Starting in the middle of last week and continuing on through the weekend, fans of a galaxy far, far away descended on Orlanda, Florida for "Star Wars" Celebration V. A lot of crazy happenings went down, from "Star Wars"-inspired speed dating to the (temporary) closing of Disney's "Star Tours" ride to the long-awaited announcement of a "Star Wars" Blu-ray release. MTV's Laurel Woods braved Florida's brutal August heat/humidity to bring back reports straight from the show floor. What follows is a rundown of Jon Stewart's press conference, which happened in advance of the show's so-called Main Event: a one-on-one conversation between Stewart and "Star Wars" creator George Lucas.

Believe it or not, there's still plenty of fight left in the old dog known as Sylvester Stallone, as seen by the success of "The Expendables," the actor, writer and director's 1980s action cinema throwback that secured box office gold this past weekend. With victory in mind, it's clear that Stallone and the studio executives at Lionsgate are already thinking about sequel possibilities. But really, there's only one sequel idea that makes any kind of sense: expanding on the team led by Trench, Stallone's mercenary rival played by Arnold Schwarzenegger in an all-too-brief cameo role.
It's the perfect comeback movie for Schwarzenegger, and it opens up all sorts of doors for further casting excellence. After the jump, we've got a few suggestions for who could saddle up alongside Trench as part of the "Expendables" sequel's new team! Read more...

As many of you know, Jack Kerouac's classic Beat-era novel "On the Road" is being adapted into a movie starring Garrett Hedlund, Sam Riley, Kirsten Dunst and Kristen Stewart. It's a challenging story to commit to screen, but "The Motorcycle Diaries" director Walter Salles is certainly up to the task, especially with the cast he's assembled.
Stewart told us in June that part of her preparation for the starring role of Marylou involved sending her and her fellow cast members through a four week beatnik boot camp. That stage appears to be over, and production underway, thanks to this photo we've got of the "Twilight" star from the set, in full Marylou costume. It's our first look, and an unofficial one at that, so I would encourage you to hold off on making any judgments. This glimpse definitely makes me curious to see more though. The image itself is rather large; you can find it after the jump. Read more...

Let's all take a moment to wish "Avatar" architect James Cameron a big old happy 56th birthday today. Somewhere in the midst of prepping his "Avatar" novel, exec producing Guillermo del Toro's "At the Mountains of Madness" and any number of other movie-related happenings, he's found the time to fly off to Russia's Lake Baikal -- the deepest freshwater lake in the word -- where he'll spend the day at around 900 fathoms. Unless the weather is off, in which case he will "be getting drunk with the Russian crew in the port."
I like Cameron's style.
Now I'm left wondering what the visionary filmmaker will do to top this epic freshwater birthday dive in years to come. You all know what that means, right? It's list time! Read more...

Last week and all through the weekend, I sat and watched the Internet (and my Twitter feed) jealously as "Star Wars" fans from across the globe gathered in Orlando, Florida for Star Wars Celebration V. Note to Lucasfilm: bring it to NYC already!
The biggest news of the show came on Saturday during the so-called "Main Event," a one-on-one discussion between franchise creator George Lucas and Comedy Central fake news superstar Jon Stewart. Here it is: "Star Wars," both of the trilogies, will finally be released as a Blu-ray box set next year. There's no specific release date (just fall 2011) or price listed, but fans who have been clamoring for hi-def adventures in a galaxy far, far away (yo!) will at long last get their wish. In addition to the usual assortment of commentaries, behind-the-scenes footage, interviews, retrospectives and the like, we'll also be getting some unstated amount of deleted scenes, stuff that just hasn't been seen before.
Like what, you ask? Hit the jump for a sampling, a scene cut from the beginning of "Return of the Jedi" in which Vader uses the Force to communicate with Luke, who is holed up in a cave on Tatooine building a new lightsaber. Read more...

You know that "untitled James L. Brooks" comedy that only recently got a title, "How Do You Know"? The one starring Reese Witherspoon, Paul Rudd, Owen Wilson and Jack Nicholson. Well there's a debut trailer for it online.
The movie actually looks pretty damn funny, sharper than your typical romantic comedy love triangle fare, which is basically what it is. Witherspoon plays an accomplished athlete who is involve with a professional baseball player (Wilson). He's totally wrong for her. Then along comes an old friend (Rudd), a corporate suit who is embroiled in some legal shenanigans. Pending court appearances aside, he's perfect for her. The movie's plot might diverge from the story the trailer lays out, but even if it doesn't there's some sharp writing here. Not that I would expect anything less from Brooks. Enjoy.

I'm here to send you off into the weekend with someone new to check out. East Oakland rapper and friend of MTV E-A-Ski recently scored a victory at the 13th Okanagan International Film Festival. His short film/music video "No Problems," which features "Lethal Weapon" star Danny Glover, took home the festival's International Prestigious Award. You can get a little taste of it right here.
The track comes from Ski's forthcoming album, "Fifth of Skithoven," which he calls a "reinvention" and which also features Bay Area MCs Eastwood and Locksmith.

Ice-T almost lost his iPad in New York today, and Twitter-Wood held its breath for a bit until he announced that one of his "SVU" pals managed to find it unharmed. Ice is calling it a "miracle," and I'm sure lots of iPad owners out there can empathize.
"Scott Pilgrim vs. The World" is by far one of most trend-friendly subjects on the Internet right now. Anna Kendrick wants you to see her movie, Duncan Jones called Edgar Wright his geek, and Eli Roth threw his total support behind the film. Find out why down below along with Marlon Wayans anti-WikiLeaks frustrations.
I'm @brianwarmoth, and this is Twitter-Wood for August 13, 2010. Read more...

Right around this time last year, the fervor surrounding "Paranormal Activity" was just starting to ramp up. The $15,000 budgeted movie would go on to earn almost $200 million worldwide, making it the most profitable theatrical release of all time. A sequel was inevitable, and it's coming this October. The only problem is we don't really know anything about it outside of what's in a vague trailer. MTV spoke to "Paranormal" star Micah Sloat recently, and sadly, he had no details to share.
"I can just talk about the trailer because I saw that for myself," he said. "There's a baby and a dog and a new house and that's about all I can tell you." Of course that's all he can tell us. That's all you see in the trailer! Sloat chose his words very carefully, speaking of the sequel in only the vaguest terms and not mentioning how he might or might not be connected to it. Read more...
