Poor Lindsay Lohan. The girl can't even get a gig as a porn star these days. After a tumultuous past year, Lohan finally looked like she was getting her career back on track by landing the lead role in "Inferno," a biopic about porn star Linda Lovelace.
Director Matthew Wilder even moved production of the film from Louisiana to more expensive Los Angeles back in September to accommodate Lohan. But Deadline reports that Wilder and the "Inferno" gang have finally given up on the troubled actress, tapping "Watchmen" star Malin Akerman as her replacement.
"My understanding is that Lindsay was dropped as she's impossible to insure and the producers loved Malin," an insider told Deadline. Akerman's rep has since confirmed the casting.
Akerman might not have proved her acting prowess in her previous roles (sorry "27 Dresses" and "Couples Retreat") but she certainly has shown that she's willing to take her clothes off for a role (though don't broach the subject like MTV's Josh Horowitz did). But Akerman does feel like the perfect fit for the role, and probably an even better choice than Lohan was. She is attached to several other upcoming projects -- "Wanderlust," "Happythankyoumoreplease," "The Bang Bang Club" and "The Numbers Station" -- that should also show her range as an actress and earn her a bit more cred than her previous films have. We're glad she's taking on the challenge.
Still, it's a bit of a bummer that Lohan has lost what looked to be a golden opportunity get her acting career back on track. When Wilder spoke with MTV in September, he said: "We love her. We want her to do well... I understand people's exasperation. I share it. But there is a tremendous gift underneath all the obvious baggage." Apparently these past two months have proved to him that it's just not worth the wait.
Are you disappointed that Lindsay Lohan has been dropped from "Inferno"? Do you think Malin Akerman will be a good replacement?
