There's something extremely unsettling about hearing stories of spies and espionage set outside of the realm of fiction. In case you haven't heard, eleven men and women have been arrested in the United States as suspected members of a deep cover Russian spy ring with an untold long-term mission in the country. We're not just talking government officials or members of the press — some of these spies were average Joes living right next door to you.

Like I said, pretty unsettling, isn't it? The developing story is reminiscent of a high octane espionage thriller, where the main character slowly realizes that these men and women he's known his entire life are secretly enemies of the state. In fact, this story has played out several times on the big screen. After the jump, check out some of the most stunning spy betrayals in cinema history. Read More...

Phil Lord and Chris Miller got a lot of props for their work on "Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs," a CG animated movie which, by all accounts, is a really good time. Their work was strong enough to land them a plum follow-up: Jonah Hill's contemporary take on the undercover cops-as-high schoolers TV series "21 Jump Street."

Now it looks like they've found something else to work on. An as-yet-untitled movie based on LEGO building blocks toys. Lord and Miller are in talks to write and direct the LEGO-based adventure, which will employ a mix of live action and animation. The only question is how this might impact "Jump Street." Hill only recently told MTV that the hope is for an early 2011 shoot. For more on this story, check out the full article at The Hollywood Reporter's Heat Vision blog.

Big Baby is one of the new characters introduced in "Toy Story 3," a movie which is on track in my own mind to emerge as the best of the summer. As much as I love it, that character is downright creepy. It's one of those realistic-looking infant dolls with the weighted blinking eyes. Except the one in the movie is broken, so its left eye is perpetually half-closed.

That thing haunts my nightmares.

Director Lee Unkrich has been traveling around, doing press for "Toy Story 3." And he's apparently been dragging Big Baby along for the ride. Do you think he gets a separate hotel room for it, so he doesn't have to go to sleep with the nagging fear that he'll wake up to it murdering him?

Anyway, Unkrich has been traveling around with Big Baby and he's been snapping pictures of the little tyke's world tour. The latest stop, documented in today's Daily TwitPic, is France. Was France, since the accompanying tweet read "Au revoir, Paris!" Read More...

Today, we wish John Cusack a Happy Birthday and we attempt to guess where he’s celebrating the big 4-4. Celebs are known to go big for their birthdays, but John’s plan is probably much more difficult to guess than your normal celeb.

Paris, Rome... or maybe Dublin? Those are all great possibilities, but per his recent box office hit, we must also guess what year. Paris 2010 or Paris 1789. Who knows!? Sure, it’s nearly impossible to guess the location (and year) of his birthday celebration, but we can help paint the picture with things we do know.

His cake will, no doubt, have 28 candles less than it should.

Emily Leatherman will not attend - not because she doesn’t want to, but because, well, she’s legally prohibited – unless there’s an empty seat 500 feet from his cake.

And lastly, we know what he will not be hoisting above his head...

Whatever location and century you end up in, we wish you the best John!

I had hoped to cover this last week, but wasn't able to fit it in. "Eclipse" stars Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart gave an interview to EW's Hollywood Insider on Wednesday. In it, Pattinson fired out some critical statements about the culture of online entertainment news reporting. It's best if you just read it in his own words, but here's some general context: Stewart recently compared paparazzi intrusions on celebrity private lives to rape, drawing a fair amount of heat from pop culture observers. Said Pattinson:

"None of those [sexual assault awareness] associations came out and gave a statement [criticizing Kristen] without being called upon by the media first — who were doing it specifically to get hits on their websites. That whole system of Internet journalists, where no one is called to account, is almost entirely about hate. All these people get away with doing it because they have no responsibility to anyone. All they need is to get a salacious headline and people click on it, because it’s easy. And it’s quite good being part of these Twilight films because you have to give so many interviews all the time, you can defend yourself. That’s the only way. All of us stick together, as well. There are so many little nerds behind their computers, on their little blogs."

I've got to admit, the dude makes an eloquent point. I'm not a "Twilight" fan, so the Team Edward/Team Jacob debate really doesn't hold much interest for me. But after reading this... is it okay if I side with Team Robert? Read More...

Kevin Spacey has been confirmed as a murder victim-to-be in Seth Gordon's upcoming comedy "Horrible Bosses." The story follows three friends -- played by Jason Bateman, Charlie Day and Jason Sudiekis -- who, dissatisfied with their jobs, resolve to remove their respective bosses from the picture... permanently. Colin Farrell and Jennifer Aniston are already cast as two of the bosses, and Spacey makes three. Jamie Foxx is also in the movie, as a scam artist. Gordon previously directed the excellent documentary "King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters."

Oddly, this won't be the first time Spacey plays a boss targeted for execution by a beleaguered employee. He played a high-powered movie producer in that movie, and his assistant (played by Frank Whaley) finally breaks under the strain of his ruthless employer, kidnapping and torturing Spacey. I'm going to level with you: "Inception" can't hit theaters soon enough. Chris Nolan is one of the most inventive filmmakers working today and the July 16 release is his first original effort since "Memento" in 2000 ("The Prestige" and "Insomnia" are both adaptations). That said, he's done great work with the Batman character and many are looking forward to seeing how he follows up 2008 hit, "The Dark Knight." In the below video, MTV's Josh Horowitz gets Nolan to set the record straight on where things are at and where they're heading. Head over to MTV Splash Page for more on this story.

I said it last week and I'll say it again: "Knight and Day" is a damn good time at the movies. Some people out there are looking at the $21 million weekend opening as a bad sign. Wrong. "Collateral" opened to $25 million. "Jerry Maguire" to $17 million. "Knight and Day" is going to do just fine and star Tom Cruise won't just work again, he'll open a movie again. One that doesn't have "Mission: Impossible" in the title even.

How about "Top Gun"? The 1986 action-drama was one of the early hot roles for Cruise, and it has long been the subject of sequel talk. MTV's Josh Horowitz asked producer Jerry Bruckheimer what the possibilities might be at the weekend junket for "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" and it sounds as though folks behind the scenes are still talking about it.

"We tried to develop [a sequel] and we couldn't do it-- I was with my partner Don Simpson," Bruckheimer explained. "And then Tom took it over and he tried to develop something and it never quite happened." That's all in the past though. It turns out that "Top Gun" has been the subject of much more recent sequel discussions as well. Read More...
