It was wild times indeed this past weekend at New York's Javits Center, where fanboys and fangirls -- many of them dressed like Chewbaccas, Predators, Princess Leias, Super Marios and N'avi warriors -- showed up in droves of thousands to geek out about comics, movies, TV and anime at New York Comic Con 2010. I was there with the rest of the MTV News crew to enjoy it in all of it's costume-clad splendor... and to interview as many actors, directors and comics masterminds as possible.
In case you found yourself occupied by football or Division Series baseball, or just simply forgot to check MTV Movies Blog this weekend (for shame), here's a little recap of what you missed and what else we've got coming down the pike from NYCC 2010. Read more...

Disney announced in March that it plans to shut down Robert Zemeckis' digital animation studio. Apparently "A Christmas Carol" — and its lackluster domestic box office showing — will be one of the studio's swan songs (get excited for "Mars Needs Moms," people!). Yet the closure, so it seems, will have no bearing on the status of "Yellow Submarine," Zemeckis' 3-D motion-capture reinvention of the classic Beatles cartoon.
"That will be going in April of next year, so we're gearing up for that," star Cary Elwes, who will be voicing the role of George Harrison, told MTV News at New York Comic Con, where he was promoting "Saw 3D."
Elwes is not only set to voice Harrison but will slip on that rather flattering mo-cap outfit to play the role. "It's more than a voice. We actually have to perform the roles," he said. "If you know much about motion-capture, it's not just voice-over work. You really have to perform the role." Read more...

"The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers" returned to the silver screen at Radio City Music Hall this October 8 and 9 for a special two-night-only engagement. The best part? The screenings featured a live symphony orchestra playing the entire score along with the movie. Ludwig Wicki conducted the orchestra, which included over 300 musicians from the 21st Century Symphony Orchestra, the Brooklyn Youth Choir and Dessoff Symphonic Choir.
Now after seeing the film with live musical accompaniment, I have to say this is what a 3-D movie should be like. Forget about cool special effects jumping out at you. Having the orchestra perched directly beneath the screen and playing the score to perfection added another layer of emotion to the film to accompany the already eye-popping 2-D visuals. The "Two Towers" soundtrack is amazing alone, but hearing it performed live in person gives you a greater appreciation for both the music and the movie. Read more...

Last week, director Todd Phillips confirmed a few bare-bones details about his sequel to The Hangover," the 2008 film that launched the stars of Bradley Cooper and Zach Galifianakis and went on to become the highest-grossing R-rated comedy of all time. "It takes place in Bangkok and L.A.," Phillips said, adding, "There's gonna be some f--ked-up surprises."
Today, we have our first look at "The Hangover 2" in the form of a photo from the Ontario, California, set. The pic shows our boys Cooper, Galifianakis, Ed Helms and Justin Bartha getting ready to hop a plane to Thailand from the Ontario Airport. (Yeah, we know we said the film is set in Bangkok and L.A. -- Ontario Airport doubles for LAX).
In addition to proving that production on the film is underway, the image is also notable in that it confirms that Justin Bartha -- whose involvement in the picture had heretofore been only a rumor -- is indeed on board for part deux. Check out the "Hangover 2" photo after the jump. Read more...

David O. Russell might not be exploring the zombie genre with "Pride and Prejudice and Zombies," but that's not to say he won't check out other areas of the action adventure world.
Specifically, the director has signed on to bring "Uncharted: Drake's Fortune" to the big screen, becoming the latest filmmaker to spearhead a major video game turned film franchise. Based on the 2007 video game of the same name, "Drake's Fortune" follows Nathan Drake, a descendent of the pirate and explorer Francis Drake, as he searches for the treasure of El Dorado.
"Uncharted" is undoubtedly a solid choice for a film adaptation, but there are a number of other video game franchises out there deserving of the big screen treatment. After the jump, check out five video games we'd love to see as movies! Read more...

