When Chelsea Handler and 50 Cent were spotted enjoying each others' company at a New Orleans jazz club this past weekend, rumors that the comedian and rapper-actor were dating came fast and furious. Just as fast (but not quite so furious) came Handler's denial via Twitter (naturally) that she and Fiddy were an item. "Everyone, calm down," she tweeted on Wednesday night. "I met with Mr. Cent about a potential project. There's nothing to report yet, I'll let you know if there is."

Honestly, we really don't care whether Handler and, um, Mr. Cent are dating -- if they are, more power to 'em -- but the idea of them teaming up for a "potential project" is utterly fascinating. Could it be a music video? A duet? Or -- and please let this be the case -- a movie? If it is a movie, would it be a comedy, drama, romance, actioner or... erotic thriller? Whatever the case, we've got a few ideas for movie remakes -- from "Batman & Robin" (seriously, they'd be awesome as the dynamic duo) to "Pulp Fiction" (can't you just see Handler playing an assassin who gets killed while on the toilet?) -- that would suit the two of them just smashingly.

Matt Damon and Ben Affleck"Good Will Hunting" reunion, baby! How would you like them apples?

Hopefully, you wouldn't mind 'em... because it looks like "Hunting" co-stars and real-life best buds Ben Affleck and Matt Damon, along with Ben's younger bro Casey Affleck, are indeed reteaming to make "The Trade," a based-on-real-life tale of Fritz Peterson and Mike Kekich, two 1970s Yankees pitchers who swapped wives (classy, fellas).

News that Damon and Affleck might join forces for the film first broke back in February, when Deadline revealed that the pals would potentially don the pinstripes to star as the two pitchers, with Affleck directing from a script by "Curb Your Enthusiasm" exec producer David Mandel.

When MTV News caught up with the elder Affleck at the junket for his stellar heist thriller "The Town," however, Ben imparted that while all three are most definitely still involved in the project, some of the specifics have changed. For instance? The Affleck brothers are currently collaborating on a rewrite of the script, they're not sure who'll be playing the spouse-swapping hurlers, and, perhaps most interestingly, Damon might direct the thing. What's good enough for Tom Hanks is evidently good enough for Johnny Depp, as the "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides" star has joined the list of prospective lead actors for Kathryn Bigelow's "Hurt Locker" follow-up "Sleeping Dogs." The film was first publicly referred to as "Triple Frontier," but "Sleeping Dogs" seems to be the standard name now. Whatever it's called, Bigelow's aiming high in terms of star power.

The film about organized crime along the borders of Paraguay, Argentina and Brazil has five big roles and two really big roles, one of which Depp could see himself playing, according to sources speaking to Deadline. As anyone who's seen Depp's current list of rumored and pre-production projects knows, however, he has a thick stack of work on his schedule that would require time travel and cloning to complete. He's reportedly open to finding a way to make Bigelow's film work, but it doesn't sound like it's going to be easy. Read More...

Sandra BullockLast year, Sandra Bullock scored the two biggest box-office hits of her career, "Alfonso Cuarón's 3-D space thriller "Gravity."

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Bullock is in negotiations to star opposite Robert Downey Jr. in the film that has already seen a bevy of beautiful A-list actresses come and go.

Originally set up as a star vehicle for Angelina Jolie, Brangelina's poutier-lipped half departed the flick when Warner Bros. reportedly balked at her $20 mil salary. This summer, the studio talked to Marion Cotillard, screen-tested Scarlett Johansson and Blake Lively, then shifted their gaze back to Jolie. None of this yielded a leading lady, so WB started talks with Natalie Portman, who's garnering the strongest buzz of her career for the upcoming psychological thriller "Black Swan." Read More...

Halo: ReachHollywood hasn't had much luck turning the "Halo" video game series into a big-screen blockbuster franchise -- attempts at making the film in 2005 and 2006 resulted in nada. But thanks to the phenomenal success of the latest installment of the game, "Halo: Reach" -- it made $200 million in its first day of sales alone, which is more than many blockbuster movies make in their entire run -- a big-screen adaptation is once again picking up steam. New York Magazine's Vulture blog is reporting that DreamWorks is desperately seeking to obtain rights to the franchise with an eye to final give it is big-screen due.

