed a third lead in the form of Charlize Theron.
Variety reports that Theron has inked a deal to star in the film, though there are few other details surrounding her involvement. But those who have followed the process of "Prometheus" will likely recall the character of Vickers, described by many as the second female lead right behind (or possibly alongside) Rapace's character, Elizabeth Shaw. Smart money says that this is Theron's role.
When "Prometheus" was officially announced, Theron was mentioned as a contender for Vickers along with Angelina Jolie. Looks like the "Monster" Oscar-winner won the part, and we couldn't be happier. Between Rapace, Fassbender, Theron, Scott and Lindelof, the talent involved with this film is absolutely remarkable – and with two other main characters left to cast, we can't wait to see who else is on tap for the developing sci-fi flick.
In joining "Prometheus," Theron adds a second blockbuster role to her slate; she previously committed to playing the Evil Queen in "Snow White and the Huntsmen," which has Kristen Stewart and Viggo Mortensen circling the title roles.
