Orlando BloomThe deluge of casting news for "The Hobbit" continues to pour in, and just like our most recent update, today's news concerns someone who is already very familiar with the world of Middle-Earth.

Deadline reports that Orlando Bloom is expected to be the next actor from "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy to lend his talents to director Peter Jackson's two-part prequel, "The Hobbit."

"He's near a deal to return as Elven archer Legolas," reports Deadline's Mike Fleming. "And it's for more than a cameo, I'm told."

If Bloom returns as Legolas, it would mark yet another departure between the big screen "Hobbit" and the novel penned by revered fantasy author J.R.R. Tolkien, as Legolas did not factor into the original tale of Bilbo Baggins. Likewise, Cate Blanchett recently agreed to return as Galadriel, despite the fact that the Lady of Lothlorien doesn't appear in "The Hobbit" novel. Read More...

Blue ValentineEarlier today, I posted an exclusive clip from the upcoming Ryan Gosling-Michelle Williams romantic drama "Blue Valentine" and lamented the fact that the film's NC-17 rating could severely limit its audience and potentially sabotage its awards prospects. Well, Gosling, Williams, the Weinstein Co. and anyone interested in seeing this flick in a theater can breath a sigh of relief.

Following a personal appeal from studio chief Harvey Weinstein, the MPAA has gone ahead and reversed its decision, changing the NC-17 it dealt "Blue Valentine" in October to a much more audience-friendly R, according to Variety.

The film had been hit with the NC-17 due to what the MPAA called a "shocking, gory depiction of a dying marriage"... which roughly translates to "a sex scene in which Gosling performs oral sex on Williams."

But according to Deadline, the MPAA ratings board unanimously voted to overturn their previous decision today. Perhaps they were swayed by arguments that other films featuring equally explicit oral sex scenes -- including the recently released critical darling "Black Swan" -- have received an R rating. Or perhaps they were just in the holiday spirit.

Whatever the case, the brand-spanking-new R rating means that 'Blue Valentine" can run promos on TV and run in national theater chains when it's released on December 31 -- two things it would not have been able to do with an NC-17. The fact that all this ratings ballyhoo has stirred up a ton of free PR for the film is just icing on the cake.

Are you glad "Blue Valentine" got its R rating? Tell us in the comments!

Armie HammerLiving up to his name, Armie Hammer nailed the dual role of the Winkelvoss twins in this fall's critical darling "The Social Network"... and now his fine work is paying some rock-solid dividends.

Entertainment Weekly has learned that the 24-year-old actor is in talks to join Leonardo DiCaprio in Clint Eastwood's "J. Edgar" (formerly titled "Hoover"), a biopic about controversial FBI director J. Edgar Hoover.

In the film, Hammer would play lawyer-turned-FBI-official Tyde Dolson, a man many believe was also Hoover's lover. Despite the fact that the two often clashed over political tactics, Dolson remained Hoover's friend and loyal confidant throughout his career. Read More...

Elizabeth EdwardsBetween Elizabeth Edwards' death and the anniversary of John Lennon's passing this week, the Twitter-Wood feed has been filled with condolences and memorial posts. Simon Pegg noted Lennon's legacy today, while Michael Moore, Alyssa Milano and Paris Hilton all shared their thoughts on Edwards' life.

Elsewhere, Eli Roth finally made it around to seeing the "Simpsons" "Inglourious Basterds" parody he was itching to find earlier this week, while Jeremy Piven hung out with some people in crazy masks. It's all documented along with Damon Lindelof's reaction to "Tron: Legacy."

I'm @brianwarmoth, and this is Twitter-Wood for December 8, 2010. Read More...

Tom Hardy"Boardwalk Empire" may have just ended its first season, but Hollywood isn't ready to give up on Prohibition yet. The Los Angeles Times has the news that Tom Hardy and Shia LaBeouf are teaming up to star in the dramatic thriller "The Wettest County in the World," which is coming at us from "The Road" director John Hillcoat. The title may sound a bit, um, XXX, but Hardy and LaBeouf will be playing Prohibition-era bootleggers and brothers... that is if the Times' sources are correct.

