FROM SPLASH PAGE: Ever since Nick Fury uttered the phrase "the Avengers initiative" to Tony Stark at the end of the first "Iron Man," fans have been waiting with bated breath to see ol' Shellhead get together with Thor and Captain America on the silver screen. But there has been some skepticism as to how it would all work out — after all, Tony is a tech-based character while someone like Thor depends heavily on mysticism.

While we're not necessarily closer to an answer on how well they'll share the screen in "The Avengers," we certainly have a much better idea about how the Thunder God is going to fit into cinemas next summer.

Marvel Entertainment and Yahoo have unveiled the highly anticipated trailer for "Thor," director Kenneth Branagh's adaptation of the classic Marvel Comics hero starring Chris Hemsworth — and needless to say, it looks like Marvel has captured lightning in a bottle once again.

The FighterMark Wahlberg and Christian Bale are the stars of "The Fighter," director David O. Russell's latest film telling the true story of "Irish" Micky Ward (Wahlberg), a Massachusetts boxer who successfully fought his way to the top thanks to coaching from his troubled brother Dicky (Bale), a former fighter himself.

"The Fighter" has earned early praise for both Wahlberg and Bale's work as well as Russell's directing, and by all accounts, it looks like the film is set to take its place as one of the great boxing movies of all time. Of course, it's got some hefty competition to weigh in against — after the jump, check out our personal picks for the best boxing movies of all time! Read More...

Miley CyrusElizabeth Edwards showed up in numerous memorial tweets earlier this week, but even more posts surfaced today to express disgust over the Westboro Baptist Church's decision to picket her funeral. The announcement did inspire Michael Ian Black to declare a new item to scratch off of his life's bucket list, though.

In other topics, Denis Leary applauded Miley Cyrus for video of the singer-actress smoking a bong. His commentary, along with Ice-T's reaction to Wesley Snipes going to jail and Damon Lindelof on the "Community" Christmas special's "Lost" jab has been retweeted after the jump.

You Won't Miss Me In the indie film "You Won't Miss Me" (in select theaters today), Stella Schnabel -- the daughter of acclaimed filmmaker Julian Schnabel ("Basquiat," "Before Night Falls," "The Diving Bell and the Butterfly") -- tackles her first true film role, playing 23-year-old New York City misfit Shelly Brown. Fresh out of a psychiatric hospital, Shelly is in search of acceptance in any shape or form she can find it, and is willing to do pretty much anything to achieve that goal. It's a daring role for an untested actress, but Schnabel pulls it off with empathy, charisma and the talented direction of longtime pal Ry-Russo Young.

I had the opportunity to chat with Russo-Young, who was here in New York, and a very under-the-weather Schnabel, who called in to the interview just a wee bit late from Los Angeles, where she's currently filming Oren Moverman's "Rampart." The two old friends talked at length about their very unique collaborative process, why Stella's kissing scenes with her real-life best friend caused some off-screen drama, and how filming the movie's cinéma vérité scenes almost landed Russo-Young and Schnabel in the slammer. Matt DamonOne of the aspects of Neill Blomkamp's big screen debut "District 9" that made it such a surprising success was the fact that it starred no marquee actors. It was the first major film role for its leading man, Sharlto Copley, with whom Blomkamp had been close friends for years. Copley's since gone on to do bigger and badder things like "The A-Team," but we all breathed a happy little sigh when we found out earlier this week that he and Blomkamp would be reteaming for another sci-fi film, "Elysium."

Turns out we weren't the only ones who got excited. Deadline has the news that Matt Damon is in talks to join forces with Copley and Blomkamp for the film. The closest Damon has come to futuristic sci-fi flick in his career was when he voiced Cale Tucker in the animated film "Titan A.E." back in 2000, so it's pretty exciting news that he'll be delving into the genre with as promising a director as Blomkamp. Aside from the nickname "Jolie," former "Jersey Shore" starlet Angelina Pivarnick doesn't have a whole lot in common with her Oscar-winning nicknamesake.

Angelina Jolie is the butt-kicking star of such blockbusters as "Lara Croft: Tomb Raider," "Mr. & Mrs. Smith," "Wanted" and "Salt," a crusading philanthropist battling poverty and other ills across the world, and one half of the genetically blessed super-couple Brangelina. Pivarnick is a sassy Staten Island-bred bartender, a known associate of people with names like the Situation, Snookie, JWow and DJ Pauly D., and a huge fan of GTL (that's the sacred trinity of Gym, Tan, Laundry for the "Jersey Shore" uninitiated).

Naturally, we had to wonder what Jolie's latest film, the mistaken-identity thriller "The Tourist," would have been like had Pivarnick starred opposite Johnny Depp instead of Jolie. So we re-cut the "Tourist" trailer with one rather massive change: We subbed in Pivarnick for Jolie. Read More...

Hugh Jackman's upcoming film "Real Steel" must have been jealous of all the attention that the new "Transformers: Dark of the Moon" teaser has been getting this week, because a new trailer just bum-rushed the Internet to show off 2011's other robo-oriented action film. And while the bots may not come from Cybertron, they do look like they could have come from a nearby moon where the law of the land resembles the rules for "Rock'em Sock'em Robots."

Director Shawn Levy of "Night at the Museum" fame is behind this spectacle, which has been scheduled to hit theaters next year on October 7. The story follows a down-on-his luck fighter played by Jackman who teams up with his son to reclaim some glory in a circuit of competitions that are dominated by machines instead of men. The plot comes from a short story called "Steel" by Richard Matheson and doesn't seem reminiscent of Michael Bay's "Transformers" films at all until you see these first clips, which were posted to YouTube. In "You Won't Miss Me," Stella Schnabel -- daughter of "The Diving Bell and the Butterfly" and "Before Night Falls" director Julian Schnabel -- plays Shelly Brown, a 23-year-old trying to find work, love and herself in New York City. That's a tall order for any twenty-something living in the Big Apple, but it's an even stiffer proposition for someone who's recently been released from a psychiatric hospital... which Shelly has. Check out an exclusive clip from the film below.

"You Won't Miss Me" is directed by Ry Russo-Young, features a bevy of notable New York artists and musicians, and is a mix of scripted film and cinéma vérité. It opens in limited release today (December 10).

Jesse EisenbergFollowing his critically acclaimed (and, fingers crossed, potentially Oscar nominated) performance as Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg in "The Social Network," Jesse Eisenberg has instantly become an actor to watch — and thankfully, we know where we can watch him next.

The Wrap reports that Eisenberg has found his next project in the form of indie dramedy "Free Samples." The actor joins an extensive cast including Jess Weixler, Jason Ritter, Tippi Hedren, Hallie Pfeiffer, Keir O'Donnell, Jocelyn Donahuge and Matt Walsh.

Eisenberg's latest role is merely a supporting one, however, as "Free Samples" focuses mainly on Weixler's character. Read More...

Chris ZylkaFROM SPLASH PAGE: Spider-Man may have met his match in the form of The Lizard and Proto-Goblin, but there's another enemy that has his sights on the superhero's day-to-day alter-ego.

The Wrap reports that Chris Zylka has joined the cast of the forthcoming "Spider-Man" reboot as Flash Thompson, Peter Parker's longtime high school nemesis. The part was previously played in Sam Raimi's trilogy by "True Blood" actor Joe Manganiello, recently rumored as a contender for Zack Snyder's "Superman" reboot.

Zylka is best known for the recurring role of Gabe Lammotti on "Hannah Montana." Curiously enough, he's also playing a character named Thor in a movie called "Kaboom." No relation to the upcoming Marvel Studios movies, as far as we know!
