Progress on "Safe House" evokes mixed emotions. On the one hand, the idea of Ryan Reynolds and Denzel Washington together in a CIA thriller is very exciting. On the other, it's just one more movie standing between Reynolds and "Deadpool," and we're starting to wonder whether or not he'll ever have the chance to do the Merc with the Mouth justice.
But while "Deadpool" remains in development limbo, the show must go on. And it's certainly going, as "Safe House" has roped in a quartet of fantastic actors for the forthcoming action flick.
The Wrap reports that "Harry Potter" actor Brendan Gleeson, "Black Hawk Down" star Sam Shepard, "Clash of the Titans'" Liam Cunningham and the T-1000 himself, Robert Patrick, are all on board for "Safe House," the Universal thriller from director Daniel Espinosa and writer David Guggenheim.
No details are known about the actors' various roles, but perhaps we can take a guess based on the premise of the movie: "Safe House" focuses on a CIA agent (Reynolds) who must protect a notorious criminal (Washington) after the safe house he's being held at comes under assault from highly trained assassins. It's up to Reynolds to get Washington safely to, well, Washington.
Meaty roles for Reynolds and Denzel to be sure, but what of the new actors? Are some of them destined to die at the hands of these ruthless assassins? Are they playing the triggermen themselves? Gleeson excels in villainous roles, so we're hoping he gets the chance to get his bad guy on in "Safe House." Same goes for all these men, really, though Shepard would do equally well as a military man and ally of Reynolds'. And we don't really need to tell you which side we're hoping Patrick falls on, do we? He's the T-1000, for crying out loud!
