UPDATE: We've been asked to pull the SDCC clip, as it was not officially shared. I've been told though to expect some cool happenings for "Pirates 4" in the socialsphere in the coming weeks and months, so definitely stay tuned.

Johnny Depp is busy shooting "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides" right now, so he wasn't able to hit up San Diego Comic-Con last week. Not as you'd expect him to anyway.

Instead of a proper panel appearance Depp instead recorded a pre-taped message, in 3-D no less, for the crowd gathered at Disney's SDCC panel. There's no footage to see from the movie, but Depp-as-Sparrow is featured hanging out in a lush tropical setting with a mostly full bottle of rum. He proceeds to prepare us all for what to expect from "On Stranger Tides," which hits theaters on May 20, 2011. Zombies and mermaids, apparently. What about zombie mermaids though? I can dream, right? I've embedded the Depp/Sparrow SDCC appearance after the jump, for those who weren't in San Diego to catch it firsthand.

San Diego Comic-Con ended yesterday, thus ending the tidal wave of news that entertainment reporters all over will now spend the next week (or more) sorting through. Other than an isolated violent outburst, all reports point to a strong show overall. The Avengers assembled, the world of "Tron Legacy" was seen in greater detail and new looks at "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" delighted the masses.

We've got a relatively quiet day here in the MTV Newsroom while the Movies team makes their way back from San Diego to New York. With hours of tape captured from the event also enroute with them, expect a lot of recap today. I figured we'd start of with a couple of fun looks at SDCC, compliments of "The State" vet David Wain, who is being held at blasterpoint by a pair of Imperial Stormtroopers, and "Super" writer/director James Gunn, who really enjoyed Disney's "Tron Legacy" party. Stay tuned for more from SDCC throughout the day. Read More...

The last we heard on the "Jay and Seth Vs. The Apocalypse" front was back in April from Jay Baruchel, when he said that he and Seth Rogen were too busy at the moment to focus on bringing "Jay and Seth" to the big screen. Fortunately, a lot can happen in three months, and when MTV caught up with Rogen at "The Green Hornet" Comic-Con party, he was a bit more forthcoming about the project.

"Me and Evan [Goldberg] are writing it right now, actually, and it's come along way and it will probably be one of the next movies that we make, I would imagine," Rogen said.

As we've learned from "Arrested Development," there's a big difference between writing a movie and having written a movie, but Rogen elaborated that he and Goldberg are actually almost done with the writing process. Read More...

Vanessa Hudgens thinks "Sucker Punch" would be "badass" in 3-D, and director Zack Snyder may agree with her, but he's now adamant that a 3-D release for the film just isn't going to happen.

"It's not going to be in 3-D," Snyder told MTV News. "I wanted it to be in 3-D, and we talked a lot about it, and then we looked at a lot of tests. We looked at a lot of potential vendors that could turn the movie into 3-D, and in the end I just felt like it wasn't conceived in 3-D like "Guardians" — because I have made a movie, "Legend of the Guardians," which is conceived in 3-D, and it's cool in 3-D."

Snyder would rather not do 3-D at all than covert an entirely 2-D film to the format, though he might go back and do things differently from the beginning if he had the chance. Read More...

Vampires have taken the back seat to superheroes this Comic-Con, but their presence is still causing quite a stir. The "True Blood" panel last night had fans going crazy over footage shown and cast appearances, and today "Let Me In" -- based on the acclaimed Swedish film "Let the Right One In" -- is taking over Hall H and we've got the brand new trailer. The film follows a young boy who meets a young girl who happens to be a full-fledged vamp.

No need to worry about missing the panel if you are not in San Diego, though, because MTV is proud to have exclusively debuted the full length trailer during our livestream earlier today. Fans who were part of the chat room during the show were enthusiastic about the footage shown, and said they thought fans should definitely check out the original pic as well.

"Let Me In" hits theaters on October 1, 2010, and stars Chloe Moretz, Kodi Smit-McPhee and Richard Jenkins.

What did you think of the trailer? Are you looking forward to seeing this film?

The writers for "Star Trek 2" claim to be making "significant progress," but that doesn't mean the film is going to be ready to start filming in January 2011, according to Zachary Quinto. That said, Quinto has faith in the sequel's production team and trusts that whoever ends up directing will be true to what J.J. Abrams started.

"It's been such an interesting and now complete experience just with the first one," Quinto told MTV News. "I can't wait to go back. We have a while until we're going to do another one. It probably won't be until next year at this time. I know there are sort of erroneous reports that we're going back in January — not true, as far as I know."

The actor name dropped the men in charge of the project, who believes will ultimately make the right choices. Read More...

Kristen Stewart said she would be up to the task of playing Marylou in "On the Road" after she gets done with a four-week "beatnik boot camp," and her co-star Garrett Hedlund, who's signed on to play Dean Moriarty, believes that she has what it takes.

"She's got it all there," Hedlund told MTV News. "She's where she needs to be and further, and also Sam Riley who's playing our Jack Kerouac [named Sal Paradise in the story], is incredibly devoted and a hard worker and also a fantastic actor, so the family we're surrounded by is wonderful and unbelievable."

Hedlund has a lot on his own plate right now as he promotes "Tron: Legacy" and gets read for its release in December. He compared his director and fellow cast members there to the group he's working with for "On the Road," though, and he feels lucky be on board for both movies. Read More...

Daniel Radcliffe in 'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows'The Warner Bros. panel didn't quite reach "Twilight"-level insanity with its triple punch of "Green Lantern," "Sucker Punch" and "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" panels, but it certainly got close. Our coverage of the panel is on its way from the always-wonderful Rick Marshall, but first let's talk about the "Deathly Hallows" footage shown.

Tom Felton was the only cast member who came to present the footage, and he said that even he hadn't seen the footage yet. "These last two films literally everyone has put absolutely everything into it," he said. "These last two films have really been what we're working up to."

That effort was really evident in the footage shown. The first part of it was similar to the full trailer that was released, using a lot of the footage from that in addition to some new stuff. There is a quick flash of the mirror slab that Harry thinks he sees Dumbledore in, as well as Voldemort and the Death Eaters in the woods. The entire sequence is narrated by Voldemort telling Harry to give himself up to save his friends at Hogwarts, which occurs at the end of the film. Read More...

Olivia Wilde has spoken before about what she did and did not want to do with her character Quorra in "Tron: Legacy." While giving MTV News a look at the film's arcade during San Diego Comic-Con this week, she revealed a few more details about what she wanted to bring to the part and how director Joseph Kosinski affected the way she and her co-stars saw their on-screen world.

"People always say, 'Oh it was all CG. Were you just acting on a green screen the whole time?' Our director is an architect, so we had sets that were so beautiful that there would be an audible gasp when people walked on the sets," Wilde explained.

"Everything about this world was unfamiliar to us," she said. "It was totally non-organic, and so you kind of had to get used to what these surfaces would be like. Never seeing the sun — and we actually got to experience that, because I don't think any of us saw the sun for five months." Read More...
