There's been a lot of speculation about exactly what's going on with "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo." Stieg Larsson original book has already been adapted as a Swedish language feature. An English-language remake has been brewing for some time, but it's only recently begun to build up momentum. David Fincher is confirmed as the director. Sony announced a release date for the first film (it's a trilogy), December 21, 2011. More news was bound to emerge before long.

And now it has. Deadline reports that James Bond franchise star Daniel Craig has signed on as the male lead, journalist Mikael Blomkvist, not just for "Dragon Tattoo" but also for sequels "The Girl Who Played With Fire" and "The Girl Who Kicked The Hornets' Nest." Still to be cast is female lead, Lisbeth Salander, the "girl" named in the title. Several names have already been mentioned in connection with the role and it is largely believed that a relative unknown will ultimately get the part. How do you feel about the Craig casting?

Last week we debuted a San Diego Comic-Con teaser poster for "Let Me In" to go along with some words from director Matt Reeves about his coming adaptation of the Swedish vampire tale, "Let the Right One In." Speaking several days before the planned SDCC panel for the film, Reeves was very excited to finally share a little bit of his vision of the story.

The announcement of a "Let the Right One In" remake was initially met by resistance from some fans who didn't feel that a 2008 film, one largely considered to be an exceptional work, was really worth revisiting. Reeves' greatest hope for the SDCC panel was to show attendees exactly why and how his own take on the story stands apart. By most accounts, he accomplished just that. And now that you've seen some of his vision, I figured I'd share some more from the director on his remake in comparison to the 2008 original. Read More...

Vanessa Hudgens, Emily Browning, Jamie Chung and Jena Malone are some of the actresses that seem least likely to be the next big action stars, but based on how well-received the panel and footage from their upcoming "Sucker Punch" was on Saturday at Comic-Con, it seems like that is exactly what they are set up to be.

When the four starlets of Zack Snyder's latest project came to chat with MTV at SDCC, they said that they didn't take the violence of the film lightly.

"We probably at the beginning all felt like, oh my God, we don't look like fighters," Browning said. "We're kind of all little girls. We trained our asses off -- we worked really hard." Read More...

San Diego Comic-Con is filled with attractions. Panels. Footage and trailer reveals. Celebrity signings. The occasional screening. Everything to make a fanperson smile wide. You know what else there's a lot of? Stuff.

Stuff is everywhere at SDCC. There are statues, toys, collectibles, props, dioramas... tons and tons of stuff. The below picture is my favorite though. The Recognizers of the original "Tron" are cool-looking creations, arch-shaped air vehicles that float around looking menacing. It remains to be seen if they serve the same purpose in "Tron Legacy," but the sight of the real-life Recognizer pictured below must have creeped out some of the more hardcore fans of the franchise. It's going to be a big year for Jeff Bridges, not only because he is starring "Tron Legacy," which is sure to be one of the biggest films of the year, but also because he is revisiting another of the films that made him a star. The first, of course, is "Tron," which he came to promote the sequel to at the MTV/MySpace livestream last Friday. The other reunites him with the brothers Coen, Joel and Ethan, who directed him in cult classic "The Big Lebowski."

"True Grit," which is in post-production and slated for a December release, stars Bridges opposite Matt Damon, Josh Brolin and Barry Pepper. "I hope it's going to be a great Western," Bridges said of the film. Read More...

I read "I Am Number Four" a few weeks ago and it was a delightful experience. There's been a rush on to find the next "Harry Potter," the next "Twilight," the next big ongoing adult-and-child-friendly literary series, and here we have one of the strongest contenders I've seen. "Number Four" shifts away from the fantasy seen in "Potter" and "Twilight," looking instead to another genre which is particularly well-suited to epic storytelling: science fiction. The tale is credited to author Pittacus Lore, an alien life form who, along with a small group of others, escaped the destruction of his homeworld by a malevolent race, the Mogadorians.

Like "Harry Potter," "I Am Number Four" succeeds by slowly introducing you to its unique universe, learning about the lost planet of Lorien and its culture through the eyes of a young man who escaped the destruction. The first book (oh yeah, it's a series) ends with some key questions answered, but many new ones raised. It hits stores on August 3, with an adaptation starring Alex Pettyfer arriving in theaters early next year. Read More...

There should be a law about Nicolas Cage movies. I don't want to see limits placed on them, mind you. Rather, I want to see a law on the books which dictates that there need to be a certain number of films a year starring the multi-talented actor. Cage has proven himself time and again as a guy who can handle both serious acting and over-the-top scenery consumption. "Drive Angry 3-D" looks like the latter in the best way possible.

How do I know this? The footage that premiered at San Diego Comic-Con last week is now safely online for everyone's enjoyment. There's gunfire, crashing cars and a very, very pissed off Cage. Not that he isn't justified. "Drive Angry" is a revenge flick in which the "Sorcerer's Apprentice" star is out hunting for the folks responsible for the death of his daughter. Do you really need to know any more than that? Hit the jump for the trailer. Read More...

Since Guillermo del Toro stepped away from directing the big screen adaptation of "The Hobbit" -- a project he spent two years writing, designing and preparing -- the big speculation is that when (or really if) the film gets made, it will be directed by "Lord of the Rings" helmer Peter Jackson. When MTV caught up with del Toro at Comic-Con on Friday, he said he is one of many who supports Jackson returning to Middle Earth.

"Me, like any other geek, I really want to see Peter do the movie," he said. He added that he thought a portion of the work he has done preparing for "The Hobbit" will transition to whoever works on the film next. Read More...

San Diego Comic-Con was home to some industry-shaking news in the past week, and MTV was there in a big way to cover it all. In addition to our usual rundown of panel reports, screening/footage impressions, exclusive debuts and celebrity interviews, we also worked with MySpace to bring a little bit of the live event into your homes by way of three livestream shows hosted by MTV Movies managing editor Josh Horowitz.

There was a lot to cover, so much that we've still got hours of tape to sort through once the San Diego team is safely back home in New York. So today I'm going to take a look at our show highlights and present them all to you here in one easy-to-follow blog post. Which panels went nuclear? Where were the surprise guests? How many celebrity guests put in an appearance, and where? Find out all of that and more after the jump as we round up MTV's 2010 San Diego Comic-Con coverage! Read More...
