If you were watching the 2010 MTV Movie Awards, then you surely know who Les Grossman is. If you don't, here's a quick rundown: he's a bald-headed, overweight, hairy-armed, big-shot movie executive with a propensity for cutting down anyone in his path with ruthless insults and cold and calculated business decisions. He's also Tom Cruise.
Originally appearing in 2008's "Tropic Thunder," Cruise reprised the hilarious role of Grossman for this year's Movie Awards in a variety of promotional videos, prerecorded segments and a very memorable dance number. Now, it appears that Cruise is eyeballing Grossman's next big project: his very own film.
"We're working on it," he told E! Online when asked about the possibility of a "Grossman" spinoff. While some might worry that the character is too much to handle for his own two-hour film, I think a Grossman-centric project actually has a ton of potential. Read more...

Have you been having Facebook problems lately? Lindsay Lohan has, judging from her recently tweeted frustrations. She says she's lost her original account and name, all due to some shenanigans pulled by a hacker.
The biggest shenanigan in the Gulf of Mexico is still on tweeters minds elsewhere in Twitter-Wood. Rainn Wilson was inspired by President Barack Obama's "kick ass" comments today, and Stephen Colbert has been pontificating as usual. You can decide which of them knows what he's talking about below alongside Wil Wheaton's kick-ass Tardis cake and a look at Gary Sinise playing guitar at USO show.
It's all been retweeted in Twitter-Wood for June 8, 2010. Read more...

I have no idea what this is. Okay, that's not precisely correct. I do know that it's awesome. But what does it relate to?!
I should explain. A live action short film appeared online yesterday from YouTube user MortalKombatRebirth. Those who are familiar with the video game fighting series "Mortal Kombat" will definitely recognize the characters. Jax (and it's MICHAEL JAI WHITE!!!), Sonya, Baraka, Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Shang Tsung, Reptile, Johnny Cage... not everyone, but a lot.
I guarantee that the tone of the short differs from anything you've ever seen out of the "Mortal Kombat" universe. There's some "Saw" in here for sure, that gory, grainy feel, like you need to take a bath after watching it. It's dead serious and pretty in-your-face with the gore. Also, it's great. I have no idea if it's pegged to a movie or a video game or if it's just a standalone piece of awesome tape -- we've reached out to Warner Bros. for comment -- but I would guess that it is definitely not fan-produced. Check it out after the jump. Read more...

If the best things come in pairs, then the MTV Movie Awards are no exception to the rule. From the very beginning of the show, celebrity presenters and nominees have been entertaining audiences with wacky high jinx, romantic interludes and everything in-between.
We've collected 23 of our favorite couples, but we want to know who YOU think takes the crown as the best duo in Movie Awards history. So click after the jump to vote!

Crack out your salt shakers, because you'll need to take this news with a mighty big grain. New Zealand outlet Stuff is reporting (via AICN) some news on the next "Indiana Jones" movie, including the first hard facts we've heard about what the story might entail and when production is expected to start.
Citing an unnamed source, Stuff reports that the George Lucas/Steven Spielberg-penned script is "almost there," and that the story will take Indiana (Harrison Ford) and his son Mutt (Shia LaBeouf) to the Bermuda Triangle. Even more encouraging -- again, if the source can be trusted -- is the final quote: "Shia LaBeouf has a central role again as Indy's son but this will be a blockbuster made in the old fashioned way rather than the CGI efforts of the last movie." Last week, Relativity Media put out a press release revealing that they're working on a live-action adaptation of "The Brothers Grimm: Snow White," with a script from Melisa Wallack. The release also named Brett Ratner as one of the producers, which is fortunate because MTV's Eric Ditzian ran into him backstage at the MTV Movie Awards on Sunday night. It's still very early of course, but Ratner is definitely excited about what's planned.
"'Snow White'... I'm producing, I'm not directing," he said. "But I'm excited about it. It's an edgier kind of reinvention, but the script is excellent and I'm looking forward to it, I'm just happy to be a part of it." Read more...

You might not know this, but 50 Cent and Val Kilmer are good friends and collaborators. We spoke to them together late last year on the red carpet of the 2009 American Music Awards, and they revealed that they worked on a movie together called "Gun," that 50 wrote himself. "It's about how a weapon goes from manufacturing to its distribution point, to being in a citizen's custody — and how it ends up in the wrong hands," he said. "We watch the actual gun travel through a few different people's hands."
It's actually a pretty clever idea, not unlike the premise of another quirky little indie film, Twenty Bucks" (1993). It seems now that "Gun" is complete or close to that point, as today brings the very first trailer. And I've gotta say, it looks pretty badass. Not something that will shake Hollywood to its core, but with a cast that includes 50, Kilmer and John Larroquette, I can't imagine it being anything less than entertaining. Check out the trailer after the jump. Read more...

I love this new trend on the Internet of taking a bunch of movies and cutting them up into a montage video, exposing through repetition the artifice of filmmaking. Or to put it another, cutting together a bunch of similar scenes from different movies to make you life at how silly it all is. The "no signal on cellphones in horror movies" montage is thoroughly enjoyable, as is the largely "Die Hard"-driven series of "Get out of there!" exclamations. There's a new one though that trumps them all.
Jacob Bricca's "Pure," set to the sounds of Jesus Lizard, is "a meditation on violence and visual tropes at the movies." It is exactly what the description says it is, and very well put together at that. According to his website, Bricca isn't just a director/editor but also a professor, at Wesleyan. "Pure" is freshly out online, but it has already screened at a number of festivals, including the 2009 Berlin International Film Festival.

Last week, director Guillermo del Toro released a 182-word statement explaining why he decided to part ways with "The Hobbit," the long-in-the-works, two-film adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien's seminal work. The development took fans by surprise, and del Toro followed through on his promise to further elucidate his reasons for moving on after two years of work.
Citing reasons as diverse as production delays, troubles at studio MGM and the strains of moving his family to New Zealand, del Toro's 464-word statement strikes a wistful and conflicted tone. Clearly, it pains the director to leave a project about which he continues to be passionate. Read more...

Hot on the heels of Sunday night's "Eclipse" clip premiere at the 2010 MTV Movie Awards, a bundle of new images from the third film in Stephenie Meyer's "Twilight" series have surfaced online. Pick a character, any character... chances are, he or she is highlighted in at least one of the photos. Click the creepy image of Dakota Fanning's Jane below to check out the full gallery. And remember (as if you forgot!), "Eclipse" arrives in theater on June 30!!