It's something that both Fox and Universal, in a team effort, tried and failed to do in the past. The movie was supposed to be made with Peter Jackson as producer and Neil Blomkamp as director. But when studio brass balked at the idea of an untested director handling such an important big-budget property, Jackson and Blomkamp took their remaining financing and conceptual art and focused on making Blomkamp's dream project "District 9" instead (yes, that's why the prawns look so similar to some of "Halo"'s aliens). It's conceivable that the fact that "District 9" was made on such a small budget and yet was such a successful sci-fi film has contributed to DreamWorks' revived interest in "Halo." Read More...

Alex MerazRandy Moss will be leaving a few fans behind in New England now that he's been traded back to Minnesota, and that includes his self-proclaimed biggest fan "ever" Donnie Wahlberg. Wahlberg's holding it together, but his twitter account has been linked to down below if you want to give him some support.

In movie news, if you're a fan of the "Twilight" series and feel like you haven't been able to see enough of actor Alex Meraz, you should probably go see his upcoming flick "Never Back Down 2," since it required him to film his first on-screen sex scene. Get the details after the jump. There, you'll also find out who's been hearing Kenny Powers lines at parties and what Michael Caine had to say to a fan on the subject of death.

Dorothy Kramer in Savage CountyIn advance of the world premiere of his new slasher flick "Savage County" on MTV2 this Thursday, October 7, at 11 p.m. (10 p.m. Central), director David Harris has been guest-blogging on MTV News to share some thoughts on making the film. He talked about marketing the movie in yesterday's post, and today he offers up some horror-movie-making tips. Come back tomorrow for his third and final blog.

I want to make another movie for all kinds of reasons: It's my dream to be a director... Maybe I'll make money at it someday... I want to have one of those chairs with my name on the back... But, more than anything, I want to make another movie because I learned so much the first time around that it seems like a waste not to use that knowledge.

Making movies is now what having a band used to be. A lot of people do it, and with digital cameras everywhere, it's an accessible way to express yourself. Everybody from Hitchcock to Tarantino has excellent advice on the creative process that's only a Google search away. There's nothing I can impart about the art of filmmaking that comes close to them, BUT I'm pretty sure I have some practical advice on making your first horror movie that they couldn't give you.

Here are my top five tips:

1. Pack a Flashlight
Scouting locations for a horror movie is very much like being in a horror movie. Everyone who knows of a scary, horrible place will suggest you visit -- whether it fits your movie or not. Scouting "Savage County," we found ourselves knee-deep in water in an abandoned basement autopsy room/morgue/body incinerator. Did we bring a flashlight? Nope. We used the flash on a digital camera to light up the room every couple of feet. It was straight out of "Quarantine." Flashlights are cheap; we were dumb. Read More...

TransformersWhen it comes to "Transformers," there usually is more than meets the eye. But in this case, what you see is what you get: The title of the third installment in Michael Bay's robot franchise is "Transformers: The Dark of the Moon" (apparently "Transformers: The One Without Megan Fox" is a no-go).

TFW first broke the news when it noticed that a trio of "Transformers" novels are currently available for pre-order on Amazon. The books, which will be released May 17, 2011, bear the titles: "Transformers: The Dark of the Moon - Secret of the Autobots," "Transformers: The Dark of the Moon – Autobots Betrayed!," and "Transformers: The Dark of the Moon: Invasion of the Decepticons." Subsequent sleuthing on the website's part found that Paramount/DreamWorks has already registered the domain TransformersTheDarkOfTheMoonMovie.com, and Collider says it has confirmed the title with sources close to the production. MTV News has reach out to Paramount for comment, and we'll bring you any update when we have it. Read More...

CarrieApparently today is the day for weird film-to-Broadway news. First up is "Sister Act," which EW.com says is primed to take its act to the Great White Way beginning April 20, 2011. This news is somewhat understandable, as the 1992 film starring Whoopi Goldberg was a box-office hit, and a musical adaptation is already enjoying a lucrative run in London's West End.

On the stranger end of the stick, Deadline has confirmed that a revival of "Carrie" the musical is in the works. No, not Carrie as in the "Sex and the City" leading lady (which would actually make some sense), but Carrie as in the vengeful main character of Stephen King's book, it's acclaimed 1976 movie adaptation and its not-so-acclaimed 1988 Broadway musical version (which lost $8 million dollars in its short run).

Add that to the planned "Little Miss Sunshine" musical that was announced over the summer, the confirmed Julie Taymor "Spider-man" musical and even a Broadway version of "The Notebook," and we've got a really random array of films making their way to Broadway and not enough musicals crossing over into Hollywood (I'm looking at you, "Wicked"). Here are some films that we hope never get the musical treatment. Read More...
