The next time audiences see Robert Downey Jr. portray Tony Stark/Iron Man, he'll be sharing the spotlight with a rabble crew of superheroes in "The Avengers" (in theaters May 4, 2012). But let's face it, Stark has never been one for sharing the spotlight. He needs his own movie. Luckily, RDJ and his big-screen alter-ego(s) are getting just that: "Iron Man 3" has been given an official release date of May 3, 2013.
The news was revealed in a press release from Disney, which acquired Marvel Entertainment last year and is gradually taking over rights to all the company's properties. Disney will start by distributing writer-director Joss Whedon's "Avengers" in 2012 and do the same for 2013's "Iron Man 3" (Disney paid Paramount Pictures the nifty sum of $115 mil for the rights to these). However, Paramount will still distribute both "Thor" and "Captain America," which are being released on May 6 and July 22 of 2011, respectively.
