Here's a pretty perfect bit of casting. Russell Brand is going to star in "Hawkwood," an action/comedy about real-life 14th century mercenary John Hawkwood. You know how Brand is frequently compared with or considered to be a real-life version of Johnny Depp's Jack Sparrow character from the "Pirates of the Caribbean" movies? Well "Hawkwood" will give him a chance to try that role on for real.
The title character is a swashbuckling rogue, which is sort of how I envision Brand in his day-to-day life. Maybe without the sword. Deadline reports that he'll produce "Hawkwood" with Peter Chernin, Dylan Clark and Nicky Weinstock. No director has been announced, but Jared Stern will write the script. Stern recently did some work on the script for the "Arthur" remake, featuring Brand in the starring role made famous Dudley Moore. With no script written and many of the players still to be maneuvered into place, don't expect to see "Hawkwood" anytime soon. Before long though, we'll all get to see Brand do his best Jack Sparrow impression. And really, there's nothing that sucks about that.
