FROM SPLASH PAGE: The search is on for the next Superman, and a new report sheds a bit more light on the qualifications required to bring the Man of Steel back to the big screen.
Deadline reports that Warner Bros., producer Christopher Nolan and director Zack Snyder are casting a "wide net" for an actor to play Superman in the upcoming reboot of the movie franchise. The report echoes many of the previous qualifications rumored for potential candidates, including the studio's willingness to go after an unknown or lesser-known actor, and an age range of 28-to-32.
The report also indicates that the studio is targeting a June 2011 start for production on the film due to the 2009 judgment that saw much of the rights to Superman revert back to creators Jerry Siegel and Joe Schuster in 2013.

This is it, "Harry Potter" fans, the moment you've (OK, we've) been waiting for all year long: "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1" has officially arrived. The film marks the bittersweet beginning of the end for Potterheads who've spent the past decade devouring J.K. Rowling's books and the critically acclaimed films based upon them, as beloved heroes Harry, Ron and Hermione leave the comfy confines of Hogwarts behind and strike out on a quest to find and destroy the various pieces of Voldemort's vile soul. And it's all leading up to that epic Harry-Voldie showdown -- and a final farewell to the franchise -- in next July's "Deathly Hallows: Part 2."
But let's not get ahead of ourselves. First there's "Part 1" to be watched. And this weekend, millions of moviegoers -- many of them clad in Hogwarts school uniforms, carrying brooms and sporting makeshift lightning bolt scars on their forehead -- will line up to do just that... and they'll do it no matter what the critics say. Movie reviews could compare it to one of Bertie Bott's vomit-flavored jelly beans, and still fans would eat it up. Luckily, the vast majority of critics think this particular brew tastes a whole lot better than Polyjuice potion (which we all know tastes like goblin's piss). Check out what they're saying in the review round-up below. Read more...

Still undecided about whether or not to got see "Morning Glory"? Richard Kelly's micro-review today may help you make up your mind. As for whether or not you should check out the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade next week, Miranda Cosgrove's been encouraging her followers to watch; but she is a little biased.
In other tweets, if you've been learning more about Prince William than you ever wanted to know during the past few days since he announced his engagement, you aren't alone. Check out how "Harold and Kumar" creator Jon Hurwitz feels about British Royalty after the jump, where you'll also see where Toby Wilkins is at with filming MTV's new "Teen Wolf" series and what Alison Brie's Wu-Tang name is.

We're all about "Harry Potter" this week at MTV Movies Blog, and we figure there is no better way to celebrate the beginning of the end of the beloved franchise than by looking back at the six previous films.
So each day this week we've been providing recaps of the earlier "Harry Potter" movies. Consider them a kind of affectionate Cliff's Notes and a much-need refresher to prepare for the November 19 release of "Deathly Hallows: Part 1." We've already brought you up to speed on "Sorcerer's Stone," "Chamber of Secrets," "Prisoner of Azkaban" and "Goblet of Fire," so we suggest you catch up before diving into the fifth installment of the "Potter" saga, "Order of the Phoenix," also known as "Harry Potter Goes Through Puberty."
"Order of the Phoenix" is one of the darkest films (and novels) in the entire series, and part of that comes from the fact that it includes the first major death in the series (no offense, Cedric) as well as the fact that 15-year-old Harry Potter is dealing with all the drama and trouble that comes with transforming into an adult at the same time that he's rebelling against the responsibilities that entails. Looks like the gang's almost all back together! In an unsurprising turn of events, Howard Shore (not pictured) has announced to The Province that he will be returning to score both parts of the "Lord of the Rings" prequel "The Hobbit."
"We've talked about making these movies for many years, at least since 2002," he told the newspaper. "It looks like finally it's going to be happening. I'll be working on it for the next three years -- it's going to consume a lot of my time and work now."
Shore won three Academy Awards for his work on the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy, and the powerful music he created for the films definitely helped cement their status as some of the finest fantasy flicks of all time. With "Rings" director Peter Jackson back on board for both prequels as well, it looks like our dreams of seeing "The Hobbit" be a seamless part of the "Lord of the Rings" universe have finally come to fruition. Maybe you were one of the people who called it way back in 2000, that the then 10-year-old Emma Watson, a.k.a. Harry Potter's best platonic gal pal, would one day be hot. If you were, well, that's kind of weird. But at least there's some solace to be had in the knowledge that you were pretty much on the money.
Watson was just 9 years old when she landed the role of studious Hermione Granger in "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone," her first professional acting gig (she'd previously appeared in school plays). Even back then, Watson was bright and precocious (here's some video proof) with a vocabulary that would put most college kids to shame.

"Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1" is breaking records before it even hits theaters, and we have to admit that we're not really all that surprised. According to what Warner Bros. told Deadline, "Deathly Hallows" is going to be screened at 3,700 locations for its midnight release alone. But that's nothing compared to Friday, where the film is going to be shown at 4,125 theaters and on over 9,000 screens... not counting IMAX. Okay, so that's a bit intense.
If you've waited until this week to buy your midnight release ticket, you've probably discovered to your dismay that pretty much all the showings have been sold out. And, if you were hoping to see the film in IMAX this weekend, you're definitely screwed, because almost all the record-breaking 239 IMAX screens are already sold out for the weekend. To compare, "Half-Blood Prince" only played on 166 IMAX screens.
So, with a day until the film comes out (or 10 hours, if you're doing a midnight screening like I am), just how much has Warner Bros. already made in ticket sales? $25 million, another new record. Read more...

"Paranormal Activity 2" has scared up $157 million worldwide -- off a measly $3 million budget -- since bowing in October, giving Paramount 157 million (and counting) reasons to set a release date for "Paranormal Activity 3." And that's exactly what the studio has done, setting the third installment in the hit horror franchise for an October 21, 2011, release.
The obvious profitability of the endeavor aside, a "Paranormal Activity 3" should come as no surprise to anyone who saw "Paranormal 2." That film -- and some "PA2" spoilers will follow, so consider this your OFFICIAL SPOILER ALERT -- clearly set up a sequel. Read more...

Looks like Alfonso Cuaron's "Gravity" is officially out of orbit. Though Sandra Bullock is still in line to play the film's heroine, Heat Vision has confirmed that Robert Downey Jr. has left the project. Not one to remain idle, Downey is reportedly sizing up a starring role in the adaptation of the book "How to Talk to Girls."
RDJ is definitely one of the hottest men in Hollywood right now, and last month we took you through all the upcoming projects he is attached to before "Iron Man 3" is released in 2013. After the jump we have a revised list to help movie fans keep everything straight. Read more...

Those of you who have read "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" already know which couples get their happily ever after in the end. But "Deathly Hallows: Part 1," which hits theaters Friday, definitely tries its best to make you question which characters should end up together.
Harry Potter (Daniel Radcliffe), Ron Weasley (Rupert Grint) and Hermione Granger (Emma Watson) have been best friends since their first year at Hogwarts, and all along the movies have hinted that it's Ron and Hermione that have some romantic feelings simmering just beneath the surface. But would Harry and Hermione be a better match? You're going to get a chance to think about that in "Part 1" thanks to a couple of scenes we won't spoil here (though, you can read about one of them here if you want). But before then we want to know your thoughts on the matter! Hit the jump to vote in our poll, then share your thoughts in the comments! Read more...
