When "Avatar 2" rolls around, moviegoers are going to want to bring a snorkel in addition to their awkward 3-D goggles — according to the main man himself, James Cameron is thinking about shooting scenes underwater.

Cameron's expertise in the filmmaking arena is rivaled only by his fascination with the ocean depths, having shot several portions of "The Abyss" and "Titanic" underwater and going diving in his spare time. With a world as intricate and unexplored as Pandora, it only makes sense that the highly anticipated sci-fi sequel goes a few leagues under the sea.

"I think what we should do there is — because we'll have to have characters that are in and under the water — is that we should actually capture them underwater," Cameron told MTV News. "It's not the same as going diving, but I like to keep my diving, which I do for pleasure, separate from work." Read More...

If you haven’t yet seen the trailers for “Easy A,” stop reading now and do yourself a favor and go watch. The buzz around this film, which stars the always-enjoyable Emma Stone as a high schooler trying to stand out from the crowd by altering her reputation in a big way (read: pretending to become promiscuous), is great.

We recently spoke with the film’s director, Will Gluck, who said the teen comedy is different because it is smart and about a universally-relatable subject: reputation.

“It’s about how people are judged and what it feels like to be judged and to judge,” Gluck said. “But hopefully it doesn’t feel like medicine when you’re watching it.” Read More...

Okay alien sex fiends, just calm down. Your fix is coming. MTV's Josh Horowitz recently chatted with filmmaker James Cameron about the upcoming August 27 re-release of "Avatar." A few days ago I ran through what to expect from the extra nine minutes being incorporated into the movie. There was one that I left out though, one that people seem to be disturbingly interested in: the Na'vi sex scene. Here's Cameron on what to expect.

"You mean the alien kink scene? "It's been restored, every last frame of it. Seriously," he said. "All 20 seconds of it." Sleep safely, extraterrestrial fetishists. Your salvation is coming. Read More...

Remember "Elf"? The Jon Favreau-directed 2003 family comedy starring Will Ferrell as an elf exiled from Santa's workshop? Well it's coming to Broadway. And that theater adaptation now has a cast, or a large chunk of one at any rate.

NewYorkTheatreGuide.com reports on the announcement of the star-studded main cast, which includes Tony Award winner Beth Leavel (Emily), Tony Award nominee Mark Jacoby (Walter), Matthew Gumley (Michael), Valerie Wright (Deb), Michael McCormick (Mr. Greenway), Michael Mandell (Store Manager) and six-time Emmy Award winner George Wendt (Santa). Still to be revealed are the actors in the starring roles of Buddy and Jovie, Ferrell's and Zooey Deschanel's characters, respectively. Also in the cast, in unnamed roles, are Timothy J. Alex, Callie Carter, Cara Cooper, Lisa Gadja, Asmeret Ghebremichael, Blake Hammond, Emily Hsu, Jenny Hill, Nancy Johnston, Marc Kessler, Matt Loehr, Lee Wilkins and Kirsten Wyatt.

"Elf" opens at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre on November 14, 2010.

The big movie news today is that "The Hangover" director Todd Phillips is developing a biopic chronicling the too-short life of comedian and actor John Belushi. The portly "Saturday Night Live" vet passed away in 1982, at the age of 33, the victim of a drug overdose. In spite of his abbreviated career, Belushi held starring roles in what many consider to be two of the greatest comedies in the history of film: "Blues Brothers" and "Animal House."

Now Phillips, as producer, and screenwriter Steven Conrad are set to bring the tragic story to the big screen. Success hinges entirely on the proper casting of the Belushi role. Some names are already being tossed around, but I've got a few suggestions of my own. Share your thoughts on these and any other likely candidates in the comments section after the jump. UPDATE: Thanks to commenter kinnemaniac, the August 12 "Wizard of Oz" celebrating makes more sense.

"The Wizard of Oz" turns 71 on August 25 so, for whatever reason, Google is celebrating the occasion today with one of their trademark doctored logos (seen above). In response, Guardian UK gathered together a list of 71 factoids about the movie. Some of it you'll know -- is anyone not aware that the long-rumored "hanging Munchkin" was actually just a bird? -- but some of it will come as a total surprise. Or at least, it did to me. Hit the jump for a sampling of the gathered trivia and follow the Guardian link for the full list. Read More...

Talk about a headline writing itself. You'll understand when you see today's Daily TwitPic.

I actually saw "Scott Pilgrim Vs. the World" last night with MTV Splash Page editor Rick Marshall. It's a week of tough choices for guys going to the movies, between Pilgrim's video game-fueled frenzy and the testosterone-drenched action of Sylvester Stallone's ensemble throwback, "The Expendables." My recommendation? Make it a double-feature weekend. It's impossible to pick one or the other, so just choose both.

The pic after the jump, tweeted by Mark Webber (who plays Stephen Stills in the movie), is better seen than described. It's basically "Pilgrim" star Michael Cera goofing off on set. But it's a bizarre moment in the young actor's life, forever captured on digital film and archived on the Internet for future generations to puzzle over. Read More...

Just Diablo Cody's pregnancy tweets have come to an end, so have Alanis Morissette's begun. The singer and actress proudly proclaimed her new status today, and seems to have picked up the baton where the Cody left it.

A few posts sneaked out of current entertainment projects as well over the last 24 hours, as Mark Webber showed off a Michael Cera shot that he saved from "Scott Pilgrim vs. The Wold," Robert Rodriguez completed "Machete," and Ice-T discussed Jennifer Love Hewitt's involvement in an upcoming episode of "Law and Order: SVU." Find out more about that, as well as what Stephen Colbert thinks about the girl in the job-quitting whiteboard prank after the jump.

"Glee" creator Ryan Murphy sure is having a good year. There's the incredible popularity of "Glee," for starters. He's also got the Julia Roberts-starring "Eat, Pray, Love" arriving in theaters this Friday. He's still looking ahead though. Mark Ruffalo told MTV a few weeks ago that he'll be starring in an adaptation of Larry Kramer's semi-autobiographical play "The Normal Heart." He revealed that Kramer wrote the script and Murphy is somehow involved. We now have clarification from the man himself about what his role will be.

"I'm directing it from Larry Kramer's beautiful script and we're going to shoot that in June of next year," he told MTV's Josh Horowitz on the red carpet at the "Eat, Pray, Love" premiere in New York City last night. "I think it's an important story and I think Mark Ruffalo is just beyond brilliant so I'm very excited to be directing him." Read More...
