Alright Potterheads, we're a little more than two months out from the release of "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1" and the promotional machine has started to kick into high gear. We've seen new photos, new interviews and now we have a brand new TV spot.

Everything we've seen surrounding this film has had a much darker tone than previous Potter films and this trailer is no different. The trailer opens with the ominous and creepy words of Lord Voldemort. "Harry Potter," he starts, in a breathy tone. "I have seen your heart... and it is mine."

From there the spot moves through a series of serious images, Harry, Ron and Hermione all preparing for the big climactic battle. "They are coming..." you hear, a voice-over (possibly the voice of Professor Lupin?) set over quick cuts of Death Eaters swirling through the air, "You can't fight this war on your own... he's too strong."

This is followed by more shots of the main characters with various forms of pained expressions on their faces, a cut to the ghost of Dumbledore? A deliciously evil Bellatrix (Helena Bonham Carter) is shown wielding her wand, as well as Harry (wincing), Ron (running from something) and Hermione (standing in a field with her arm and wand up).

What do you think of the new TV spot? Share your thoughts and reviews in the comments!

For those heading out to see "Resident Evil: Afterlife" this weekend, you'll undoubtedly get your fill of creepy zombies, bloody death/action sequences and gorgeous actresses kicking undead butt, but for the more astute viewers, you'll also enjoy the unique melodic stylings of the film's composers TomandAndy.

When I caught up with Tom Hadju recently- one half of the dynamic composing duo - he discussed how they came up with their unique blended score, why it's different from a normal cinematic compositions and what attracts them to scoring genre films and other properties. Read More...

I saw "I'm Still Here" earlier this week, Casey Affleck's documentary(?) covering a period of roughly a year in the life of (former?) actor Joaquin Phoenix. As many of us know, Phoenix seemed to go a little batty starting in late-2008 when he announced his retirement from the world of Hollywood in order to pursue a career as a rapper. The hair grew long and unkempt, the beard became an unmanageable bird's nest and the drug use, at least from what Affleck's doc shows, ran rampant.

In short, we were led to believe that Phoenix had some sort of meltdown.

I'm speaking in uncertain terms because the debate that's raging around the movie is whether or not what we see on screen is a hoax or in some way staged. I'll address my thoughts on that at the end of this write-up, but first let's talk about "I'm Still Here" as what it is: a work of film. Read More...

I am terrified of the "Saw" series and its blood-soaked ilk. I can say that right up front. Gore-heavy horror just ain't my thing.

That said, this new trailer for "Saw 3D" is all kinds of awesome. I love the overt implication that going to the theater for the 3-D experience could mean your doom! Watching those spiked braces lock themselves down over the shoulders of audience members? Fantastic.

The first "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" TV spot premiered last night with "The Vampires Diaries" season premiere, and there were plenty of new peeks at the film that weren't already in its awesome full-length trailer. What's even better is that all the new footage in the television spot wasn't even shown at Comic-Con, so it's new for everyone. Hopefully you've already had a chance to watch the 30 second teaser, but if not, please watch it before we plunge away into spoiler territory!

You all know there's a thriller coming out on October 8 starring Robert De Niro, Edward Norton and Milla Jovovich, right? Norton plays a convicted arsonist who wants out. So he hatches a plan to lure his parole officer (De Niro) into a compromising situation with his wife (Jovovich). That's the read I get from the trailer. And it certainly explains why De Niro looks so distressed in the exclusive still below.

It's inevitable. Adaptations breed change. You translate a book for the big screen and you're going to be left with a much different product than what you started with. Even the most faithful adaptation is going to take liberties. It's just the way of things.

Even Peter Jackson, who so faithfully translated J.R.R. Tolkien's "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy for the big screen, made some very acceptable changes. Godlike character Tom Bombadil was left out, as was the "Scouring of the Shire" epilogue. Some complained, but in the end most agreed that these changes made sense and only served the film trilogy.

Much the same thing may happen with "The Hobbit," according to a leaked document. I normally wouldn't report this sort of thing, but it's minimally spoiler-ish if you've read the book and it comes from the entirely reputable "Rings" fansite, TheOneRing.net. Read More...

There's a new TV spot out in the wild for part one of "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows," which hits theaters on November 19. Here's the only thing you need to know: there's stuff here that you haven't seen before. Enjoy!

White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel became a hot topic right after Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley announced this week that he wouldn't run for re-election next year. Michael McKean, meanwhile, was insightful enough to ask if Emanuel's path would trigger a parallel move on the part of his brother Ari, the inspiration for Jeremy Piven's "Entourage" character.

Elsewhere in Twitter-Wood, movies are being made and released as usual. Tyrese Gibson continued his updates about "Transformers 3," while Brian Lynch looked ahead to the new "Resident Evil" this weekend, and photos of Nina Dobrev on the "Vampire Diaries" set, Denise Richards in a cheerleader outfit and Gary Sinise thanking his Twitter followers showed up.

I'm @brianwarmoth, and this is a picture-heavy Twitter-Wood for September 9, 2010. Read More...

Today has already brought with it a rich bounty of awesome Alamo Drafthouse-related news. MTV spoke with CEO and founder Tim League this morning about the past, present and future of his company. We not only learned of the launch of Drafthouse Films, a newly formed distribution arm that will be releasing the controversial Jihadist comedy "Four Lions" this fall, we also got word that the Drafthouse brand will be expanding to New York and Los Angeles sometime in the next year or so with those trademark events-driven movie theaters.

Then there's Mondo, the boutique art dealer headed by Justin Ishmael. What started as a cool, stylish way to promote Alamo Drafthouse events has transformed over time into a source of fine hand silk-screened art, all of it pegged to movies. Mondo recently won the "Star Wars" license, which has resulted in a steady stream of gorgeous, limited edition posters from a range of talented artists. The last offering, a Yoda print entitled "Great Warrior," was sold out in five minutes (curse all of you who were quicker on the draw than I was!). Barely two weeks later, I'm pleased to reveal the next "Star Wars" offering from Mondo, on sale tomorrow: "Dawn of Tatooine" by Shan Jiang
