Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2

Warner Bros. and I seem to have our minds in the same place. See, "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1" has been out for a whopping five days, which means it's clearly the right time to start looking forward to "Deathly Hallows - Part 2." Fortunately, WB has appeased my desire to gaze eight months into the future by releasing the very first photo from "Part 2."

It's kind of cheating, since we already saw this moment in the full "Deathly Hallows" trailer back in June, but considering we didn't let speculation get the best of us and guess what was going on in this scene, now seems like the best time to start! We'll dive into the dissection after the jump. Read More...

Mark Wahlberg is no stranger to starring in movies based on video games -- he played the title role in the 2008 adaptation of the first-person shooter game "Max Payne." And he's also quite comfortable to working with writer-director David O. Russell -- they've collaborated together on "Three Kings," "I Heart Huckabees" and this year's Oscar hopeful "The Fighter," about boxer "Irish" Mickey Ward.

So it makes perfect sense that Wahlberg is now set to tackle the lead role of adventurer Nathan Drake in "Uncharted: Drake's Fortune," the hot-ticket video-game adaptation that Russell is writing and directing. Wahlberg -- who was recently named one of MTV's actors we're most thankful for in 2010 -- confirmed as much when we caught up with him at the junket for "The Fighter."

"David is one of the best writer/directors I've ever worked with," Wahlberg told MTV. "The idea that he has is just insane. So hopefully we'll be making that movie this summer." Read More...

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows"Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 1" certainly had its share of great scenes (Malfoy Manor! George and Fred! The Ministry of Magic!), but with the film ending on such a cliffhanger, we can't help looking forward to all the even better scenes that we get to finally see in "Part 2." There are Horcruxes to find, motivations to reveal and bad guys to kill, and we cannot handle the wait for the next eight months. Seriously, can it be July 15, 2011, already?

That being said, we decided to honor the most magical number known to wizards and count down seven scenes we cannot wait to see in "Part 2." If you haven't read "Deathly Hallows" and/or spoiled the story for yourself already, please don't read any further because many spoilers lie ahead, and we recommend saving all the major plot points being unveiled on the big screen instead of in our list. You have been warned! Everyone who has read the book and does want to talk "Part 2," please join in the discussion in the comments section at the bottom of this post! Read More...

By now, you've probably had a chance to check out the trailer for director Jon Favreau's sci-fi Western comic-book adaptation "Cowboys & Aliens," which stars Daniel Craig as a badass amnesiac cowboy who becomes reluctant allies with a nasty Harrison Ford to defend a town from some ill-meaning E.T.'s.

Chances are, however, that you haven't yet seen the trailer like this... with running commentary from Favreau himself. MTV sat down with the "Iron Man" director at his L.A. editing studio to get a play-by-play of what's going on in the trailer, why he made certain choices... and what you didn't see in the clip.

What do you think of the "Cowboys & Aliens" trailer? Was Favreau's commentary enlightening? Tell us in the comments!

There are few movies out there right now that are more eagerly anticipated than "The Dark Knight Rises," the third installment in Christopher Nolan's critically acclaimed Batman franchise. But other than the title, some love-interest casting rumors, and the fact that "Inception" star Tom Hardy has joined the cast as a probable foe for Christian Bale's Bruce Wayne/Batman, there's very little intel available on the film.

So when MTV's Josh Horowitz caught up with Bale at the press junket for "The Fighter," he asked the actor for a bit of Bat dish. Bale obliged by seemingly confirming that Hardy will play a villain.

Unfortunately, he also parted with some news that won't be as kind to Batman fans' ears: "The Dark Knight Rises" will most likely mark the last time Bale suits up as the Caped Crusader... and the last time Nolan directs a film in the series. "I think so. That's up to Chris," he said. "That was always what the discussion was. But you know, if Chris says, 'I see another story here,' then we'll be up for it. But in my mind, I'm expecting this will be it."

Sounds to us like Bale's leaving the door slightly ajar for his and Nolan's potential return. Might we suggest a reunion a couple decades down the road to film an adaptation of Frank Miller's well-regarded graphic novel "The Dark Knight Returns," in which a 55-year-old Bruce Wayne comes out of retirement to fight crime once again?

