We wanted to believe the rumors as much as the next fan -- that Paul Rudd would voice Jason Segel's iPhone-obsessed puppet roommate in the new "Muppets" movie that's amassing one heck of a star-studded cast. Sadly, the bromantic reteaming of the "I Love You Man" co-stars is not to be -- at least in this particular flick.
"I wish that I was [in it]. It's all rumor," Rudd told MTV News at the 2010 Gotham Awards. "I wanted to be in it, and I talked to Jason, but I think there was some things that happened and I don't know if I'm gonna get to do it."
Is Rudd bummed? Totes magotes! "It blows actually," he laughed. "It really sucks." But don't write the actor off from future "Muppets" movies just yet. "I'm hoping for the 'Muppet Movie 2.' I'm playing Charles Grodin in 'Muppet 2: Electric Waterloo?' Beaker-loo?" he joked. Unsatisfied with his suggestion, he mulled over the title for a moment before dropping this winner on us: "Muppet Movie 2: The Muppets Are Still Taking Manhattan."
While we're sorry to hear that Rudd's comedic talents won't be on display in this film, which was co-written by Segel and hits theaters Christmas Day 2012, the stellar main cast and a confirmed lineup of awesome cameos already have us stoked for the Muppets' big-screen comeback. In addition to Segel, Amy Adams, Chris Cooper, Rashida Jones, Zach Galifianakis, Jack Black, Emily Blunt, Ricky Gervais, Billy Crystal, Alan Arkin and Jean-Claude Van Damme are confirmed for the film, with the likes of Lady Gaga, Sean Penn and John Krasinski also rumored for cameo duty.
Are you bummed Rudd won't be in "The Muppets" movie? What do you think of the rest of the cast?
