Javier Bardem has confirmed that he's in the crosshairs for "James Bond 23," though he hasn't officially accepted or rejected the nemesis role that Sam Mendes wants him to play. But he's admitted that he's intrigued, and we can understand why — according to a new report, some big names are lining up for Agent 007's next adventure.
The Daily Mail reports that Voldemort himself, Oscar-winning actor Ralph Fiennes, has been offered a role in "Bond 23." The actor's representatives are allegedly in discussions with Mendes and producers about locking Fiennes into "a darkly complex role."
"It's the first of a new generation of Bond films, and the ideas Mendes has push the film into darker territory where the characters are modern, mature and challenging," a supposed executive involved with the film reveals. "The part is one of extreme complexity and only an actor of great ability and dexterity can take it on — and Ralph's name is top of our list."
Fiennes' role isn't believed to be the same as Javier Bardem's. Indeed, there are "a couple of other major names being courted for roles," with names like Kevin Spacey and the oft-rumored Simon Russell Beale mentioned in the report. None of this should be taken as gospel, but it's interesting to see so many different high caliber actors mentioned in connection with "Bond," even if the casting never pans out. Does this indicate that we're looking at numerous nemeses for the 23rd Bond picture? Perhaps we'll be seeing some of the higher-up members of Quantum in the next film? Who knows — but just like Bardem, we're intrigued, even if these are just rumors.
