If you haven't yet watched the trailer for Darren Aronofsky's "Black Swan," released last night, do yourself a favor and go take a look. I'll wait.

Pretty cool. I'm not sure how to read "Black Swan." Early descriptions suggested that star Mila Kunis's character might in fact be a figment of fellow star Natalie Portman's imagination, which led me to regard the movie as a sort of female-driven "Fight Club." I'm not sure what to think after this trailer though; a lot of wacky stuff going on. There are clearly some mommy issues for Portman's character, but there are just as clearly some supernatural elements at work. My hope is that future trailers keep things mysterious and unclear, as I'd love to go into this one and be surprised. Aronofsky has a knack for telling telling unusual stories.

After the jump you can check out the brand new poster released to accompany the trailer, teased in the header image above. Read More...

Hitting theaters on September 10 is "Bran Nue Dae," an adaptation of the 1990 Australian stage play by Jimmy Chi and his band, Kuckles. The production is recognized as the first Aboriginal musical. Director Rachel Perkins helmed the flick, which features a largely Australian cast. The most recognizable name is undoubtedly Geoffrey Rush, an accomplished stage and screen actor who is known best for his Captain Barbossa role in the "Pirates of the Caribbean" series. He plays the antagonist, Father Benedictus, in "Bran Nue Dae."

In the below exclusive clip you can see Benedictus facing off against a roomful of students as they sing to him the joys of being an aborigine.

Bond screenwriters Neal Purvis and Robert Wade are cooling their heels right now while MGM's financial woes keeps 007's license to kill on hold. So why not pick up another project, one that is thematically close to the great work they did on "Casino Royale" and "Quantum of Solace."

Deadline reports that Purvis and Wade are set up with Parkes/McDonald and Imagenation to develop a script for a political action thriller in which an anthropologist travels to West Africa to clear the name of a friend who has been implicated in a terrorist attack. The story, which spawned with an idea from producer Michael Lieber -- himself a former cultural anthropologist -- involves Sahara West Africa's nomadic Taureg tribes and the uranium-rich lands through which they wander. There's no director, no casting, not even a title yet. But the story fits the particular talents of the writers, so I'm curious to see what comes of this one.

Wes Craven is busy right now, off directing "Scream 4." But did you know he's got a movie coming out later this year? Horror/thriller "My Soul To Take." I hadn't heard about it, but a new trailer was just released (embedded below). The story follows a group of seven high schoolers who were all born on the same day, which also happens to be the same day that a local serial killer was killed. Based on what we see in the trailer, the suggestion is that said killer's soul came to rest within the body of one of the seven.

What do you think of the trailer? I'm not blown away by it, but I didn't care for the "G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra" trailers either, and that turned out to be an awfully entertaining movie.

U.S. President Barack Obama turned some heads in Los Angeles yesterday by paying a visit to a fundraiser and impacting traffic in the city. Tweets on the matter trended fiercely, and Patton Oswalt, Richard Kelly, Jon Hurwitz and David Spade all felt the effects of the POTUS appearance.

Plenty of work posts showed up in Twitter-Wood as well. William Shatner, for instance, sounds like he's having a good time on the "$#*! My Dad Says" set. Alison Brie got stoked about the rental car she picked up for "Scream 4." And Sofia Vergara put up a photo from behind the scenes at "American Family."

I'm @brianwarmoth, and this is Twitter-Wood for August 17, 2010. Read More...

This is a truly bizarre, yet potentially awesome, turn of events. Remember how "Zombieland" had that fantastically awesome cameo that I won't spoil here for the two or three of you left who don't know about it? Well Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg and Jay Baruchel have something similar in mind for their planned post-apocalyptic comedy, "Jay and Seth Vs. the Apocalypse." A caveat first though: the original source for this news is not a well-known outlet and the news itself is of the "maybe so, maybe not" variety... so take this with the appropriate helping of salt grains.

I read this morning on The Playlist that showbiz news site Entertainment Biz! is reporting that "Harry Potter" star Daniel Radcliffe isn't just sought after for one of the movie's roles, he's also "keen to get involved," an unnamed source said.

I don't quite buy this news as fact (yet), but that doesn't mean I don't think it would be awesome to see Radcliffe in a movie with the likes of Rogen and Baruchel. Will Radcliffe be one of the dead celebrity cameos that Baruchel told us he wanted for the movie or do you think the part he's reportedly been approached for is more substantial?

From the minute rumors started circulating earlier this week about an alleged Rat Pack movie starring George Clooney as Frank Sinatra and Angelina Jolie as Marilyn Monroe we smelled, well, a rat. Too good to be true? Of course it was.

Aside from the fact that the “Salt 2” talk is already cranking up (not to mention a busy schedule that includes “The Tourist” and possible turns as “Cleopatra” and “Maleficent”), the superstar Jolie casting sounded like some kind of a secret Freemason film dream to finally complete Jolie’s impossible leading man trifecta (Brad, Johnny and George). Angie’s reps quickly quashed the rumors that she was locked in to star in the adaptation of the “dog’s-eye view” book “The Life and Opinions of Maf the Dog, and of His Friend Marilyn Monroe,” which will tell the story of the couple’s relationship from the view of the Scottish poodle Sinatra gave to Monroe as a gift.

That still got us thinking and scheming, though, about our own dream cast for “Maf.” Read More...

I guess I'm going to have to read this thing, huh? Quite a talented lineup of stars are aligning to deliver an English-language adaptation of Stieg Larsson's novel "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo." First, David Fincher was announced as the director. Then Daniel Craig nabbed the lead role of Mikael Blomkvist. Followed by Robin Wright and Stellan Skarsgard. And, yesterday, Rooney Mara, who will star opposite Craig as Lisbeth Salander.

Now there's a report from Variety today which reveals that Max Von Sydow, who most recently played the creepy German doctor in "Shutter Island," is in talks for the role of Henrik Vanger. I haven't read the book yet so it's hard to comment, but the consensus around the MTV newsroom is that this is a perfect bit of casting.

Somewhere out there sits a blogger in his boxer shorts writing a dissertation-length post about the connection between James Cameron and "Piranha 3D."

Here's the CliffsNotes version: Cameron made his feature film debut in 1982 with "Piranha II: The Spawning" ("The Terror is Back....But This Time it Flies!"), effectively ending the fishy franchise until this week's "Piranha 3D," the trailer for which ran before Cameron's "Avatar" last December.

Still too long for you? How about we turn to Mr. Jerry O'Connell, star of "Piranha 3D," for a pithier take on the Cameron/"Piranha 3D" connection. Read More...

I've been hearing good things about "Monsters." I certainly like what I see here in the newly released trailer. "Paranormal Activity" certainly wasn't the first low-budget effort to enjoy huge success, but it, along with "Cloverfield," certainly seems to have triggered a wave of genre films of the sort that haven't been popular since "The Blair Witch Project." Now we've got this, "Skyline," "Battle: Los Angeles," "Buried" and probably a few more that I'm forgetting.

"Monsters" though, it's about as small as small can get, production-wise. The film came together under the supervision of a five-person crew, plus two actors. The trailer certainly suggests a larger team, but that's it apparently. The story picks up after an extraterrestrial force has arrived on the planet; the story follows the two leads as they make their way through the infected zone at the US/Mexican border. "Monsters" arrives as a VOD title on September 24 and it hits theaters on October 29. Hit the jump to check out the trailer. Read More...
