Michael Ian Black may not work for the U.S. government, but if he did, he knows what he would want to name the next hurricane that shows up, and he thinks that Hurricane Earl is far too tame of a title. Marlon Wayans had disasters on his mind, too, and sent some sleepless Twitter love out to Pakistan and the miners trapped in Chile.
In photo tweets, horror ruled today. Eli Roth shared a "Last Exorcism" party picture, and Michael McKean offered up a make-up shot that's not for the faint of heart. Have a look down below where you'll see which "Eclipse" actor scored a ticket to the U.S. Open, what Dane Cook thinks about "Dancing with the Stars" and how Jon Favreau spends his lunch breaks.
I'm @brianwarmoth, and this is Twitter-Wood for August 31, 2010. Read more...

MTV's Fall Preview week of exclusives continues today with a look at the hottest upcoming movies of the next four months. We know what you should see and why you should see it, and we've got it all right here. Keep it locked to MTV News and MTV Movies Blog for continued updates throughout the week!
What It's Called: "Faster"
What It's About: Two brothers are in on a heist gone wrong: one is killed, the other ends up in jail. Years later, the surviving bro is released back into the world with nothing but vengeance on his mind. Standing in his way are a cop and a hitman.
Who's In It: Dwayne Johnson, Carla Gugino, Jennifer Carpenter, Maggie Grace, Moon Bloodgood, Billy Bob Thornton and Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje. Directed by "Notorious" helmer George Tillman Jr.
Why You Should Care: C'mon folks, I don't need to spell this one out. It's Dwayne Johnson -- wrestling's The Rock -- kicking ass and probably not taking names. If you're not a fan of Johnson then you have no soul. No action hero is more lovable.

The premiere home video release this week is, without question, the Blu-ray for Sam Raimi's cult classic, "Evil Dead." To put it simply: the movie has never looked better in its shiny, new high-def ensemble. It can be viewed with one of two aspect ratios-- a widescreen 1.85:1 or a fullscreen 1.33:1. Most will automatically opt for the widescreen view, but it's worth noting that the 1.33:1 is the film's original format, as is noted in the all-new audio commentary (more on that in a moment). The fullscreen option looks slightly better overall, but the difference isn't a huge one-- viewer's preference can reign here, and be equally pleased in either case.
Then there's the new commentary. Raimi, star (and living legend) Bruce Campbell and producer Robert Tapert gather for an informative chat about the making of the film. They don't break it down scene by scene, but rather discuss the entire, harrowing four-year process of getting "Evil Dead" made, beginning to end. It nearly killed a few people, quite literally. Especially during the actual shoot, which went down at a backwoods cabin in Tennessee. With no town close by and lots of expensive equipment lying around, one member of the crew had to stay there each night to protect everything. Then there's the cabin, which has a history all its own. They don't get into in during the commentary, so I asked Campbell about it when I spoke to him recently... Read more...

What It's Called: "Buried"
What It's About: Paul Conroy is an American non-combatant, a civilian contractor working in Iraq as a truck driver. He ends up being kidnapped and buried somewhere in the desert in a box.
Who's In It: Ryan Reynolds. That's it. There are other voices that you hear, but the only living, breathing human that you see in the film is Reynolds.
Why You Should Care: It's 94 minutes in a box with one of the most talented actors on the planet. Not enough? There are shades of Hitchcock all over this movie. Don't let the closed setting of a plywood box freak you out. The story constantly keeps you guessing and Reynolds really does outstanding work in selling his dire situation. Still want more? How about I leave it to director Rodrigo Cortes to sell you?

One of the best examples of television in the past year was "The Pacific," which was suitably honored at the 2010 Emmy Awards ceremony a few nights ago. The miniseries, created, written and co-produced by Bruce McKenna, was actually a spiritual successor to HBO's equally excellent Europe-based World War II miniseries "Band of Brothers." Between the two miniseries', it would seem that most of the war has been covered by McKenna and his fellow producers Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg.
It turns out, that's not the case.
For his next trick, McKenna plans to return to the same territory just covered in his Emmy-winning miniseries, only this time with a tighter focus and a big screen, 3D presentation. Next up is a feature-length tale set during World War II's Battle of Midway, Variety reports. Akiva Goldsman will produce at his Weed Road Pictures. The naval showdown, which occurred in 1942, was an important U.S. victory over the Japanese six months after the surprise attack on Pearl Harbor.
No matter what, I think this McKenna flick will be better than the movie "Pearl Harbor." No word on whether or not "Pacific" producers Spielberg and Hanks will be signing up for this tour of duty.

