Boxing, wrestling and the UFC aren't the only sports where you'll find people kicking the ever-loving tar out of each other. In fact, even in a game as mild-mannered as baseball, players can come to blows. Look no further than last night's heated altercation between the St. Louis Cardinals and the Cincinnati Reds during the first inning of their game, when Reds second baseman Brandon Phillips' venomous words towards the Cardinals escalated into a big — and stupid — seven minute brawl.

But fights have a tendency to escalate. What starts out as an intimate one-on-one display of dominance quickly evolves into an all-out brawl with several fists flying from all directions. Really, the Cards and Reds brawl could have escalated a whole lot worse — just check out some of these horribly escalated fictional fights for further proof! Read More...

Christmas is coming early this year, from a galaxy far, far away. Lucasfilm has announced that the third season of "Star Wars: The Clone Wars" will arrive on September 17 with an hour-long series premiere. Last season we saw some monumental events go down. Anakin Skywalker continued to inch closer and closer to his inevitable fall while grand-scale battles were raged across a variety of landscapes. In the end, Republic forces and their Jedi allies were rattled when Boba Fett made his first appearance in the series as an angry young man bent on revenge. Expect plenty of surprises from the coming season (trust me on this one), and make sure to tune in to Cartoon Network on 9/17 when we return to a galaxy far, far away!

Back in February we heard about this upcoming sci-fi flick from director Alfonso Cuaron called "Gravity" that was set to star Angelina Jolie. The story follows the star's character as she tries to get home to her daughter after being stranded in outer space.

Then everything changed. Jolie departed. Robert Downey Jr. signed on. A replacement for Jolie was needed; the movie is still pinned to following this female survivor who ends up stranded in space. But how do you replace someone whose star shines as brightly as Jolie's? You take your time. That's what Cuaron has been doing. And now The Hollywood Reporter reveals that the search has been narrowed to two contenders: Scarlett Johansson and Blake Lively. Which would you choose? Which is right for the role? I weight the possibilities after the jump. Read More...

"The Other Guys" is a terrifically bizarre movie. I didn't fall head-over-heels for it, but stars Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg provide a good time while Michael Keaton steals every one of the (blessedly many) scenes he's in.

One of the central plot points involves a complex Ponzi scheme. If you don't know what that is, just stick around for the end credits. Or hit play on the below video, which is just the end credits.

"The Expendables" arrives in theaters this weekend with several familiar faces in tow — well, familiar faces if you're a fan of epic action extravaganzas filled to the brim with blood, booze and babes aplenty, that is! If you're not well-versed in that scene, don't worry — we have you covered. Throughout the week, we're profiling the six heroes at the center of "The Expendables," continuing today with martial arts extraordinaire Jet Li. Read More...

In the news today is "Chronicle," a spec script from Max Landis (son of "Coming to America" director John Landis) that Twentieth Century Fox picked up. Variety describes the film as "a docu-style account of three Portland teens who become exposed to a mysterious substance in the woods and, as a result, develop incredible powers." While the trio initially enjoy their newfound abilities, problems eventually arise that cause a split between them. Josh Trank will direct.

I like this idea. "District 9" took a pretty basic sci-fi premise -- albeit with some original twists -- and wrapped an exceptionally low-budgeted docu-style narrative around it. The result speaks for itself, in the form of widespread praise and a Best Picture Oscar nomination. It sounds like we've got a similar vibe here, only replace the extraterrestrials with the comic book trappings of a superpower origin story. What do you think of the pitch, and the move in general toward more modestly budgeted high concept filmmaking?

Sylvester Stallone is throwing back to his '80s fame this week in the ensemble action romp, "The Expendables." As one of the premiere action stars of the past 30 years, it's very exciting to see him going back to his roots, especially with the great cast he's surrounded himself with.

MTV's Josh Horowitz spoke to Stallone about "The Expendables" at San Diego Comic-Con a few weeks ago, and talk inevitably turned to two other projects with roots in the actor's past.

First was "Poe," a biopic about the late horror author Edgar Allen Poe that Stallone has had his heart set on doing for a long, long time. "I will direct it, but it's never gonna live up to the hype," he said. He jokingly added, "No matter what I do it's going to bomb, totally. Totally! When you've been talking about something for 30 years, it's impossible [to live up to those expectations]." Read More...

This news actually broke two days ago, but I haven't gotten to it until now. Still, great to hear. Timur Bekmambetov, whose particular aesthetic and sense of action turned the (very loose) adaptation of Mark Millar comic "Wanted" into something special, is now committed to directing "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter," which he is also producing with Tim Burton. Bekmambetov told Empire, "That one I’m prepping to direct myself. It is not a comedy at all – it is a very entertaining, epic history lesson for millions and millions of teenagers. If you remember 'Nightwatch,' it is maybe in the vein of that kind of movie."

I'm a little concerned at the idea of "Vampire Hunter" being considered a "history lesson." I've read (and loved) the book, and while it's filled with factual information about the sixteenth U.S. president's life, it's also ultimately a story about him hunting vampires. Bekmambetov also mentions that there are "many opportunities to develop and explore this world" in sequels. That much is certainly true; while the book is focused on Lincoln's life, from his birth to his eventual assassination, a larger vampire mythos is established as the story progresses. It certainly would be interesting to explore that in future films, especially if the novel's author, Seth Grahame-Smith continues to be involved.

Russell Brand hopped on Twitter yesterday to show off his lovely new bride, the big prize he walked away with after his weekend appearance at the Teen Choice Awards. She's certainly a... looker? I wonder how Katy Perry will react when she hears the news...

Wait. That is Katy Perry! I'm not sure this new look really works for her. Then again, Brand has proven in the past that he's into some weird stuff. Just look at how he reacted when he met "Sesame Street"'s Elmo on the streets of New York City. The true story here is that Perry appeared at the TCAs over the weekend as one of the presenters, dressed as a nerd. Or, more accurately, dressed the way you see her in today's Daily TwitPic, which many are classifying as "nerd." What if she was just supposed to be an awkward high schooler...?

No. That's full-on nerd. Read More...

The Teen Choice Awards tweets didn't stop today, and Russell Brand even shared a behind-the-scenes shot with lucky lady partner. Rachelle Lefevre said she was bummed that she couldn't be there, but loves her award just the same.

In other tweets, calls are going out for an auto-tuned edition of the Jet Blue attendant's tirade from before he bailed on the runway. Marlon Wayans said he doesn't care about Michelle Obama's vacation budget, and Sarah Silverman wishes that women could all get along a bit better. Find out why after the jump where you'll also see what Tyra Banks might look like as a man.
