Between zero gravity fight scenes, dreams within dreams within dreams and other such visually mind-boggling masterpieces on display, it's safe to say that Christopher Nolan's "Inception" found itself a strong fan base. Already a critical success and well on its way to becoming a commercial one as well, the now-now-now thirst of moviegoers everywhere has us asking the obvious — when is the "Inception" sequel coming along?
Clearly, Nolan's dance card is rather full at the moment with a planned return trip to Gotham City in "Batman 3," not to mention his producer role in shepherding "Superman" back to the big screen. But if Nolan manages to find some free time within the next, oh, ten years or so, here are some ideas for where he could take the "Inception" franchise in a possible sequel.
If you haven't seen "Inception" yet, steer clear — major spoilers lurk ahead! Read more...

Hammer Films is an old school horror label. Have you ever seen those old photos of "Star Wars" prequels and "The Lord of the Rings" star Christopher Lee as Dracula? That's Hammer. They're still very much active too, producing the upcoming Matt Reeves-directed "Let the Right One In" remake, titled "Let Me In." And now they've lined up a starring role for The Boy Who Lived himself, "Harry Potter" star Daniel Radcliffe.
The bespectacled boy wizard will lead the cast of "The Woman in Black," an adaptation of author Susan Hill's 1983 novel. The thriller, which has previously been adapted for both the stage and television, follows Arthur Kipps (Radcliffe), a young lawyer who is dispatched to sort out a recently deceased client's affairs. He works from her creaky, old house, which apparently hides some dark secrets (don't they all?). Also, the nearby town "is held hostage by the ghost of a scorned woman set on vengeance," say the press release.
I have to say, I'm dead curious to see Radcliffe performing outside of the "Harry Potter" universe, especially in something that represents as dramatic a departure as a Hammer Films release. Production is set to start this fall.

As I mentioned last week, I somehow managed to avoid "Inception" trailers, plot synopses and other sources of information prior to seeing the latest Christopher Nolan movie. While I knew who the principal players were — Leonardo DiCaprio, Ken Watanabe, Ellen Page and the rest of the gang — and I knew the general idea of the crime taking place in "your mind," I knew very little else.
In other words, I went in blind.
In this day and age, it's rare to walk into a high profile movie viewing without knowing at least some of the major set pieces ahead of time. Somehow, I made like Neo and managed to dodge all "Inception" spoiler bullets prior to my initial viewing — and frankly, while I was appreciative of seeing "Inception" completely cold, I don't think it was necessary, certainly not for the reasons I was expecting.
Beware of spoilers after the jump! Read more...

This is rapidly becoming a weekly thing. A new cast member is announced for "Rise of the Apes," upcoming prequel to "Planet of the Apes." The already star-studded ensemble grows one larger and I go on and on about how cool this movie is going to be.
Well it's a new week and there's some new casting to report. "Harry Potter" star Tom Felton is officially in the mix. He'll play the son of Brian Cox's character, just confirmed last week as the film's villainous primate preserve overseer. I wonder if Felton's "Apes" character will follow in the bad seed footsteps of Draco Malfoy, or if he'll see what dear, old dad Cox is doing and fight for the rights of the primates. Given the way things go in the distant future for man and ape, it won't matter much: the damn, dirty apes will rise and there's nothing anyone can do about it.

"Guns, Girls & Gambling" is an upcoming movie that we've been hearing a bit about in recent weeks. And why not? It stars Gary Oldman, Christian Slater and Dane Cook. "True Blood" shapeshifter Sam Trammell was also confirmed for a role last week. The story is all about an American Indian artifact that is stolen during a poker game. Those are all some solid ingredients right there.
The movie was announced in mid-June and it's already shooting in Utah, as today's slightly bloody Daily TwitPic illustrates. Cook tweeted last week from the set. And you know what? It looks freakin' hot in that desert. There's no Oldman in the pic, either because he's too cool to pose or the pics of him are too cool to post. I can't decode Cook's tweet: "Utah. Slater & I after gunsablazin' in the desert. #GunsGirls&Gambling movie. Oldman pix 2 cool" Read more...

Ever since the show was unceremoniously canceled, rumors have circulated that "Arrested Development" would be resurrected via a big-screen adaptation. GQ Magazine spoke to Will Arnett and creator Mitch Hurwitz about their upcoming new series "Running Wilde," and they both went on the record with the official confirmation that you've all been waiting for: the "Arrested Development" movie is a "go."
"Yes, it's happening," Arnett told the magazine, adding that there is an unfinished script and that all the principle cast members have signed on. Many of the series stars have said as much at one point or another. The strongest confirmation came from series creator Hurwitz himself. Read more...

Proof that Dane Cook and Christian Slater are indeed starring in "Guns, Girls & Gambling" found its way to Twitter-Wood today. Cook posted a pic into the mix, which also included some "Harold and Kumar" updates from Jon Hurwitz, James Gunn discussing Ellen Page's character in "Super" and a suggestion for Mel Gibson from Aziz Ansari.
Elsewhere, while the world was watching to see if BP's oil leak solution was working, Horatio Sanz announced another less family-friendly problem that's emerged. You can find out what that was after the jump alongside Wes Craven's warning to unwanted photographers.
I'm @brianwarmoth, and everything below constitutes Twitter-Wood for July 16, 2010. Read more...
