We're all looking forward to "Moneyball" here at MTV News. Especially now that it really is happening. How do we know, you ask? Pictorial evidence! Check out the latest edition to MTV's ever-growing Spotted! gallery, in which we see Brad Pitt on the set. A cookie for the reader who is able to name the man standing with him there.*

* I do not have an ACTUAL cookie to offer you.

As I mentioned earlier, MTV News is going to be everywhere at Comic-Con. They're all in transit right now though, which means the constant feed of information that we'll be getting from San Diego all this week and through the weekend hasn't officially started yet. There's plenty to be excited about though.
For starters, we've got those three, hour-long livestreams that I've been yapping about. They'll consist of live interviews from San Diego with the cast and crew from a diverse range of upcoming movies featured at the 'Con, including "Machete," "Tron Legacy," "Scott Pilgrim Vs. the World," "Red" and "The Green Hornet." Remember: we still want your questions! Those live shows are happening: tomorrow at 3pm ET/12pm PT, Friday at 3pm ET/12pm PT and Saturday at 6pm ET/3pm PT. Stay tuned to MTV to find out where you can check those out!
Of course, it wouldn't be San Diego Comic-Cons without panels and presentations. While those of us not in attendance won't necessarily get to see the juicy video reveals, we'll certainly be clicking to read all about them. I'm here now to run through the five big ones that you MTV Movies Blog readers in particular should be looking forward to... Read more...

Whatever your faith might be, you're probably familiar with the story of Jesus Christ's birth. If not, go ahead and catch yourself up. It's okay, I'll wait.
Good? Good. So there's this movie "Sweet Baby Jesus." The story is set in the '70s, in the town of Bethlehem... Maryland. One day, a new couple arrives in town: Joseph and his pregnant hippie wife Mary. Naturally, the town comes to think that the Second Coming of the savior is imminent. Bette Midler and Sean Brosnan (son of Pierce) are already set for the cast, but today Deadline brings word that Sharon Stone is set for the role of Mary while Adrien Brody, who recently starred in "Predators," is in "final negotiations" for Joseph. I hadn't heard much about this one before, but shooting starts in September with Peter Hewitt directing. He debuted in 1991 with "Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey." SOLD!

I'll make you a bet. Pick up Stieg Larsson's "Girl with the Dragon Tattoo," make it about 50 pages in, and I promise you'll never want to put the book down again. You'll be pissed when it's over, in fact, even if you're thankful there are two more installments of the Swedish crime thrillers already available at your local bookstore.
"Dragon Tattoo" introduces us to two unforgettable characters: Mikael Blomkvist, a disgraced journalist hired to solve a 40-year-old missing person case, and Lisbeth Salander, a dark and damaged hacker who joins the investigation. Sony is deep into preproduction on an American film adaptation set to open on December 21st, 2011 — following the successful Swedish version — and seems to have located its preferred Blomkvist in Daniel Craig (no decision has been made, and there are reportedly potential scheduling conflicts for the actor involving the next James Bond flick and Jon Favreau's "Cowboys and Aliens").
A wider net is being cast for Salander, a role that has become one of the most sought after in Hollywood. Actresses such as Carey Mulligan, Ellen Page, Mia Wasikowska and Kristen Stewart have been mentioned as possible candidates. But now Thompson on Hollywood is reporting Sony and director David Fincher have focused on five mostly unknown names: Rooney Mara ("The Social Network"), Emily Browning ("Sucker Punch"), new Australian faces Sophie Lowe and Sarah Snook (interview), and an unnamed Frenchwoman.
Who would make the best Lisbeth Salander? After the jump, let's hop on the casting couch and evaluate the candidates. Read more...

