We're only one month into 2011, but it's already safe to say that Javier Bardem is having an interesting year.
The Spanish actor, best known for his Oscar-winning turn as the haunting Anton Chigurh in "No Country For Old Men," is potentially looking at another Academy Award victory thanks to his Best Actor nomination for "Biutiful." Even more notable is the fact that Bardem has been offered the lead role of Roland Deschain in "The Dark Tower," Ron Howard's adaptation of Stephen King's classic novel series.
Now, add another possible franchise to Bardem's plate: the James Bond series.
Deadline reports that Bardem has been offered "a starring role" opposite Daniel Craig in the next James Bond film, currently set for release on November 9, 2012. Details on the character remain sketchy except for the fact that its a big role, leading many to assume that Bardem would be playing 007's latest nemesis.
Bardem in Bond would be badass enough in any form, but Bardem as a Bond baddie — where do we sign up? For everything that "Casino Royale" and "Quantum of Solace" got right, the Craig-led Bond movies haven't exactly knocked it out of the park in terms of memorable villains. But considering that Bardem delivered one of the most deliciously lethal performances of the 2000s as the coin-tossing and bolt pistol-wielding Chigurh, there's little question that the actor would create one of the most formidable opponents Bond has ever faced. If Bardem goes to Bond, we're absolutely on board.
