That's right, kids. HOT off the presses. The two follow-up films to "Avatar" will DEFINITELY go into production sometime in "this century," producer Jon Landau said in an interview with MTV's Eric Ditzian. So start counting the decades, Pandora fans!

Getting serious, Landau did offer some insight into how the production process will unfold for the planned "Avatar" sequels. First up: creature and environment development. The art team will get on that "as soon as [director James Cameron] locks in on some of those notes," Landau said. "We don't have to wait for a script for that. And there are also certain things we designed from the last movie that didn't make it in that I'm sure will make it in on the next movie." Read More...

We can all agree that "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull" fell far short of being awesome. That's putting it kindly. Even star Shia LaBeouf had to admit it. Still, it's hard not to love a Steven Spielberg and Harrison Ford team-up. So talk of a fifth Indy flick is a welcome thing, even if "Crystal Skull" left a bad taste.

That's what I've got for you today, from comments LaBeouf made to Showbiz Spy (via JoBlo). "I got called into Steven’s office and he pitched a little bit to me and it sounds crazy, it sounds really cool," he said. While he wouldn't say anything about the story, LaBeouf did confirm that "they're writing the script right now."

And that's it. As long as there are no aliens in the next one, I'm on board.

Seriously.... No. Aliens.

This has definitely been a week for the ladies in Daily TwitPic posts. Or the past two days, at any rate. As much as I'm a fan, I don't think you gathered masses of female readers out there are swooning over Neil Gaiman and Kevin Smith. Or maybe you are, who knows. Yesterday switched gears, giving you your first glimpse of Britney Spears on the set of "Glee" with one of the show's stars.

Today brings another lovely pairing. Celebutante Paris Hilton ran into pop singer Brandy at the popular Los Angeles restaurant Katsuya. And of course the two couldn't resist the opportunity to sidle up to one another and flash their prettiest smiles for a photo op. Paris even called Brandy "sweet." How nice. Start your Friday off right, with two beautiful women, in today's Daily TwitPic. Read More...

Just as Kal Penn predicted on Tuesday, "A Very Harold & Kumar Christmas" has wrapped and he, John Cho and writer Jon Hurwitz all got sentimental about their history together on Twitter. Actually, Hurwitz dedicated an entire tweet to Neil Patrick Harris, which may be indicative of where his heart really lies, but you can be the judge down below.

In un-related tweets, Ice-T has been playing "Kane and Lynch 2: Dog Days," and spoke up with his reactions. John Stamos discussed his "Glee" appearance, and Brian Lynch chided America for spending money on "Vampires Suck." Find out who you agree with after the jump, as well as who ran into Brandy recently.

Have you heard about "Jaws In Japan" yet? Don't be sad if the answer is no; the movie doesn't appear to have an actual tie to the blockbuster Steven Spielberg-created franchise. Instead, it is a Japanese release -- direct-to-video, apparently that "borrows" the title font from the original film. Amazon has it listed for pre-order with an October 12 release. There's no info beyond the basic stats listed there, but a peek at U.S. distributor Cinema Epoch's website reveals the following:

Beautiful girls are in danger. At Sunny Beach, a huge shark is waiting for his prey.

College students Miki and Mai arrive on a private beach on a tropical island. They can't find the hotel where they booked their reservations, and have gotten hopelessly lost, until a handsome young man shows up, offering to take them to his lodge.

But something is not right about the place. The owner's fingernails are tainted with blood and Miki feels something sinister lurking nearby.

This thing got me thinking. If "Jaws In Japan" can happen, what other wacky ideas are out there just waiting to exploit the cache of Spielberg's legendary film shark? I've cooked up a few after the jump. Thanks to Cinematical for bringing this one to the Internet's attention. Read More...

NOTE: I wrote this blog several months ago, when Lucasfilm's Steve Sansweet first revealed plans were in place to finally bring the "Star Wars" series to high definition Blu-ray. At the time I ran through a range of deleted scenes that we might expect/hope to see on the eventual release. Since there's an official release timeframe now, I thought it would be useful to re-post this blog for your reading enjoyment.