The screenplay for "County" is written by Nick Cave, who's best known for writing "The Proposition." The story will be based on the Matt Bondurant novel of the same name, which is fiction but inspired by Bondurant's family's real-life bootlegging adventures. Read More...

There are a lot of amazing things about Christopher Nolan's "Inception," one of which is undoubtedly the many insane sets throughout the film. One of the most striking is a towering Japanese fortress that appears at the beginning of the movie, setting the stage for a topsy-turvy ride through the imagination.

With the DVD and Blu-ray out this week, we wanted to give you a taste of the very interesting behind-the-scenes featurettes. To that end, we have a clip of Nolan's crew discussing the designing of the castle and how it was conceived. Check it out below.

Are you pumped for "Inception" on Blu-ray and DVD? Tell us why in the comments!

There's nothing quite like that feeling of first love. It makes you want to sing, to dance, to forget yourself and just enjoy the moment, which is exactly what Ryan Gosling and Michelle Williams do in the exclusive clip from "Blue Valentine" below (props to Gosling for a decent voice and Williams for those tap-dance moves).

"Blue Valentine" tells the wrenching story of a married couple over the course of many years, jumping back and forth in time to depict both the rapture of their early love (see above) and the subsequent crumbling of their relationship. It's an intense, emotional film that's drawing critical raves and loads of awards buzz for stars Ryan Gosling and Michelle Williams. It's the kind of end-of-the-year film audiences can't wait to see. There's just one problem: They might not get the chance. Read More...

Will SmithThe Wachowskis have had two films in the works for a while now, but since "Cobalt Neural 9" is still having trouble finding funding and "Cloud Atlas" is also slow to gain traction, it looks like the filmmaking duo has decided to look to new material for their next project. The Hollywood Reporter broke the news that "Matrix" co-directors Andy and Lana (formerly Larry) Wachowski have teamed up with Warner Bros. for a modern urban retelling of the Robin Hood tale called "Hood."

They've already written the script and, unsurprisingly, will direct the film, though they aren't letting slip the particulars of the plot. However, insiders did say that the Wachowskis are already reaching out to some actors, including Will Smith, to star. Read More...

Liam NeesonIf you didn't see "Clash of the Titans," you could be forgiven for thinking that Liam Neeson was simply playing a long-haired guy who spends all of his time shouting "release the Kraken!" at every turn. You're close, but not quite there: Neeson played Zeus, the king of the Gods, in the mythologically driven swords-and-sandals epic -- and according to the Irish actor, his days as the thunder-cracking overlord are far from over.

Speaking with the Belfast Telegraph, Neeson confirmed his involvement in the forthcoming "Clash of the Titans" sequel, confirming that the title is "Wrath of the Titans." Production is expected to begin in just a few short months, according to the actor.

"We will start next March," revealed the actor. "I'm very much looking forward to it. It's a whole revamping, you know." Read More...

Jon Favreau"Iron Man 2" director Jon Favreau's in-development Disney film "Magic Kingdom" raised several eyebrows when it was first announced. Would it be Disney's answer to "Night at the Museum" with popular characters like Jack Sparrow and Buzz Lightyear running around the world-famous theme park, or would it be something else?

"[The story for Magic Kingdom] is essentially a family caught in Disneyland, bringing all of the attractions to life," Favreau told Geek Time radio (via Screen Rant) during a recent appearance on the show. "I really want to plumb the depths of the history of the park because it's a place I love to go a few times a year.”

Favreau added that he doesn't believe "Magic Kingdom" would be a mash-up that relies too heavily on other Disney properties like the aforementioned "Pirates of the Caribbean" and "Toy Story" characters. Read More...