The movies-loving world was stunned a few months when "Transformers" star Megan Fox was suddenly replaced by Victoria's Secret model Rosie Huntington-Whiteley. What didn't accompany the news was information about which role the newcomer would be taking on, leading many to speculate that she'd simply be taking over Fox's Mikaela Banes character. Now it seems that that may not be the case however.
"Transformers" fan site TFW2005.com has a set visit report up from Nelson, who serves as the site admin at Shoot For the Edit, Michael Bay's website. In the report he identifies Huntington-Whiteley's character as Carly, with no further explanation. As JoBlo points out, Carly was also the name of the character who eventually becomes Sam Witwicky's (Shia LaBeouf) wife on the animated series. We already know from previous interviews that bringing back the franchise's "core mythology" is very important to Bay and his team. Could this be the first sign of that plan in action?

Just like all of us here at Movies Blog, the "Anchorman" cast is bummed out by the news
that Paramount passed on making a sequel. When MTV caught up with Christina Applegate recently, Ms. Veronica Corningstone herself, she revealed her continued sadness at not having the opportunity to revisit her beloved character.
"We're all really sad that... at the moment, it looks like we're not doing it," Applegate said at VH1's Do Something Awards Monday. Read more...

MTV News has long prided itself on probing, intimate conversations. But nothing, absolutely NOTHING can compare to our new series, "Up Close." On "Up Close" we go deep, deeper than anyone ever really should, with the celebrities you love. Recently the show featured a no holds barred chat with "Cyrus" star John C. Reilly that devolved into something that would chill Crispin Glover. But we've upped the ante this time with our latest episode, featuring "Dinner for Schmucks" star Steve Carell. No doubt you've seen Steve interviewed countless times... but never like this.
Warning: the following video show involves toiletries and disgusting snack products. This WILL haunt your dreams. ENJOY!

It's safe to say that MTV News is hitting San Diego Comic-Con this year in a BIG way. We've got panel coverage. Interviews. Exclusives. Three livestreams, each an hour long. We'll be at the parties, on the show floor, checking out toys and comics and clips and trailers. Best of all, we want to get you, the readers, involved.
In short, send us your questions. We're talking to a ton of folks. Just about every one of the big ticket players in attendance. Our reporters on the scene will have plenty to talk about, but with so many interviews to keep straight, you're bound to think of stuff that we've forgotten. So if you've got questions for anyone listed in last night's press release, tweet them @joshuahorowitz (your best bet) or, if you don't have the Twitter, send them to us at tips@mtvmoviesblog.com. And of course, stay tuned to MTV Movies Blog, MTV Splash Page and Hollywood Crush all this week and through the weekend for the latest breaking news coming out of San Diego.

It's official: Jon Hamm is joining an illustrious group that includes Michael Jackson, Dustin Hoffman, Mark Hamill, Phish, John Waters, Johnny Cash, Leonard Nimoy, Cypress Hill, Peter Frampton, Smashing Pumpkins and countless others. An odd assortment like that can only mean one thing: "The Simpsons"! A fact you probably knew already if you read the headline.
EW.com confirms that the "Mad Men" star will lend his voice to the role of an FBI supervisor, who serves as Homer Simpson's handler when the portly patriarch becomes a jailhouse informant. Yes, there was already an episode in which Homer pulled that stunt. The upcoming episode, titled "Donnie Fatso" (a play on the Johnny Depp/Al Pacino-starring film "Donnie Brasco"), will see him infiltrating the inner circle of Springfield's most Made man, Fat Tony (Joe Mantegna). Executive producer Al Jean confirmed that the episode will feature no "Mad Men" references.

I'm bucking this system for this morning's Daily TwitPic. Sure, I could bring you yesterday's Twitter-Wood selection. But wouldn't you rather get an early glimpse of "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides"?
If you don't want it, tough. That's what I've got for you. Mega producer Jerry Bruckheimer took to Twitter yesterday with a new pic from the "On Stranger Tides" set. It's a pretty cool image too, Jack Sparrow's (Johnny Depp) silhouette, sword extended, in front of choppy ocean waters. I'm incredibly curious about this sequel; the first "Pirates" flick was strong, but the two follow-ups definitely faltered a bit. The cast that's gathered around this fourth one is enough to keep me interested though. We'll find out how it all comes together next summer. For now, enjoy the pic. Read more...