If it feels like you've been waiting since forever for "Machete" to hit theaters, well, you're a little bit off the mark, but not too far. Since the arrival of its mock trailer in 2007's "Grindhouse," fans have been hootin' and hollerin' for an extended exploration of the brutal Machete, the culmination of the glorious Danny Trejo's esteemed career playing ruthless badass after ruthless badass.
While Trejo is the major draw for "Machete," he's not the only one working hard on this crowd-pleasing ensemble — and no, we're not even talking about Jessica Alba, Michelle Rodriguez, Robert De Niro and their other high profile co-stars. After the jump, check out some of "Machete's" unsung heroes that you may not know or may have forgotten all together! Read more...

What's It Called: "Saw 3D"
What It's About: Jigsaw is back! Well... sort of. His legacy remains intact, and someone's out to keep it alive. All while his (admittedly few) survivors gather, looking for support from a self-help guru. Of course, knowing "Saw," nothing will turn out as it first seems.
Who's In It: Tobin Bell , Cary Elwes, Costas Mandylor, Betsy Russell, Sean Patrick Flanery, Bobby Dagen and Gina Holden. From the same writer/director team behind "Saw VI": Kevin Greutert helming, Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton writing.
Why You Should Care: This is supposedly the last "Saw" movie ever! Or at least until someone decides to do a Jigsaw origin story, which could be pretty cool. Also, Linkin Park singer Chester Bennington (pictured above) makes a cameo as "Unannounced victim." Sweet.

It's been awhile since I had an opportunity to rave about "Ghostbusters 3." As a fan of the series, I'm willing to overlook a lot of things. But after I saw "Year One," which the sequel's writers Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky penned, I had to back away a little bit. Hate to say it, but that's really not a very good movie.
There's also been precious little news about "Ghostbusters 3." Until now. An insider has been talking, and apparently the original foursome -- including noted holdout Bill Murray -- are on board, according to Bloody Disgusting. It seems even Rick Moranis is considering emerging from retirement for another outing with his old pals. Best of all though... there's some plot info. Careful though, it's a bit on the spoiler-y side. Continue at your own risk. Read more...

What's It Called: "The Tourist"
What It's About: An American named Frank heads to Italy after his heart is broken. There he meets Elise, a sexy foreigner with a dark history which she can't seem to shake. Frank pursues Elise, not realizing until it's too late that he's just one player in a much more elaborate plot.
Who's In It: Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp star; they're joined by Paul Bettany, Rufus Sewell and Timothy Dalton. "The Lives of Others" director Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck directs.
Why You Should Care: Donnersmarck hasn't directed a film since 2006's "The Lives of Others," which won a much-deserved Oscar (among other awards). Jolie and Depp need very little introduction, and getting the chance to see how their chemistry sizzles in their first starring roles together should be all the prodding you need to buy a ticket.

"Clash of the Titans" wasn't a critical darling when it hit theaters earlier this year; while it was seen as a loving tribute to the original film, issues were raised with the script and the comparative dearth of action. The film was a box office success nonetheless, with more than $491 million grossed to date. In other words... a sequel was inevitable.
That sequel continues to come together. Writers had already been confirmed: Greg Berlanti ("Green Lantern"), David Leslie Johnson ("Red Riding Hood") and newcomer Dan Mazeau developed a treatment together, with Mazeau and Johnson now tackling a script. Today brings the news that "Battle: Los Angeles" director Jonathan Liebesman will helm the film for Warner Bros. and Legendary, The Hollywood Reporter reveals. Stars Sam Worthington and Gemma Arterton are expected to reprise their roles.