If you read this blog with any regularity, then you know that one thing I absolutely cannot pass on is an opportunity to talk about "Star Wars." The news today is a doozy too. At long last, Lucasfilm has confirmed that the series -- both the more recent prequels and the classic original trilogy -- will get a high definition Blu-ray release.

About. Damn. Time.

Lucasfilm's Steven Sansweet confirmed the upcoming release over the weekend at C2E2 in Chicago. "We have been at work for a couple of years working on—I won't call it the Ultimate Set because we keep finding stuff—but, a very full set of all six movies on Blu-ray with lots of extra material," he revealed to IGN. "We're finding all kinds of scenes from dailies that have never been seen before. Beyond all of those things that you know about… there are some real treasures." Read More...

The perpetually busy Seth Rogen just lined up his next gig. He'll voice the lead character in DreamWorks Animation's "Boo U.," The Hollywood Reporter reveals. The character isn't named, but he'll play a ghost who is sent back to school because he's no good at scaring little kids. Sounds like "Monsters Inc." with a "Back to School" twist.

Rogen is no stranger to animated features. He voiced Mantis in "Kung Fu Panda" -- another DreamWorks joint -- a role to which he'll be returning for next summer's "Kung Fu Panda: The Kaboom of Doom." More recently, Rogen voiced the blob creature B.O.B. in "Monsters & Aliens." "Lilo & Stitch 2" and "Igor" director Tony Leondis will helm the flick, which will hit screens in 3-D. No release date is listed.

I haven't seen "Vampires Suck" so I have nothing to say against it. I'm not big on Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer's most recent spoof flicks, but all credit goes to them for starting a fun series with "Scary Movie." I think my problem with subsequent efforts, like "Date Movie," "Disaster Movie" and "Meet the Spartans," is the lack of a strong narrative thread. Most of the greatest classic send-ups tell a story first and mix in the humor second.

I hear that "Vampires Suck" does that as well, following the basic story beats laid out in "Twilight" and "New Moon." I can't say if they've been taking notes from some of the classics, but whenever one of these movies comes out I always thumb through my catalog and pull out some favorites to watch again. I figure with "Vampires Suck" out tomorrow, now's a good time to share the latest spoof movie playlist I've put together. Read More...

It is universally acknowledged among fans of "The Wire" that Idris Elba, aka Stringer Bell, needs to work more. He certainly has been lately. The star has a headlining role in next week's release "The Takers." He's also in one of Marvel Studios' two summer 2011 tentpoles, "Thor." Now he's set to pick up a torch once carried by Morgan Freeman, author James Patterson's detective/psychologist Dr. Alex Cross. Freeman starred as the character in the 1997 film "Kiss the Girls" and the 2001 follow-up "Along Came a Spider."

Deadline reports that Elba will take the Cross role in the upcoming adaptation of Patterson's latest, "Cross." David Twohy will direct, which kind of rules. The guy did "Pitch Black" after all. "Cross" isn't sci-fi of course, but the Elba/Twohy pairing is hard for this fanboy to resist. And Freeman, as fantastic an actor as he is, is just too old to play the Cross role anymore. This is a great turn of events, both for film adaptations of the Patterson franchise and for Elba's own career.

If the market tanks today, you know who's to blame. All work at the New York Stock Exchange ground to a halt early this morning as Sylvester Stallone and his "Expendables" co-stars invaded Wall Street's hallowed ground.

They came to celebrate their #1 movie and to ring the exchange's opening bell, but what Sly, Jason Statham, Dolph Lundgren and Terry Crews really accomplished was distracting traders and analysts from doing their jobs. Given the sorry state of our nation's economy, these number-crunchers were probably thankful for the diversion.

For his part, Stallone confessed that he was hoping to for a bit of financial advice. "We went to the bank, they turned down our credit," Stallone joked with MTV News. "So we thought we'd go to the source. That's why we're here. Not to promote a movie. It's to get a house loan."