"That maybe would not be bad," Bale chuckled at the suggestion. "Maybe in 20 years time, but you need that break."

Should "The Dark Knight Rises" be the final film in Nolan and Bale's Batman saga... or are you thirsty for more? Tell us in the comments!

Buffy the Vampire SlayerJoss Whedon isn't the only one out there with an opinion on the new "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" reboot from Warner Bros. Former "Buffy" actress Amber Benson contributed some perspective yesterday with a possible explanation for the current situation.

On a more serious note, tension between North Korea and South Korea has been on a lot of minds today after the North shelled the island of Yeonpyeong, killing two soldiers. John Cho was among those hoping for a peaceful outcome, while elsewhere Damon Lindelof shared his own thoughts on resolving disputes. He's retweeted below, along with fears about Thanksgiving and a thank-you note to Jessica Simpson's surprise chicken-soup benefactor.

Johnny Depp and Gore VerbinskiThe cry emanating from Disney today probably sounds something like this: Hi-ho, Verbinski! Deadline confirms that the Mouse House and producer Jerry Bruckheimer have officially tapped Gore Verbinski, who directed the first three "Pirates of the Caribbean" films, to reunite with star Johnny Depp for the studio's reboot of "The Lone Ranger" franchise.

Depp is set to play Tonto, a Native American warrior who nurses an injured Texas Ranger back to health after his entire party (save himself, of course) is decimated by a band of outlaws. Once strong like bull again, this Lone Ranger dons a mask and, with Tonto by his side and his trusty steed Silver beneath him, hunts down the aforementioned outlaws. Read More...

A.D. directed by Ben HibonOne of the more impressive and original segments of "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 1" was the animated sequence toward the end of the film when the Tale of the Three Brothers (a.k.a the origin story of the Deathly Hallows) is explained. It was Swiss director Ben Hibon who helmed this part of the film, and apparently it only took a few days for the animated segment to turn some heads in Hollywood. According to Variety, Hibon has been tapped to direct a dark take on the classic "Peter Pan" story, simply called "Pan."

The film had originally been acquired in 2006 for Guillermo del Toro to direct, and it's easy to see how Hibon's style matches up to the "Pan's Labyrinth" director. It sounds like "Pan" is going to be a live-action flick and not animated like Hibon's previous work, but it most likely will be highly stylized. Read More...

Fresh off the viral sensation "American Talk With Josh Horowitz," which saw "Harry Potter" stars Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, Rupert Grint and Tom Felton try out their best American accents, Josh is back with another hilarious and illuminating -- and this time holiday-themed -- "After Hours" special: "Turkey Talk."

Need some last minute tips on how to cook your bird for Thanksgiving? Fear not! In "Turkey Talk," "Faster" stars Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and Billy Bob Thornton generously share their infinite wealth of poultry knowledge with the world.

The duo weighs in on the controversial topics of hands-free basting, what to watch on TV while you're cooking (hint: Billy Bob prefers something a tad more violent than the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade), deep-frying vs. roasting a turkey, and the surprise benefit of killing your bird with your bare hands. Gobble gobble (indeed)! Read More...

Harry Potter and the Deathly HallowsOf all the franchises that have captivated the public imagination over the past couple decades, two of the most popular and beloved have got to be "Lost" and "Harry Potter." Both have stretched the boundaries of what audiences can love to worship, with "Lost" following one long, convoluted storyline over six epic television seasons and "Harry Potter" keeping audiences spellbound over seven novels and soon-to-be eight films.

It's unsurprising that the conclusions of both franchises left fans divided ("Lost" more than "Potter"). But it is surprisingly fitting that it was the most recent "Potter" film, "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 1," that taught "Lost" co-creator Damon Lindelof that you can still be a fan of something while finding points of contention with the material.

More than anyone else involved with "Lost," Lindelof was very outspoken about the fact that if you knocked the way he, Carlton Cuse and co. wrapped up season six of "Lost," you "don't get to call yourself a 'fan.'" But here's where Lindelof learned his mistake, as he wrote in an opinion piece on The Daily Beast. See, he considers himself a "huge Potter fan," but Lindelof hated "Deathly Hallows - Part 1."
