It's been public knowledge for some time that while Barbra Streisand will be reprising her role as mother Focker in "Meet the Parents: Little Fockers," Dustin Hoffman was a no-go for father Focker. It seems that is no longer the case. Deadline reveals that the Ben Stiller/Robert De Niro-starring December comedy came in under budget, and thus director Jay Roach & writer John Hamburg were able to convince Hoffman to come in for a role which is, according to an unnamed insider, "not dissimilar to what we were pitching him in the beginning."
Money was reported to be one of the reasons Hoffman wasn't returning, but the same insider says that coming in under budget was a big help in securing him. "It's costing what we were going to pay him in the first place." Hoffman will be on-hand to shoot a number of pickup scenes next month with Barbra Streisand and Ben Stiller. It is also confirmed that he'll factor into the film's climactic final scene, featuring the entire main cast.
