Josh's Top 10 of 2010Are you top ten-ed out? Probably? But damn it, I didn't see a zillion movies this year (OK, around 150) to not earn the right to subject you to a list of my 10 favorites. Honestly this list is probably more for me than for you guys. As we head into the awards season (People's Choice is just days away, get your powder blue tux ready!), what better way to get into the right mindset of endless accolades than to bestow my own. So here we go folks... the top 10 films of 2010* according to me.

*List void on January 1st when I'll surely change my mind about a few of these.

Black SwanIt was appropriate that for the last Twitter-Wood update of 2010, the feed included plenty of examples of what made the year great. "Black Swan" reactions continued to appear, while Michael Ian Black and Brody Stevens wished horrible fates upon people for the new year and Seth MacFarlane proposed a New Year's resolution for anyone who hasn't picked one yet.

Ice-T sounded off with his feelings about the police, as he apparently got pulled over this week. His rant, as well as Jeremy Piven's fear of saunas and Anna Kendrick's love for the show "Misfits" can be found down below.

Bend It Like BeckhamHere's your daily dose of random news: The New York Times reported today that North Korea lifted their ban on Western-influenced films to honor the 10th anniversary of diplomatic ties between North Korea and Britain. What film did they decide to air on television on Sunday to commemorate this important event? Why, "Bend It Like Beckham," of course!

The two-hour-long film was chopped down to only about an hour in length, the Times reported, joking "so please, no spoilers about the film's subplots about religion and sexuality, or which of the women Mr. Rhys Meyers character ultimately chooses." But still, "Bend It Like Beckham" seems like such a strange choice for the British Embassy to choose. We have a few suggestions after the jump for films we think would have been better to show (though Kim Jong-il would probably beg to differ). Read more...

Harry Potter vs. Twilight

Last week, we here at MTV Movies Blog asked you -- the members our well-informed, movie-loving readership -- to vote for your favorite film of 2010. You responded with vigor, casting 5,000 votes in the course of one week (nicely done!).

There were 34 movies included in the poll, ranging from indie darlings like "The Kids Are All Right" to mega-blockbusters like the year's highest-grossing film "Toy Story 3." In truth, however, the race came down to just two movies, "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 1" and "The Twilight Saga: Eclipse," proving that both series' fan bases have some seriously devoted members.

In the end, "Potter" beat out "Twilight" by a narrow 449 vote margin, with "Deathly Hallows - Part 1" amassing 46.5 percent of the total vote to "Eclipse"'s 37.5 percent -- together accounting for a whopping 84 percent of votes. In a shocker, the 3-D animated comedy "How to Train Your Dragon" beat out all other comers to notch a distant third with 10.74 percent of the vote, while Christopher Nolan's mind-bending thriller "Inception" (2.09 percent) and Disney's critically acclaimed Rapunzel retelling "Tangled" (0.52 percent) took the #4 and #5 slots, respectively.

Rounding out the top 10 -- in races separated by just a handful of votes -- were "Toy Story 3" at #6 (0.32 percent), "Black Swan" at #7 (0.3 percent), "The Social Network" and "Easy A" tied for #8 (0.28 percent) and Tim Burton's "Alice in Wonderland" at #10 (0.24 percent).

Hit the jump to see how the rest of the 34 movies fared. Read more...

Toy Story 3Some people love reading critics' reviews of movies, while other people hate them, but I think we can all unanimously agree that Rotten Tomatoes' aggregation of certified critics' reviews is one of the best movie resources on the web. The site's just listed the top 20 best-reviewed movies of 2010 (with a minimum of 60 reviews required), and the majority of them shouldn't be too surprising.

"Toy Story 3" took the top spot with 99 percent of the film's 247 reviews being positive. It's fitting, for once, that the top reviewed film of the year is also the highest grossing film of the year, and one of two movies in 2010 to gross over one billion dollars worldwide (the other is "Alice in Wonderland"). But what might surprise some people (especially those who didn't see it) is that another animated film, "How To Train Your Dragon," placed second on the list with 98 percent of its 156 reviews being positive. "How To Train Your Dragon" was the ninth highest grossing film of the year. Read more...

