If you're among the "TRON" fans itching to re-enter "The Grid" on December 17 when "TRON: Legacy" hits theaters, we've got some stellar news for you: MTV was in attendance last night when Disney offered a sneak peek at 20+ minutes of footage from the film... and it did not disappoint. WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD!
Fans and members of the press were treated to five scenes, some in 3-D and some not, all from the first half of the film. First up was a 2-D scene that starts out the apartment of Sam Flynn (Garrett Hedlund), son to long-missing software developer Kevin Flynn (Jeff Bridges)... who'll you should remember as the guy who got sucked into and trapped inside his own video game in the 1982 original. Fans seemed pretty pumped when Bruce Boxleitner, reprising his role as Kevin's good pal Alan Bradley, popped up to tell Sam he just received a mysterious page from Kevin's old arcade that could have only come from Kevin himself. Sam goes to check it out and -- shocker -- gets himself sucked into the game as well. Read more...

The cast of "Community" kept their tweet feeds lively last night with a few behind-the-scenes shots from their Halloween episode. It butted heads schedule-wise with Game 2 of the World Series, though, where Rose McGowan returned once again to support the Giants, prompting Alyssa Milano to ask why she wasn't a baseball fan when they worked together on "Charmed."
Elsewhere, Eli Roth was amused by the Charlie Chaplin time traveler theories that have been floating around. You'll find his thoughts along with pics of 50 Cent with Robert Redford and Sarah Silverman having a good time with Kathy Griffin after the jump.

Yesterday, horror-movie maestro Wes Craven revealed his favorite scary movies on MTV Movies Blog; today, as another special Halloween treat, writer-director-producer Frank Darabont divulges his terrifying faves. And he knows a thing or two about horror: While Darabont is most famous for adapting the screenplays for the Stephen King dramas "The Shawshank Redemption" and "The Green Mile," he also co-wrote scripts for 1987's "Nightmare on Elm Street: Dream Warriors," 1988's "The Blob" and "The Fly 2," and 1994's "Frankenstein," and he wrote and directed 2007's surprisingly chilling "The Mist" (also based on a King novel). Plus, he recently teamed with uber-producer Gale Anne Hurd ("Aliens," the "Terminator" films, "The Abyss") to create the highly buzzed-about new zombie series, "The Walking Dead," which fittingly debuts on Sunday, Halloween night, on AMC.
MTV News caught up with Darabont and Hurd at New York Comic Con, where they engaged in a lively discussion about their horror-movie standbys. "My sort of traditional Halloween movie viewing experience starts with 'Night of the Living Dead' and then 'The Exorcist,'" Darabont said. "And then I usually wrap it up with 'Count Yorga, Vampire.'" Halloween is nigh, folks, and that means it's time to strip naked, paint yourself blue and go trick-or-treating as one of those Na'vi people from "Avatar." Or you could not shower for a couple days, grow out a homeless-man beard and celebrate the holiday by paying homage to Joaquin Phoenix's "I'm Still Here" alter-ego. Or, if you feel weird doing any of that, Halloween is also a fantastic time to dig out your favorite scary DVDs for a horror movie marathon.
But what will you watch? John Carpenter's original "Halloween"? Wes Craven's insomnia-inducing "A Nightmare on Elm Street"? Or something a little more current, like a "Paranormal Activity" or "Saw 37"?
Horror fans are a very particular bunch, loyally devoted to the films they love and willing to vehemently argue the cause for why their favorite slasher, thriller or scary movie is the best of all time. So, rather than slap up a top-10 list of our own favorite horror flicks -- thus giving everyone the opportunity to rip us apart Freddy Krueger/Jason Vorhees/Michael Myers-style -- we're simply going to let you guys duke it out amongst yourselves. So vote for your favorite scary movie of all time in our poll, and then hit the comments to make a case for WHY it's the most terrifying, gory and downright bloody awesome movie ever! Read more...

Demons, exorcisms and Hannibal Lecter as a priest -- oh my! Just in time for Halloween, MTV has scored an exclusive photo from the supernatural thriller "The Rite," which is planning to scare the everliving bejeesus out of audiences everywhere come January 28, 2011.
Colin O'Donoghue stars as Michael Kovak, a skeptical seminary student who reluctantly attends exorcism school at the Vatican. There, he finds his beliefs challenged by a Roman Catholic priest named Father Lucas -- played with usual gusto by Sir Anthony Hopkins -- whose rather unique teaching methods introduce Michael to the darker side of faith and, apparently, quite a few demons... one of which they're attempting to extract in the photo below.

If the idea of a Vatican-run exorcism school sounds unlikely, consider this: The film is based on Matt Baglio's 2009 book "The Making of a Modern Day Exorcist," which chronicles the author's real-life experiences while attending a one-month Vatican exorcism seminar in 2007. Scared yet? Read more...