The teaser trailer for the Vince Vaughn-Kevin James comedy "The Dilemma" caused quite an uproar recently, when Anderson Cooper and Ellen DeGeneres voiced their objections to footage in which Vaughn's character uses the word "gay" in a derogatory fashion. Wisely, Universal Pictures issued a public mea culpa, stating: "The teaser trailer for 'The Dilemma' was not intended to cause anyone discomfort. In light of growing claims that the introduction to the trailer is insensitive, it is being replaced."
True to their word, Universal has yanked the teaser and released a three-minute-long theatrical trailer that is 100 percent free of gay jokes, apparently having replaced them with the plot of the entire movie. Yep, while it is entertaining -- we especially like (and simultaneously are made uncomfortable by) the part where Queen Latifah talks about getting intimate with the hood of a car -- the trailer gives away quite a bit about where the movie's going.
In a nutshell, here's what the trailer tells us: Vaughn and James play best pals whose bromance is jeopardized when Vaughn witnesses James' wife (Winona Ryder) getting it on with a younger, more "G.I. Joe"-looking guy (Channing Tatum) and must decide whether to tell his buddy. Read more...

"Three Kings" and "I Heart Huckabees" director David O. Russell leaked out as one of Sony's picks to helm an "Uncharted" movie adaptation earlier this year. That report has now been corroborated, as Russell and Columbia Pictures have reached an agreement to put him on the project and make "Uncharted: Drake's Fortune" more than just a PlayStation 3 game.
"David is a tremendous choice to take on this film," Columbia president Matt Tolmache said in a statement, according to The Hollywood Reporter. "He's equally adept at combining all the classic elements involved in this property: great character development, strong comedy and amazing action sequences. He has a brilliant vision for this material and we know he will bring his original, unique voice to this adaptation." Read more...

When studio execs green light a movie like "Predators," they're usually not thinking of it as a one-off; they've got franchise on the mind... which is why it was no surprise that the ending of this summer's man-vs.-alien reboot left the door wide freaking open for a sequel (or sequels).
"I think it's done well enough to justify [a sequel] for sure," star Adrien Brody told MTV News while promoting the movie's DVD release at New York Comic Con. It would seem that it has. The film cost a reported $45 million to make, and raked in $52.9 million domestically and $125 mil worldwide.
"I think the goal initially was to make a film that is worthy of [a franchise]," Brody said. "The film is even structured that way... to kick in for another one. I'd be excited. I'd be excited to do it. I think that was part of the allure." Read more...

Natalie Portman is beautiful? According to her "Your Highness" co-stars Danny McBride and Justin Theroux, this is a little-known fact about the actress.
When McBride and Theroux stopped by MTV News' skybox at New York Comic Con, they joked that they had to convince studio brass that Portman was beautiful enough to be in the film, a raunchy medieval comedy in which two princes, one heroic (James Franco) and the other lazy (McBride), team up to save their father's kingdom. "A lot of people don't know this, but Natalie Portman is very beautiful," McBride deadpanned when asked how Portman came aboard the project.
Adds Theroux: "I had said to Danny, 'You know who we should get for that part? Natalie Portman because she's hot.' And then people were like, 'I don't know.' And I said, 'Mark my words, Natalie Portman is going to be beautiful in this film, and she is a beautiful person. And the studio was like, 'Well, I don't know if we can clean her up.'" Read more...

It's hard to believe it's been nine years since Derek Zoolander unleashed "Blue Steel" upon the world, but at long last the brain-cell-challenged supermodel is primed for a comeback: A script for "Zoolander 2" is almost complete, and Ben Stiller and co. could be beautifying the big-screen again sometime in 2012.
Justin Theroux, who is co-writing the script with Stiller and plans to direct, told MTV News as much while at New York Comic Con promoting the raunchy medieval comedy "Your Highness." The script is in good shape right now," he said. "I'm feeling very optimistic about it. We're doing a few little tweaks before we submit it, but I'm very hopeful that I'm going to be working on that soon."
Theroux and Stiller aren't the only ones who'll (potentially) be working on it. Owen Wilson is set to reprise his role as Zoolander's rival-turned-pal Hansel. And Theroux -- who you may remember as the evil DJ who break-dance-fought Hansel in the first film -- says the screenplay paves the way for the return of Will Ferrell's Mugatu and the introduction of a new character played by Jonah Hill.