Best Movie Quotes

The most memorable movie lines require three things: They must sound like something a real person (or at least the character uttering them) would, you know, actually say; they must be smarter, funnier and snappier than what a real person would actually say (this sounds like it would contradict the first point, but it doesn't); and they must have a great actor to give them a great delivery. It's a delicate balance, and one that takes both skill -- and a tiny bit of luck -- to achieve.

This year was packed with plenty of ear-pleasing, intensely quotable movie quotes, ranging from the highbrow ("The Social Network" and "True Grit") to the not-so-highbrow ("The Other Guys" and "Machete"). Some movies -- here's looking at you, "Social Network" -- were so full of amazing one-liners and witty exchanges that I could have made a top 10 list just drawing from them. But in the interest of fairness, I'll stick to one awesome line per movie. Below, take a look at my picks for the 10 best movie quotes of 2010, then hit the comments to share your own favorites! Johnny Depp in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger TidesThe Internet Movie Database has compiled its list of the top 25 (and top 100) most searched stars in 2010, and if there's anything that it shows it's that the "Twilight Saga" stars might actually be going out of style. While Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson still sit happily at the #2 and #3 spots (respectively), Taylor Lautner tumbled from the #5 spot in 2009 down to the #14 spot this year, Dakota Fanning went from #8 to #18, and Ashley Greene and Nikki Reed fell off the list entirely. (Greene dropped to #52 in the top 100 while Reed joined co-stars Kellan Lutz and Peter Facinelli somewhere outside the top hundy.)

But does that really mean anything for the series? Probably not, considering Daniel Radcliffe is nowhere to be see on the list, Emma Watson dropped from #53 to #64, and Rupert Grint was never on it at all, yet "Harry Potter" continues to dominate in the box office. Maybe the reason why the "Twilight" stars were searched less is because 90 percent of the global movie-loving audience can now recite their filmographies from memory, but you never know.

Unsurprisingly, the top spot on IMDb's list goes to Johnny Depp, taking that honor for the sixth time. Considering Depp's won in the past without having any movies come out that year, the release of "Alice in Wonderland," "The Tourist" and the new "Pirates of the Caribbean" trailer made this one Depp's to lose. Find out who else made the cut after the jump. Read more...

Elton JohnElton John has been receiving congratulatory notes from around Twitter-Wood this week, thanks to the birth of his son Zachary. Neil Patrick Harris even wants to pencil in some play dates as soon as possible.

In other tweets, Olivia Wilde graciously accepted some congrats from Chris Kattan, while John Cusack attempted to clear up some confusion about his travels among his friends. And I wouldn't recommend doing to your iPhone what Penn Jillette put his through, but he seems sold on the product's ability to withstand a two-story fall. Find out why -- and who wants to get married in a tribute to Hugh Hefner -- after the jump.

Billy BoydCongratulations are in order for "Lord of the Rings" star Billy Boyd, who got hitched to his longtime girlfriend Ali McKinnon earlier today.

While it was reported that the ceremony and subsequent celebration were small and intimate, we couldn't help but wondering what it would look like if Boyd had his fellow "LOTR" ring bearers reprise their roles in his wedding party.

To this end, we turned to our dear friend Photoshop and whipped up a pretty sweet photo of Boyd with an all-Hobbit wedding party. Check out the pic after the jump.

Can you see "The Devil Wears Prada" star Emily Blunt as kick-ass heroine Katniss Everdeen in director Gary Ross' upcoming "Hunger Games" adaptation? At 27, Blunt's a bit older than Katniss' 16 years to be sure... but if the almost-30-year-old "kids" from "Glee" can do it, why not Emily?

We're only asking because the topic of "Hunger Games" came up when MTV's Josh Horowitz chatted with Blunt at the press day for "Gulliver's Travels." The actress revealed that she was deep into reading the first novel in author Suzanne Collins' gritty young-adult trilogy -- about a brutal post-apocalyptic world in which the government forces children to fight to the death in a yearly televised event -- and was absolutely loving it. "I'm two thirds of the way through, and kind of riveted by it and terrified by it at the same time," she said. "I can't stop reading it." Of course, Josh had to ask: Does Blunt want to star in the movie adaptation?

"Yeah, I think I'm too old," she replied. When Josh agreed that Blunt was "obviously" too old for the role of Katniss, but could perhaps tackle a more age-appropriate part, the actress jokingly shot back, "Obviously, you're ancient." Read more...
