I honestly feel a little sorry for Guillermo del Toro whenever he sits down for an interview with MTV News. We're absolutely relentless in our pursuit of casting scoops, and the Mexican-born director is such a freakin' nice guy, it's tough to watch him squirm.

For a while we were pestering del Toro about the actor he wanted to cast as Bilbo Baggins — Martin Freeman? James McAvoy? — in "The Hobbit." He ended up leaving that project in May (perhaps solely so he no longer had to answer our Bilbo questions) and now is deep into pre-production on an adaptation of the H.P. Lovecraft tale, "At the Mountains of Madness." And as soon as del Toro walked into the MTV Newsroom last week, he surely knew he was about to subject himself to more casting-news harassment.

This time the questions centered around Tom Cruise: are Del Toro and Universal really eying the A-lister for "Mountains?" Read more...

FROM SPLASH PAGE: James McAvoy has already revealed that he won't attempt to imitate Patrick Stewart when he steps into the role of Professor Charles Xavier for "X-Men: First Class." Indeed, he wants to bury Stewart's performance entirely. But McAvoy's approach begs an important question: how will his Xavier interact with Michael Fassbender's Magneto?

"I think there's a lot of room there for a real connection," McAvoy told us of his hopes for the relationship between the two "First Class" protagonists. "By the end of that relationship, there's still a kind of affection for each other. You see that in the stuff that Patrick and [Sir Ian McKellen] did together. There's a lot of love there, strangely, I think."

Quick, how many of you know that George Lucas donned blue make-up for a quick cameo in "Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith"? Well he did, and now the legendary filmmaker is bringing back his character, Pantoran Chairman Papanoida, for this Friday's 9 pm ET/PT episode of Cartoon Network's "The Clone Wars."

In the episode, Papanoida's family is kidnapped and held for ransom, leading Ahsoka Tano to team up with Senator Riyo Chuchi to aid the new chairman in recovering his loved ones. Lucasfilm describes the episode as a journey deep into the "dark underbelly" of the Coruscant crime scene, so it should provide its fair share of action. With that in mind, we've got a sneak peek at one of George's scenes, so check it out below.

Daniel Radcliffe on set of 'The Woman in Black'It's hard to believe that filming on the "Harry Potter" film franchise is over after more than a decade, but seeing star Daniel Radcliffe in costume for his new flick "The Woman in Black" certainly nails the point home. UK newspaper The Telegraph has the photograph, which shows the 21-year-old actor clad in Victorian-era clothing and surrounded by cameras.

This will be Radcliffe's third non-"Potter" film ever, and the first he's started filming since principle photography on "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" wrapped. The other two films were 2001's "The Tailor of Panama" and 2007's "December Boys." He is also signed on to an upcoming adaptation of "All Quiet On The Western Front." Read more...

Lindsay Lohan on set of 'Inferno'Though Lindsay Lohan was released from jail on Friday, there is little doubt that court complications will keep her in the Los Angeles area long past her release. Those geographical limitations have now affected Lohan's upcoming Linda Lovelace biopic "Inferno," with the production now moving from Louisiana to Los Angeles to accommodate the troubled star. Sources told TMZ that the decision was made because they "don't want to lose Lindsay for the part."

Director Matthew Wilder confirmed the move to MTV News on Friday. "We love her. We want her to do well," he said. "I think [it] will make things easier on the Lindsay front. I understand people's exasperation. I share it. But there is a tremendous gift underneath all the obvious baggage." Read more...

If it's good to be king, then it's also good to be a college-aged dot-com legend. Such was the case with Napster founder Sean Parker, who after creating the iconic file-sharing website in the late-90s went on to work with Facebook's Mark Zuckerberg on his budding community site.

That little-known relationship is now profiled in David Fincher's "The Social Network," with the increasingly impressive Justin Timberlake taking the role of Parker. In the clip below, we see one of those little side benefits to being a cavalier 20-something, as he attempts to introduce himself to a incredulous one-night-stand. Watch it below and then click here for more clips from "The Social Network," which opens this Friday.

Quentin TarantinoSo, guys, what are you doing next Friday? Nothing? Well, if you're in the general New York area and you've got a significant chunk of change lying around your house, you could find yourself entering the weekend alongside Quentin Tarantino.

The "Inglourious Basterds" filmmaker will be at the mercy of his past and present colleagues at the Friars Club Roast of Quentin Tarantino next Friday (October 1) at the New York Hilton, and thanks to Charity Buzz, you could be among the select few people in the audience watching with glee as Tarantino is torn to shreds (not literally) by Samuel L. Jackson, Kurt Russell, Christopher Walken and other famous faces. Read more...

Some of the tweets were serious and some were less so today, as Stephen Colbert made headlines testifying before a House subcommittee. Pop singer Eddie Fisher's death also resonated in Twitter-Wood, with his daughter Carrie Fisher commemorating him with a post and Alyssa Milano among those sending condolences.

Last night's new episode of "Community" brought some smiles, though, and actress Yvette Nicole Brown shared a look at Donald Glover's Spider-Man duds from her account. Check out what he looked like down below along with David Hasselhoff's words of sympathy for Lindsay Lohan and a shot of Neil Gaiman on the "Doctor Who" set.

"Get Him to the Greek" arrived on DVD and Blu-ray this week in an unrated cut. To celebrate the release, director Nicholas Stoller did a round of interviews. Unable to resist the chance to chat with the man who created the Jeffrey -- not to mention the man who wrote the latest chapter in the continuing adventures of the Muppets -- I set up a chat. Read on to learn what's new in the unrated cut, where the Jeffrey comes from and what makes the real-life Diddy, to use Stoller's own words, "super weird." Read more...

If you've seen the trailers for "The Virginity Hit," you know that the upcoming teen sex comedy revolves around a group of teenage boys trying to get their friend (who's still a virgin) laid. What you might not know is that the film has two very high profile producers in "Funny or Die" founders/comedic dynamic duo Will Ferrell and Adam McKay, and that its subject matter is more "heart and soul" than sex romp.

When we caught up with the film's star, Matt Bennett, recently, he told us that despite the film having earned the description of "American Pie-meets-"Superbad," preview audiences who have screened the film have picked up on its warm fuzzy-not sleazy core.

[The response], it’s been very positive," Bennett told MTV News. "I think it’s great. I’m glad that people are getting that it’s not just another teen sex romp. It’s a film with heart and a bit of a soul and deep-down it’s a cool love story." Read more...
