Entertainment reporters interview celebrities — it's in the job description. Sometimes these interviews go incredibly well, and sometimes they go incredibly poorly. Sometimes, they fall into a no man's land of awkwardness that few people are likely to encounter in their lifetime.
Gordon Keith's interview with Zach Galifianakis falls into the latter category. But beyond being an extremely uncomfortable exchange, it's also a hilarious one.
Keith, a Texas radio and television personality, had the opportunity to sit down with "The Hangover" star during a press junket promoting Galifianakis' latest film, "It's Kind of a Funny Story." But rather than asking the comedian about the nuances of the film and the subtle crafting of his character Bobby, Keith instead opted to focus on other details, like Galifianakis' tendency to wear itchy sweaters and the unique fragrance of co-star Emma Roberts.
Yes, really. Just check out the interview for yourself after the jump.
Before you go thinking that this interview was a phenomenal trainwreck, it should be noted that this wasn't a case of Keith being thrown completely off the rails by Galifianakis' mere presence — instead, as Keith explains on his blog, the interviewer was simply trying to have a good time with the actor.
"Zach Galifianakis is brilliant, and a damn fine actor. No, he was not 'in' on it. There was no 'in,'" he writes. "I suck as an interviewer, hence I throw them comedic softballs that they can hit outta the park. I thought Zach did just that. 'Don’t forget to smell Emma' is my new ringtone."
Given Galifianakis' stint as the host of reigning awkward talk show Between Two Ferns, it's hard to imagine that the comedian didn't appreciate having the tables turned on him. If nothing else, it must have been an amusing way to break up the occasionally monotonous press cycle that film workers tend to go through.
