There hasn't been a whole lot of good news lately for the adaptation of the popular literary-horror crossover "Pride and Prejudice and Zombies." Director David O. Russell ("Three Kings") was set to helm, but recently bailed to take the reins of "Uncharted: Drake's Fortune." And Natalie Portman, who'd been attached to star, stepped down, though she remains involved in a producer role (is there anything this Harvard-educated beauty can't do?).
But suddenly things are looking up. Deadline reports that Scarlett Johansson is potentially on tap to play leading lady Elizabeth Bennett to Bradley Cooper's Mr. Darcy. And, according to Slash Film, directors Neil Marshall ("Doomsday"), David Slade ("The Twilight Saga: Eclipse"), and Mike Newell ("Prince of Persia") are circling the project. Read more...

It's been a long process bringing Baz Luhrmann's version of "The Great Gatsby" to the big screen, but actual progress seems to be underway. TheWrap got the scoop that Leonardo DiCaprio and his best friend Tobey Maguire were in Manhattan last weekend to workshop the adaptation with Luhrmann.
DiCaprio has long been rumored to play the titular Jay Gatsby, but this is the first we've heard of Maguire being considered for the role of narrator Nick Carraway. In addition, TheWrap has also learned that "The Town" star Rebecca Hall read for the main female role of Daisy Buchanan. Read more...

Bootlegs... we don't need no stinkin' bootlegs. One day after a grainy version of the "Scream 4" teaser trailer (shot with a mobile phone at Saturday's taping of Spike's 2010 Scream Awards, where the trailer debuted) hit the Interwebs, a pristine official version has emerged for the world's viewing pleasure. In addition to being astronomically easier on the eyes, the new video offers additional footage not seen in the leaked clip and showcases beloved "Scream" regulars Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, David Arquette and Ghostface, as well as an eager crop of franchise newbies such as Emma Roberts, Hayden Panettiere and Rory Culkin.
Seeing as it's been 10 years since a new "Scream" film graced the silver screen, Culkin's character is kind enough to tell fans how the rules of horror flicks have changed in the interim. For starters, "the kill has to be, like, way more extreme" (cue screaming woman plummeting to her demise atop a news truck). Also, virgins aren't safe (cut to Ghostface chasing scantily clad virgin around her bedroom). And, as the bootleg "Scream 4" trailer proves, everything these days is caught on tape, so the killer should be filming his handiwork (see Courteney Cox discover a camcorder just prior to a run-in with Mr. Ghostface). A potential sequel to "True Lies" is one of those James Cameron projects that might not always be in the forefront of everyone's mind nowadays -- what with the "Avatar" sequel, recent "Terminator" reboot, "Titanic" 3-D transformation, and that rumored 3-D "Cleopatra" movie with Angelina Jolie -- but interest in the project never seems to fade. In fact, fans have been clamoring for a sequel to the 1994 original, which starred Arnold Schwarzenegger as a boring dad/badass spy, Jamie Lee Curtis as his wife and a very youngEliza Dushku as their daughter.
Last year Cameron pretty definitively said there wouldn't be a "True Lies 2," but only last month it was announced that a Cameron-produced "True Lies" television series was being developed.
On Friday, I had the opportunity to chat with Dushku about the recently released "Dollhouse" season two DVD and Blu-Ray, and she set the record straight about "True Lies 2." Read more...

"Breaking Dawn" is gearing up for production right now, but its leading lady Kristen Stewart is involved in another literary adaptation that's getting its own share of buzz. During her off time from "Twilight," Stewart filmed a big screen version of Jack Kerouac's Beat Generation classic "On The Road," helmed by "The Motorcycle Diaries" director Walter Salles.
While promoting her latest indie, "Welcome to the Rileys," Stewart told MTV that throughout the filming of "On The Road" she never was able to shake her nervousness at adapting such a well-regarded book. "I would turn around in the car like every single day and show Walter my hand and it would be like [shaking] and he'd be like, 'Good, that it is how I want you to be'," she said. "No, [the nerves] never went away." Read more...

