M. Night Shyamalan returns to his horror roots with today's release of "Devil," the first film in The Night Chronicles. In "Devil," five strangers find themselves trapped inside of an elevator, with the human personification of the devil secretly posing as one of the members of the group. It's not quite as scary as Shyamalan and Josh Horowitz's "Escalation," but it's pretty darn close.

While "Devil" certainly takes elevator horror to creative new heights, it's not the first film to emerge with some truly iconic elevator scenes. After the jump, check out some of the most memorable elevator scenes in cinema history! Read More...

The third season of "Star Wars: The Clone Wars" kicks off tonight, and I've got a little treat for you in advance of that. A clip featuring Jedi Master Shaak Ti and her whirling lightsaber blade taking on, what else, laser-shootin' bad guys.

David Fincher's "The Social Network" has been getting some solid buzz around the Toronto International Film Festival, Richard Kelly has decided to contribute via his Twitter account. In fact, there was a lot to be excited about in the feed today. 50 Cent got cozy with a friend in a pic from the recording studio, a couple of "Eclipse" actress discovered a surprising snack-related coincidence in their lives and "Weird Al" Yankovic questioned a quote from Lindsay Lohan.

You'll find each of those tweets after the jump along with an old school Star Trek pictures from Leonard Nimoy and Hank Azaria's expectations for "Machete."

First, a warning to the faint of heart: the below video features a shirtless Danny DeVito. Proceed at your own risk.

The comic actor is apparently taking on the challenging role of Mahatma Gandhi, an historical figure most famously brought to life in film by Ben Kingsley in the 1982 feature, "Gandhi." DeVito will star in "Gandhi II," which he refuses to call either a sequel or a remake. I honestly can't tell if this is genuinely hilarious or if my natural inclination towards all things DeVito is coloring my opinion. David Mamet wrote and directed this little gem for FunnyOrDie though... check it out.

Josh Brolin loves himself some "Goonies." Just yesterday I reported that he told MTV's Josh Horowitz about the now-finished Steven Spielberg-directed, Aaron Sorkin-scripted "Goonies 2." Now he's talking about "Goonies 3"?!?! Clearly we live in bizarro world. First though, he puts to rest a rumor that he'll have a role in Jason Reitman's upcoming reunion with "Juno" writer Diablo Cody, "Young Adult."

"Not true," Brolin said of the rumor. "No. He and I may do something else. I think that's where the wires crossed. He was very apologetic [after the rumor cropped up]. But I did read [the script] and thought it was great. I think Charlize [Theron] is going to be amazing." Read More...

When it comes to epic showdowns on a grand scale, there's nothing that's quite on the level of the eternal conflict between Heaven and Hell. Seriously-- God versus Satan? Aren't all tales of nemeses trading blows able to be boiled down to the basic concept of good vs. evil?

Enter John Milton, poet and author of the 17th century epic "Paradise Lost." Legendary Pictures optioned the 10,000+ line poem for a big screen treatment and now they've found their director: Alex Proyas. The man who gave the world "The Crow," "Dark City" and "I, Robot" (and "Knowing," but let's not talk about that one). He's going to give us a movie featuring angels fighting demons, a great war and "aerial warfare," Variety reports. Also, surprise surprise, the movie may be shot in 3-D.

The Variety article reveals that the story will focus on the struggle between archangels Michael and Lucifer. This seems to indicate that the other half of the story, the fall of Adam and Eve, will be downplayed or perhaps ignored in favor of the larger spectacle of a Heaven vs. Hell showdown.

Kevin James is a lot of things: a comedian, a king of Queens, a mall cop, a zookeeper. Now, it's time to add a new occupation to that list — mixed martial artist.

As we reported earlier today, James is set to star in an as-yet-untitled feature about a physics teacher who becomes a mixed martial arts fighter in light of some serious budget cuts at his school. He eventually winds up as a fighter in the UFC. It might seem like a stretch to some of you, but James is an actor — it's literally his job to transform himself into characters you wouldn't expect him to play.

Besides, it's not like James doesn't have a long history of martial arts films to study and base his character around. After the jump, we've listed some fighting styles and techniques that he should consider when preparing for his MMA film! Read More...

Even people in their 30s (like me) know the name R.L. Stine. He's been writing children's books in the horror genre for as long as I can remember (since the early '90s). Really good ones too. His most recognizable series by far is the Goosebumps line of books. It's not a singular narrative, but rather a series of genre tales designed to frighten children without scarring them forever with gruesome imagery and overly adult situations.

Goosebumps was turned into a TV series in the mid-'90s, but it hasn't ever made the leap into film... yet. Columbia is producing a live-action feature adaptation with Scholastic Entertainment and Neal Moritz, and now they've found a screenwriter: Carl Ellsworth, who is perhaps best known for his work on "Disturbia." He also penned "Red Eye," the still-unreleased "Red Dawn" remake and the remake of Wes Craven's "The Last House on the Left." The book he's adapting remains to be seen, but with the rash of smart horror we've seen/will be seeing this year ("The Last Exorcism," "Let Me In," "Frozen," "The Crazies"), it's encouraging to see a talented guy like Ellsworth taking on a project like this, where walking a fine line between horror/suspense and kid-friendly appeal will be required.

I don't quite know what to make of director David O. Russell's "The Fighter" after seeing this first trailer for it. Russell has built a career out of making quirky movies that don't fit comfortably into any one genre. "I Heart Huckabees," "Three Kings," "Flirting With Disaster," "Spanking the Monkey"... you get the idea.

That's why I have such a hard time reconciling this trailer. From the look of things, the Mark Wahlberg/Christian Bale-starring based-on-truth boxing tale is a pretty straightforward drama in the vein of "Rocky." There's no quirk in evidence in this trailer at all. That's not a bad thing of course-- Russell's talents can't be denied. I just wonder if we're in for a presto change-o transformation for the film, from straightforward trailer to Russell Original quirkfest feature. Check it out and form your own opinion after the jump. Twitter-Wood's been lively today, and the Report has pictures to prove it. Actress Ana de la Reguera shared a look at her makeup job for Jon Favreau's "Cowboys and Aliens," while Jim Gaffigan hung out with Zach Galifianakis and "Weird Al" Yankovic found a knife you probably didn't expect to see today.

The folks behind the scenes at Twitter pulled off a new look for their site, and Alyssa Milano offered a critique. Meanwhile, the changes haven't been enough to scare newcomer Steve Martin, who posted a quick banjo story. Find out out more about that down below.

I'm @brianwarmoth, and it's discussed along with meat tuxedos and Peter Jacobson in Twitter-Wood for September 15, 2010. Read More...
