First, let me start by thanking Ain't It Cool News for bringing a little bit of sunshine to my morning. I pointed my browser at AICN this morning and noticed a headline which spoke of a Lando Calrissian-centered blaxploitation film, "Blackstar Warrior."

Of course I clicked. How could I not? The trailer I discovered there -- which apparently screened at San Diego Comic-Con last month -- stars Leonard Roberts in the role made famous by Billy Dee Williams. I immediately recognized Roberts' smirk from "Heroes" (he was phase-shifter D.L.), but some might also know him from an arc he had on "Buffy the Vampire Slayer." I recognize the Han Solo actor, but I can't recall his name.

The spoof isn't quite as self-aware as last year's "Black Dynamite"; it's played pretty straight for the most part. It's fun though, and if this thing were actually developed into a feature-length film (don't hold your breath), I'd be there opening day. Check out the trailer after the jump. There's also a three-part mockumentary. Wacky stuff. Happy Monday! Read More...

Anticipation for an "Avatar" sequel has been riding high since December 18 of last year, also known as the day the first movie hit theaters. Writer/director/producer James Cameron promised multiple times that there was more story to tell... but the when's and how's have remained mostly a mystery. Deals still need to be made, Cameron revealed in an interview with MTV's Josh Horowitz yesterday, but momentum is nonetheless building in other ways.

"'Avatar 2'... we're still working on deals. We don't start the movie until we get the deals worked out," he said. "I'm making notes. I'm not sitting idle," Cameron said. "But really, what I'm working on primarily is the novel." Read More...

Wyclef Jean already has at least one vocal backer for his run for President in Haiti, thanks to Ice-T. Conan O'Brien may be on board, too, but he's got some high standards. Miranda Cosgrove, meanwhile, won't be running for head of state anytime soon, but she is up for a Teen Choice Award for "iCarly," and tweeted the results of her dress search.

Find out how that went after the jump, where you'll also find out how Neil Patrick Harris feels about Prop 8 being overturned and see shots of Edward Norton surfing, Autumn Reeser hanging out a Dodgers game and Dave Coulier rubbing elbows with Sarah Silverman.

You might remember reading reports a few weeks ago about the next film for the Wachowski siblings, who so famously set the bar higher for dystopian science fiction in 1999 with "The Matrix." A title emerged, and rumors of the basic plot, but little else. The word is that the story focuses on a homosexual relationship between a U.S. soldier and an Iraqi soldier. Speculation at the time got people thinking that the movie's title, "CN9," was a reference to the brain's 9th cranial nerve. Turns out that wasn't quite the case.

Deadline is now reporting that the title in question is actually "Cobalt Neural 9," though they're still referring to the taboo romance as the basic story for the thing. The news is wrapped up in a larger post about the need for script secrecy in this Internet age, but at least we know what "CN9" means.

Director Matt Reeves did something really fascinating with "Cloverfield" in giving us a "monster invades city" movie told from the perspective of a small group of fleeing citizens. The people who are usually staring down the gullet of a massive destructive force instead take centerstage. The results are quite suspenseful.

MTV spoke to Reeves recently about his upcoming "Let the Right One In" remake, "Let Me In," but we managed to squeeze in a few questions about the status of the frequently asked about "Cloverfield" sequel. Reeves admitted that both himself and producer J.J. Abrams are focused on other things right now, but there's definitely still a strong interest in returning to that universe. Read More...

"Pride and Prejudice and Zombies" is something we're very excited about here at MTV News. The book, written by Seth Grahame-Smith -- co-creator of MTV's "The Hard Times of RJ Berger" -- takes Jane Austen's classic and mashes it up with the walking dead. It was optioned last year by Natalie Portman, who will produce and star. David O. Russell is writing the script and directing. A good team-up, no question.

MTV's very own Rick Marshall, editor of Splash Page, spoke to Portman at San Diego Comic-Con last month and she was happy to give an update on where things are at with the upcoming zombie mash-up.

"We just got a new draft from David O. Russell, who is adapting it and is going to direct it," she said. "I'm such a big fan of his. 'Flirting With Disaster' is one of my favorite movies, and 'Three Kings' and pretty much everything he does is incredible." Read More...

Denzel Washington. Chris Pine. Tony Scott. Not a bad combo, right? The latter directs the former two in "Unstoppable," the first trailer for which hit the Internet today.

I dig it. Maybe there are malevolent forces, terrorist-type baddies who set the marauding train seen in the trailer on its path to destruction. But I sort of like the idea of a movie with no villain other than failing technology and bad timing. The premise is laid out pretty clear in the trailer: Washington is a train operator, Pine is his trainee. While out on a lesson, the two get word of an out-of-control training hauling enough hazardous waste to put a large area in grave danger should the thing derail. So crazy plan is concocted by Washington to stop the thing. No one wants to do it-- too risky. But it's either that or put a lot of lives at risk. "Speed" on rails? Maybe. Looks fun. Check it out after the jump. Read More...