It seems like a little "Mad Max: Fury Road" reunion is going on in the casting department of "Snow White and the Huntsman." JustJared got the scoop that Charlize Theron is being courted to appear in the upcoming adaptation of the classic fairy tale opposite Tom Hardy, her intended co-star from the now-delayed "Mad Max." Theron would play Ravenna, the evil witch who sends a bounty hunter (Hardy) to retrieve the escaped Snow White.
When Hardy was announced as the potential lead earlier this week, the rumor was that Angelina Jolie was being looked at for the role of Ravenna. But considering she hasn't stayed attached to any project for long lately and is intently focusing on her Bosnian-set directorial debut, it's not surprising that the filmmakers behind "Snow White" reevaluated their options. Halloween is the time for the giving of candy, the getting of candy, the stashing away of candy to be nibbled before bed and upon rising. Or, as some might suggest, Halloween is the time for the buying of shots, the guzzling of shots, the... oh, you get the point.
However you plan to celebrate this most devilish of holidays, MTV News has got an early treat as you prep your costumes and stock up on Pepto, because we've made one truly great discovery — a unifying pop culture theory: "Star Trek" and "Roots" star LeVar Burton is at the center of the horror universe.
Trust us, we didn't want to believe it either, but it's true: Every great horror villain is no less than six degrees of separation away from LeVar (in much the same that Kevin Bacon is connected to, um, everyone). Allow us to explain.
Let's say you start with Michael Myers of "Halloween" infamy, and then you pass right through Jamie Lee Curtis and Gwen Van Dam (who also appeared in "Star Trek: Generations"), well, then you run right into LeVar the "Trek" star. Or say you're face-to-face with Leatherface, you turn around, cut right past one-time "Texas Chainsaw" star Dennis Hopper and "Reach for Me"'s Seymour Cassel, and who do you run into? LeVar! Scary, right? Like, chills. Connect the dots for yourself and you won't be able hide from the truth: Chucky leads to Katherine Heigl, who leads to Ron Perlman, who leads to LeVar. Boom!
We don't know what else to say other than that we're entering a brave new world filled with a terrifying knowledge. Try to enjoy those mini-Snickers and Jägerbombs now... now that you know LeVar Burton is inextricably tied to every iconic horror villain ever created. Check out the handy chart below to see how LeVar is the glue that holds the horror-verse together. Read more...

Twenty-five years have passed, and we're happy to know that love for some of the best films of 1985 has stayed strong during that time. I of course am talking about "Back to the Future" and "The Goonies," both of which have been celebrated a lot in the past week. But while "Back to the Future" received two sequels, it is a bit surprising that "The Goonies" didn't get even one. But according to intel Collider got at the press day for "The Goonies" 25th Anniversary DVD, apparently a "Goonies" sequel was closer than any of us realized.
"There have been times up until five years ago where they actually had a script with well-renowned writers working on a great, magnificent script and it just didn’t happen," said star Corey Feldman. "There’s a lot of politics involved but the bottom line, like what Jeff [Cohen] said jokingly, but this is in all essences a treasure trove for Warner Bros. It's their classic family film of all time. So I think we would all be supportive in seeing it happen if there was the right script, if [Richard] Donner was at the helm and [Steven] Spielberg got behind it. Yeah, I'd be there." Read more...

Seven movies in six years. If nothing else, that's an amazing turnaround that the "Saw" franchise should be quite pleased with. Indeed, the seventh entry into the franchise — titled "Saw 3D" — lands in theaters today, once again bringing Jigsaw's terrible torture devices to theatergoers just in time for Halloween!
But after seven films, you'll have to forgive the "Saw" series if it's gotten a little bit, well, convoluted. If you thought it was all about bear trap masks and severed feet, you've been missing out on one heck of a horrifyingly complicated mythology.
But not to worry, we've got your back. After the jump, check out some snapshot synopses of the previous "Saw" films to catch you up in time for "Saw 3D"! Read more...

Back in April of 2009, director Robert Zemeckis broke the exclusive news to MTV that he was planning a sequel to his 1988 live-action/animation hybrid hit "Who Framed Roger Rabbit," about a cartoon-hating detective (working on the script for a sequel, and Zemeckis would employ performance-capture technology and 3-D in filming it. Needless to say, our eyes were popping out of our head, cartoon bunny-style.
But then, nothing on the "Who Framed Roger Rabbit" sequel front for a whole year... until MTV News caught up with Zemeckis this week at a red-carpet event celebrating the 25th anniversary of "Back to the Future."
We asked the director whether Price and Seaman were still typing away at that script, to which he replied: "That is correct, that is true. They're slow," he laughed. Read more...