The next time audiences see Robert Downey Jr. portray Tony Stark/Iron Man, he'll be sharing the spotlight with a rabble crew of superheroes in "The Avengers" (in theaters May 4, 2012). But let's face it, Stark has never been one for sharing the spotlight. He needs his own movie. Luckily, RDJ and his big-screen alter-ego(s) are getting just that: "Iron Man 3" has been given an official release date of May 3, 2013.
The news was revealed in a press release from Disney, which acquired Marvel Entertainment last year and is gradually taking over rights to all the company's properties. Disney will start by distributing writer-director Joss Whedon's "Avengers" in 2012 and do the same for 2013's "Iron Man 3" (Disney paid Paramount Pictures the nifty sum of $115 mil for the rights to these). However, Paramount will still distribute both "Thor" and "Captain America," which are being released on May 6 and July 22 of 2011, respectively.
For more on the Disney-Paramount deal, check out MTV Splash Page. In the meantime, cue up ACDC's "Back in Black" and get pumped for some more Iron Man awesomeness.

Already a science fiction icon thanks to her role in the "Aliens" franchise, Sigourney Weaver added another notch to her sci-fi belt with "Avatar," bringing all of the intellect, warmth, humor and gravitas we've come to expect from the actress to her portrayal of Dr. Grace Augustine, a scientist studying the flora and fauna of Pandora.
But sadly, Grace was one of the many characters who didn't make it to the end of "Avatar," leaving one to assume that Weaver would not have a role to play in the eventual "Avatar" sequels. But you know what they say about assumptions — and if you don't, Weaver is here to remind you.
"It's always a mistake in science fiction to make these judgments on the dead," Weaver coyly told MTV News during a phone interview this weekend. Should we take that to mean that Grace hasn't slipped into the great beyond with Eywa just yet? Read more...

We here at MTV News take journalism seriously. That's why Josh Horowitz has always been nothing but the consummate professional during the shoots for our star-studded "After Hours" series. When Steve Carell sat on Josh's lap for an interview, Josh politely welcomed it. When Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg threatened him with knives, he (fearfully) let it slide. When he got caught on an escalator with M. Night Shyamalan and clothing-averse Penthouse Pet Ryan Keeley, he looked Keeley in the chest and told her it would be alright. And, when a pedicab ride with Malin Akerman got uncomfortable, he refused to hurl himself from the speeding vehicle.
But nothing could have prepared Josh -- or you, the viewers -- for his encounter with "Tropic Thunder" and "Your Highness" star Danny McBride during the latest "After Hours" special, "Impressions." What began as a friendly discussion about painting quickly spiraled out of control: Wigs came out, pants came off, unspeakable things were spoken... all in the name of journalism and art. Watch the video below (if you dare).

It's been a good few days for "Harry Potter" fans craving some nice new visuals to make the next month and one day until "Deathly Hallows: Part 1" a little easier. There were those awesome new posters last week and there's a new sneak peek at the film premiering during the airing of Spike's Scream Awards tomorrow night... but on top of both of those an extended television spot premiered on Cartoon Network last night during the Scooby-licious movie "Scooby Doo and the Lake Monster."
There really isn't too much new in the teaser, and by that I mean there are only three brief glimpses of anything new. There's a good shot of Bellatrix Lestrange about to fire off her wand at 0:23 and a better shot of the deathly hallows during the same second that's clearer than what we've seen previously, another shot of Minister of Magic Rufus Scrimgeour walking up to the Weasley's at 0:24, and then a shot of Mad-Eye Moody avoiding being hit by a thestral at 1:09. Fortunately, that kickass new voiceover makes up for the lack of new footage. Read more...

"Jackass 3D" shattered expectations this weekend with a $50 million opening frame, setting the record for biggest October opening ever, and it did so on the relatively minuscule reported budget of $20 million. Most of the film's stunts are low-tech to be sure: It doesn't cost much to have a bison charge headfirst into Johnny Knoxville's man parts... or for Steve-O and Dave England to play tetherball with a buzzing beehive... or for the group to "duck-hunt" one of their own with BB guns. But some of the sequences seem like they could be a bit on the expensive side, especially when you factor in resulting hospital bills.
One such scene depicts Ryan Dunn sitting in a rather comfy leather chair as an L-39 fighter jet fires up its engines directly in front of him. What starts off as a strong breeze gradually builds to end-of-the-world hurricane-type winds that launch Dunn from his chair and send him rolling backward like a rag doll. That's just the beginning, as subsequent experiments included jackasses wandering into the jet stream while wearing a base-jumping wing suit and carrying a waiter's tray piled with food.
We wondered how much it might cost to reenact such a sequence (you know, in case we wanted to try in our spare time), so we dug in and did some research. Check out the results after the jump. Read more...
