Sixth place isn't necessarily the most ideal position to land in during an opening weekend, but in the case of "Piranha 3D," the performance was good enough to warrant a sequel. In a press release, Dimension Films confirmed that development is already underway on a new "Piranha" installment with director Alexandre Aja and producer Mark Canton back for round two. You know what that means, right? That's right — it's conjecture time!

After the jump, we've listed some suggestions for the "Piranha" sequel — but be careful, as major spoilers lie ahead! Read More...

"Tower Heist" is a movie that's been a long time in the coming. Originally intended as an ensemble caper featuring an African American cast of crooks who target Donald Trump, the plan has since changed somewhat.

Now, Ratner will direct what he tells Deadline he sees as "the quintessential New York heist movie, where a bunch of blue collar employees in a tower building pull off the ultimate heist." In the rejiggered story, Ben Stiller will star as the manager of a luxury apartment building where a Bernie Madoff-like crook is being held under house arrest. Stiller, who is a victim of the pyramid scheme along with some of his fellow building employees, hatches a plot to rob the guy who caused so much grief. See how criminal behavior can be a positive thing?

The script has been rewritten numerous times, with Ratner's version most recently treated by "Ocean's Eleven" writer Ted Griffin, Noah Baumbach and Jeff Nathanson. Ratner said, "The major difference from the Ocean’s film is those guys were expert thieves. These are real guys whose talent is they know the inner workings of the building and the people in it. It took a long time for this to come together, but it was totally worth the wait."

Two days in a row that I get to start things off with "Star Wars" posts? What a great way to start the week.

Yesterday you got a look at how "Empire Strikes Back" would play as a silent-era film. Today is all about steampunk. "Castle" star Nathan Fillion is a friend to geeks everywhere. This is largely because of his connection to the Whedonverse. Fillion played Captain Hammer in Joss Whedon's Internet sensation, "Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog," he starred in the short-lived but much-loved TV series "Firefly" (and subsequent movie "Serenity") and he even enjoyed a brief stint on "Buffy the Vampire Slayer." Yeah, fanfolk love the guy.

One thing that Fillion has never been professionally connected with is "Star Wars." Doesn't mean he's not a fan though. The rest of us can envy him now too, as one enterprising young enthusiast gifted him with a steampunk lightsaber. One of the cooler pieces of fan art I've seen, no question. Hit the jump and decide for yourself. Read More...

Star Wars was on a lot of minds in Twitter-Wood today for some reason. Nathan Fillion received a lightsaber as a gift, Seth MacFarlane used George Lucas' universe to express his own perspective on the proposed mosque in Manhattan that's come under fire and Jim Gaffigan contemplated Darth Vader's fashion motives.

In non-Star Wars tweeting, Simon Pegg really dug Cee-Lo's new single, Brent Spiner found himself attending the same event as former Illinois Rod Blagojevich, and Rainn Wilson has suggestions for Wyclef Jean's campaign to to become Haiti's next president. Find out who's sides you're on after the jump, as well as what Jackie Chan's Korean fan artwork looks like.

I'm @brianwarmoth, and this is the wide world of Twitter-Wood for August 23, 2010. Read More...

Thanks to the impending August 27th release date of the Eli Roth-produced horror flick, "The Last Exorcism," we’ve all had twisting heads and foul-mouthed demonic entities on the brain (what was that you said about our mother, Linda Blair?). So I decided to delve deeper into the nuances of Hollywood’s multitudinous spirit-evicting scenarios, as well as explore some of the real world situations that inspire them.

OMG DID YOU SEE THAT?!
Through the years, the movie industry has contorted the subject of exorcism with as much putty-like ease as its villains bend and shape their victims. The quietly unfolding narrative of "The Exorcist" (1973) and the classically-Spielbergian use of a child as the nucleus of wildly dramatic circumstances in "Poltergeist" (1982) paved the way for high-concept (and higher-budget) productions like "Stigmata" (1999) and "Constantine" (2005) -- effects-laden flicks focused on humankind trapped tug-of-war-style between good and evil, with only minor scenes devoted to the loose interpretation of an exorcism. The image below is deeply disturbing. I've been sworn to secrecy as far as the details go, but you'll find out soon enough. M. Night Shyamalan does have "Devil" coming out soon, a movie that he produced and conceived. Could this image have something to do with that? Was Josh so frightened by what he saw that Shyamalan had to swoop in and comfort him?

I can't say. You can feel free to speculate though. You'll all find out soon enough.

Late last week a trailer popped up online for a new fragrance from Gucci, Gucci Guilty. The 30-second clip features Chris Evans and Evan Rachel Wood, and was directed by "Sin City" helmer Frank Miller. Today there's another 30-second clip online which Gucci's official YouTube feed touts as the "official TV commercial for Gucci Guilty." The ad is set to premiere on September 12 during the MTV Video Music Awards, though now I'm wondering if we're in for something longer.

The ad has a real "Sin City" feel to it; although it is in color, it's the same sort of hyper-stylized colorization you saw in the comic book adaptation. Only it permeates the whole thing. It's a pretty cool look, and very identifiably Miller's work for those who are familiar with "Sin City" and "300." See for yourself after the jump. Read More...

On Saturday, some lucky test screeners in Chicago got the opportunity to see the first cut of "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1." The CGI wasn't completely finished, it had a stand-in score and its runtime was 150 minutes, but the response from the fans was overwhelmingly positive despite any issues they may have had with the first cut of the movie.

Hit the jump to see our wrap up of responses to the film and how they resolve some misgivings that have been had with "Part 1." Be warned, spoilers are contained after the jump, so if you want to go into the final two installments of the "Harry Potter" saga unspoiled, you probably don't want to read the rest of this post. She may be up for "Cleopatra," "Maleficent," "Salt 2" or any number of other things, but Angelina Jolie has announced what her next project will be. In a statement issued on Saturday by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees(??), the star -- who made a surprise weekend visit to Sarajevo -- revealed that she'll shoot a love story this fall set around the 1992-1995 Bosnian War, Reuters reports.

"The film is a love story, not a political statement," the release reads. The story will follow a couple who meet before the war begins, charting the life of their relationship and how it is influenced/impacted by the conflict. Jolie was in Sarajevo "to discuss ways to help thousands of returning war refugees," the report reads. The film will presumably have some kind of charity attached to it -- that is pure speculation on my part -- and Jolie confirmed that she'll fill the cast with locals. "I would like to involve as many local people as possible and learn as much as I can," she said. I haven't seen the actual release, but based on the reports I've read it doesn't seem clear if this is a star vehicle for Jolie or something she'll take a more hands-off role in.

The lesson in today's clip from "The American" is simple: don't f--k with George Clooney. The Anton Corbijn-directed thriller stars the popular actor as a retiring assassin who just wants to finish his last mission and be done with the life. Too bad for him, the life won't let go so easily.

In the below clip, Clooney is out for a snowy stroll with his new friend Ingrid (Irina Björklund). She doesn't know what his background is, but she's about to get a taste of it. The clip ends before he has to explain himself; my guess is he takes the "that dude made fun of 'Batman & Robin'" defense.

I sure do like the look of this movie. It's out on September 1, next Wednesday, to kick off the post-summer season of Oscar bait contenders. Will this be one of them? Who knows, but I'm sure curious to see it!
