If you ever entertained thoughts that it might be Naomi Watts -- and not Viggo Mortensen -- engaging in a nude spa fight in "Eastern Promises 2," you probably want to go ahead and manage those expectations. "Eastern Promises" director David Cronenberg revealed last March that a sequel to his 2007 crime thriller is indeed in the works, but sadly Ms. Watts will not be reprising her role as Anna, the London midwife whose discovery of an implicating diary put her in the cross hairs of the Russian mob.
We heard as much from Watts herself when we caught up with the actress to chat about her upcoming Valerie Plame film "Fair Game." "I don't think I'm in it," Watts laughed when asked if she'd read the "Eastern Promises 2" script. "Nobody called, so I guess they recast or maybe created a new role for a more attractive, younger girl." Read more...

With the November 19 release of "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 1" very quickly approaching, we Potterheads are torn between uncontrollable excitement and trepidation-bordering-on-sadness, due to the fact that this film brings us a little bit closer to the End. Of. It. All. However, conflicting emotions aside, we are happy to report that Warner Bros. has released seven (appropriate number, no?), count 'em seven, brand new character posters, available for you viewing pleasure at ComingSoon.net.
If you needed any more proof that David Yates, Daniel Radcliffe and Co. are absolutely going for broke with these final films, these new prints should do the trick. From the unflinching, determined gazes of our heroes (Harry, Ron, Hermione), to the cold, calculated expressions of the villains (Voldemort, Bellatrix, Greyback) -- Snape could fall into either category, don't you think? -- we have to give major kudos to the WB marketing team for fully embracing such a fantastically ominous, foreboding tone.
Accio posters!
What do you think of the new shots? Too dark? Too close? Too much?

Noomi Rapace, a.k.a. the original Swedish "Girl With the Dragon Tattoo," may not have landed the Lisbeth Salander role in the planned U.S. adaptation of the Millennium Trilogy... but she isn't having trouble nabbing meaty roles in other big-budget tentpoles. She's already been cast as the female lead opposite Robert Downey Jr. in "Sherlock Holmes 2," and now comes news that she's a strong candidate to play the E.T.-butt-kicking lead in Ridley Scott's 3-D "Alien" prequel.
According to Deadline, studio 20th Century Fox has also met with actresses Abbie Cornish and Carey Mulligan about the part, but Rapace reportedly left a "strong impression." Read more...

"Jackass 3D" won't be pooping and vomiting its way into theaters until October 15, but Johnny Knoxville already knows that the home video version, slated for release in December, is going to be awesome.
"Man, we filmed so much stuff. So much great stuff got left out of the film because we just overshot," Knoxville explained to MTV News. "That'll be in '[Jackass] 3.5,' coming out at Christmas," he said at the 2010 VMAs.
One can't help but wonder what 3-D stunts were too hot (or wet... or messy...) for the theatrical release, and we're sure whatever the gang cooked up will be completely family-appropriate for holiday DVD viewing. Or not. Read more...

There has been no dearth of "Scream 4" casting news these past few months, with a steady stream of young stars -- Emma Roberts, Adam Brody, Hayden Panettiere, Nico Tortorella, Erik Knudsen, Marley Shelton and Rory Culkin -- lining up alongside series regulars Courteney Cox and David Arquette to fight for their lives (in most cases futilely) in the face of a new spate of Ghostface killings.
In a recent chat with MTV News to discuss his 3-D supernatural thriller "My Soul to Take" (in theaters today), "Scream 4" director Wes Craven gave us a rundown of the fourth installment's plot and revealed whether those new "Scream" trilogy rumors are true.
"The studio wants to be very, very secretive about it," Craven admitted. "I think it's kind of known that Neve is returning to her hometown for a short visit, and all hell breaks loose. But there's also a whole cast of new characters -- there's some very, very interesting kids." Read more...

In advance of the world premiere of his new slasher flick "Savage County" on MTV2 tonight, October 7, at 11 p.m. (10 p.m. Central), director David Harris has been guest-blogging on MTV News to share some thoughts on making the film. He talked about marketing the movie on Tuesday, offered up some horror-movie-making tips yesterday, and today he introduces the up-and-coming cast (like Ana Ayora, pictured to the right).
It's pretty rare for a horror movie to get an Academy Award, and even rarer for that award to go to the cast. (Quick Quiz: Which actors have won Academy Awards for horror movies? Answers at the bottom.)
Even actors who love horror movies have to look elsewhere for their field's top accolades. But horror has been a launching ground for a lot of famous names before they were famous names: Johnny Depp ("Nightmare on Elm Street"), Jennifer Anniston ("Leprechaun"), Mischa Barton ("Sixth Sense") and on and on. It's hard to get a role in any movie, but with their low budgets and brutal filming conditions, horror offers a lot of talented actors their first lead roles.
Our villains got their own teaser trailers, so I'm going to focus on our victims. Here's what you know them from and why you're going to hear a lot more from them in the future... Read more...

Tyrese Gibson hasn't been shy about what he's been up to during "Transformers 3" filming, but he posted a picture today of himself hanging out with someone familiar to us here at Twitter-Wood, GM Vice President of Global Design Ed Welburn, whom I spoke to back at the Chicago Auto Show in 2009.
There were a few other pictures of note in the feed today, too, with Pee-Wee Herman taking a tour of New York City and making friends on the subway. Elsewhere, Chloe Moretz shared a shot of a crocheted Lady Gaga doll that her brother made. You can decide whether or not it actually looks like her after the jump where you'll find Ice-T's micro-review of "My Soul to Take" and which actresses Tom Hanks referred to as "foxes."
I'm @brianwarmoth, and this is Twitter-Wood for October 7, 2010. Read more...

The term "It Girl" gets tossed around a lot, but there's really no other way to describe Chloe Moretz, the precocious 13-year-old who first caught our eye as Joseph Gordon-Levitt's sage younger sis in "(500) Days of Summer," kicked some serious ass as the foul-mouthed Hit Girl in "Kick-Ass" and can currently be seen vamping it up (literally) in "Let Me In." But you know how we know that she's really made it? Because legendary director Martin Scorsese recently cast her in "Hugo Cabret," an epic adventure tale that marks his first go at 3-D filmmaking.
While chatting with Moretz about "Let Me In" last week, MTV News got a chance to ask the mature, intelligent teen about her role in "Cabret," what her experience has been filming the movie in London for the past three months, and whether co-star Sacha Baron Coen is anything like his big-screen thong-wearing alter-egos.
"It's a film about a boy named Hugo Cabret [played by Asa Butterfield], who's basically a street urchin, and he loses his father. His father dies. And he goes to live with his uncle who's a drunk and runs the clocks in a Paris train station," Moretz explained of the film, which is based on Brian Selznick's 2007 novel "The Invention of Hugo Cabret."
