Call him a nitwit or a pinhead, a dumbass or a tool, an imbecile, a dork or a moron. Or call him a schmuck, as the title of his new comedy does. Any way you dis Steve Carell, it's gonna sting.
"I try to be cool," deadpanned "Dinner for Schmucks" star Steve Carell. "I try to exude a real steady charm and a slyness, and for people to take away that I'm a fool and an idiot, it's hurtful."
Wounded pride aside, Carell did pick up some insight during the shoot for "Schmucks," a movie in which Paul Rudd and his co-workers hold a dinner party for the biggest dum-dums they can find (one of them, of course, being a doltish Carell). And when MTV News visited the set earlier this year, Carell was kind enough to lay out the four warning signs that you yourself might be a schmuck.
1. If people don't want to be around you.
2. If you don't have many friends.
3. If you consider the friends you have to be extremely loser-ish.
4. If your friends look and act exactly like you.
