Accidents abounded today as news of a mishap at the Broadway musical "Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark" spread and winter weather caused some mayhem. Tom Felton, for instance, has been having a bad run of driving luck, but it does sound like he's okay.
Yesterday marked a sad anniversary, too, as Rose McGowan noted that it's been one year since Brittany Murphy's death. Her thoughts, as well as a shot of one of our favorite "Twilight" series actresses lending a hand at a Phoenix food bank, have been retweeted after the jump.

The tentative release date for the first "Dark Tower" film is still three years away, but potential director Ron Howard can't get Stephen King's beloved fantasy series out of his head.
"I really can't stop thinking about it," Howard told the Los Angeles Times. "We've been meeting and talking and I've been reading and researching and just kind of living with it... We're finding the shape of it. We're moving quickly now, as quickly as we can, and I feel challenged in the most exciting ways." Read more...

One phrase can be used to describe the speech Jeff Bridges gave when he took the stage at last year's Academy Awards to accept his Best Actor Oscar: The Dude abides. Bridges certainly held his cool as he accepted the statuette, but when he started shouting out "Thank you Academy members!" and "Mom and Dad, yeah! Look! Ahh haha, woo!," certain MTV staffers started wondering whether Bridges was just overcome with emotion or, you know, had been hitting Lebowski's private stash. With Bridges likely to earn another acting nomination for his work in "True Grit," MTV's Josh Horowitz decided to settle the question once and for all and ask the Dude if he was high during his acceptance speech.
After throwing his head back and laughing for a good 10 seconds, Bridges responded, "That's a funny question, and I like your reading, too." But was Bridges actually high? Read more...

Last month we questioned whether Saoirse Ronan was too young to play the lead role in the sexually-charged romance "Effie," but the new trailer for "Hanna" might have changed our opinion about whether it's appropriate for the 16-year-old actress to tackle more adult roles.
In "Hanna," Ronan plays one of the most dangerous assassins in the world -- a 14-year-old named Hanna -- with a cool ease that we've come to expect from the actress. Also, we think she legitimately put the fear of God in Cate Blanchett from some of those kills. Read more...

2010 was great year for HD imagery on the walls outside of theaters, as well as on indoor screens. The mark of a great poster comes when you get to the end of the year and remember a design and title even if you never made it to the box office to see the film. The exceptional ones may have even convinced you to make Friday night plans and dole out 12 bucks for a ticket.
Boasting some innovative layouts and homages to masterpieces of the past, as well as a keen grasp of what catches the eye, here are our top 10 picks for 2010 movie posters that will still be imprinted on our minds in 2011, 2012 and long after. Read more...

Emily Blunt has played a lot of wildly different parts in her career -- a cutthroat magazine assistant in "The Devil Wears Prada," a crime-scene spiffer-upper in "Sunshine Cleaning," the queen of England in "The Young Victoria" and now, in "Gulliver's Travels" (in theaters December 25), the thimble-sized princess of Liliput. But she's never before -- to our knowledge at least-- played an ax-wielding, time-traveling, futuristic farm girl.
As the sassy actress told MTV News at the press junket for "Gulliver's Travels," she'll do exactly that in the upcoming sci-fi time-travel thriller "Looper." Written and directed by visionary "Brick" filmmaker Rian Johnson, "Looper" also stars Bruce Willis and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, with both actors playing the same man in different time periods.
"It's sort of post-apocalypto time travel, time-traveling world where it's a dog-eat-dog world," Blunt said of the film. "And it's set in sort of 2050 or 2060, that sort of time, when the world has gone to s***." Read more...

The holiday season is rife with DVD and Blu-ray releases, chock full of special features, fancy packaging (a la "Sex and the City: The Complete Collection") and cutesy promo campaigns, like the one for Universal's "Despicable Me," -- which helped the movie gross $25 million in its first day of DVD release.
One of today's big releases is "Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps," and to celebrate, 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment is offering free taxi rides in few of New York City's busiest areas (Wall Street, Times Square, Fifth Avenue, etc.) from Dec. 20-24. Look for one of 10 Wall Street-themed cars for your freebie! (Also, good luck wrestling others for a ride.) For those who don't live in the Big Apple, MTV News is happy to showcase a snippet from the DVD and Bluy-ray's special features: "A Conversation with Oliver Stone and the Cast."
In the clip, Stone, Josh Brolin, Michael Douglas, Shia LaBeouf and Carey Mulligan are sitting in a room chatting about the film and, specifically, how it differs from the original. Read more...

How much would you pay to see Muhammad Ali Will Smith face off against Micky Ward Mark Wahlberg in the boxing ring? Well, apparently the Hollywood Boxing Federation is willing to pay each $1 million to face off in Las Vegas in three one-minute matches. Of course, Wahlberg has already said he dove face-first into a giant pile of cookies after training for "The Fighter" for four years, and it's been nine years since Smith finished training for "Ali," but these are all minor details.
Damon Feldman, CEO of Hollywood Boxing Federation, explained to RadarOnline that "this will be a great opportunity for both stars to fight in the Superbowl of Hollywood boxing and to donate millions to their favorite charities... Come on, I really think that this would be a huge event and great way for them to donate to their favorite charities." The offer went out today.
While we think the likelihood of this actually happening is pretty slim, we like where the HBF's head is at. If either Smith or Wahlberg (or both) turn the idea down, we have a couple ideas for other celebs-turned-boxers who might be willing to step up.

Well, Hollywood may be getting quiet this week, but Twitter-Wood most certainly is not. In fact, most everyone who's fleeing Los Angeles in our feed has been chronicling their fear and near-death experiences driving in the rain as they attempt to get out. Slightly more interesting, however, have been reactions to the "Survivor: Nicaragua" finale, "The Fighter" and "Black Swan."
Micro-reviews from Ice-T, Jon Favreau and Alicia Silverstone can be found after jump. There, you'll also find out who from the "Community" cast has been giving away Nintendo DS games and how Steve Martin approaches jury duty.

Despite a distinct lack of awards-season love thus far, we're sticking to our guns and proclaiming Matt Damon's turn as ornery Texas Ranger LaBoeuf (pronounced LaBeef, but bearing no relation to Shia) in the Coen Bros.' badass Western "True Grit" (in theaters December 22) one of the year's finest and most entertaining performances.
With a role like that in his holster, it's no wonder that the erstwhile Jason Bourne is in as much demand as ever these days. He's already wrapped the thriller "The Adjustment Bureau" and the animated sequel "Happy Feet 2," and has a gaggle of projects -- including Steven Soderbergh's "Contagion" and Cameron Crowe's "We Bought a Zoo" -- already in the hopper. But the most recent film Damon has been linked to is perhaps the most exciting: "Elysium," a top-secret sci-fi flick that reunites "District 9" director Neill Blomkamp with star Sharlto Copley. When MTV News caught up with Damon at the "True Grit" junket, we asked him whether he would indeed make his first foray into sci-fi with "Elysium."
"I'm hopeful. I really, really, really want to do it and I want to work with Neill. I think he's a genius," Damon gushed. "I loved 'District 9.' It was one of my favorite films last year. I thought the performances were incredible. So I'm hoping that it happens." Read more...
