Tom Hanks and Kathryn Bigelow have Oscar power flowing through their veins, and they're reportedly in talks to put it together in the director's "Hurt Locker" follow-up "Sleeping Dogs" (formerly titled "Triple Frontier") Hanks is said to be undecided about one of the five lead roles for the film centered around organized crime in the border zone shared by Paraguay, Argentina and Brazil. Hanks might have to share a few headlines, but an alliance between these two would have to catch the Academy's attention before the film even hits theaters.
No one has made Hanks an offer yet, according to inside sources speaking to Deadline, but things are moving fast, as filming is scheduled to start sometime next year.
"The Hurt Locker" is still fresh in a lot of minds, yet it's been 15 years since Hanks took home a that little gold guy named Oscar for his performance in "Forrest Gump." He may be totally content to let it share a mantel with its twin from "Philadelphia," but if he's considering another run to remind everyone about why those awards are there, "Sleeping Dogs" sounds like it could be an appropriate vehicle.
Hopefully it will also mean more crazy on-set Twitter picture posts, too, which were a daily thing for awhile during "Larry Crowne" production. He's at the point in his career where he can pretty much do anything he wants (and does), however, so at the end of the day it's probably his call. He's got our vote to jump on it though.
