Pee-Wee Herman said that he wanted to make a movie based on "Pee-Wee's Playhouse", but now it sounds like his real-world counterpart Paul Reubens is cooking up something secret with Judd Apatow. Paul Rust of "Inglourious Basterds" and "I Love You, Beth Cooper" is reportedly co-writing the screenplay with Reubens, and Apatow will produce. The details are still under wraps, but if Pee-Wee decides to break out his famous Playhouse for the flick, it could be interesting to see a few of Apatow's friends show up to re-envision its characters.
We're here to save everyone from the trouble of having to cast those colorful Playhouse residents...
RUSSELL BRAND AS JAMBI
Few actors in Hollywood come with the gypsy look already taken care of, and who wouldn't want to watch Brand pull off a wish-granting "Mecca lecca hi, mecca hiney ho"?
AZIZ ANSARI AS CONKY
If Ansari took over the role of Pee-Wee's word of the day-spouting robot, you could bet that audiences would be on the edge of their seats every time something began to print.
STEVE CARELL AS CAPTAIN CARL
Phil Hartman's character from the original show would have to go to someone worthy on the big screen. Former 40-year old virgin Steve Carrell can exert both the machismo and the adventurous spirit necessary to do Carl justice.
LESLIE MANN AS CHAIRRY
Chairry really needs to be handled by an experienced puppeteer, but if personality and voice are enough, Mann's got the energy and playfulness to be an outstanding chair. I swear, I mean that as a compliment.
SETH ROGEN AS GLOBEY
For some reason, Seth Rogen is the only Apatow actor I can picture pulling off Globey's unique accent. Plus, he'd sound great as a global geography authority.
JANE LYNCH AS REBA THE MAIL WOMAN
Here is an absolutely unassailable casting pick. In fact, all due respect to "Law and Order" legend S. Epatha Merkerson, who originally played this part in the TV show, but Lynch has "Reba for a new generation" written all over her.
